Well until USH gets that damn hotel built, there's really no vacation packages they can hawk unless they coerce the Hilton and the Sheraton to finally start catering to the theme park crowd more than the "talent" for the studio.

As for the loyal fans... well this is really sad to say but I don't think Universal gives a crap. They don't want to be a locals park anymore, and instead want to change the focus on being a destination instead. This is where the bizarre California/Florida paradox comes into play. Both Disney and Universal on the west coast in fact do cater to the local crowd more because they are in a less isolated location. As such they feel forced sometimes to play their hand towards repeat guests in an obligatory way, and this pays off through consistent refurbs and updates. However, they also badly want to be like Florida and woo that vacation crowd, which leads to them pulling moves like this despite the fact that they're too landlocked for space to truly justify. Whereas you have Florida, which is ideally a vacation destination for both properties. Ironically, Florida arguably has the more loyal (although smaller) fanbase, and they get more simply because it's easier to cater to them on the smaller levels, while trumpeting bigger prices which the fans are fine with because they're simply used to it. But at the same time, they also suffer to see the parks being maligned and less well-maintained, and watching their favorite attractions sucked up due to the property wanting to cater to their international, once-in-a-lifetime audience.

In all, it creates a massive headache for both theme park fans and tourists. I think California feels the pains the hardest, because those are actual pains of overcrowding and overpricing. Florida's fans are much whinier about what used to be, and no wonder... it feels like they just have less actual things to be angry about.

I can't imagine the nuclear blast that would sound off from Florida if Universal Orlando got rid of their top tier pass. I've always been jealous of how many ticket options they have.

I'm really not overly concerned about this change. Sure, it doesn't affect me given the current pass I own, but it's evident that these changes are being made for a bigger picture. Universal now has a track record of experiencing brutal growing pains during the production of these projects, but I'm eager to see their refined annual pass system later on.

These are my wishes for a future Premium pass or something similar:

No black out dates, 365 days, free parking, Gate A privileges for Studio Tour, access to Wizarding World without time return pass, and some nice discounts. I'd pay up to $300.

I'd love to see a VIP Annual Pass as well. Include the previously mentioned benefits, but also add select one time Gate A access to all rides after a certain time of the day, heavy discounts for the VIP tour or an AP Member version of it on select days, and access to VIP lounges. I'd pay up to $500/600

I don't know if Universal Orlando's passes have any effect on pricing here on the West Coast, but prices for Universal Orlando AP's went up a few weeks ago. It will be an interesting point of comparison. These prices are for Universal Orlando, not USH.

FLORIDA RESIDENT PASSES

Premier Pass: $429.99

Preferred Pass: $299.99

Power Pass: $214.99

NON-FLORIDA RESIDENT PASSES

Premier Pass: $479.99

Preferred Pass: $339.99

Power Pass: $239.99

Looks like it. They want to get as many non-annual pass members in the park as possible.

They should have a level of pass that is a full year for those who are willing to pay the extra money.

This is what's setting me off here....

Universal is still advertising "Buy a day, get a year free". Meanwhile, they are punishing the formerly higher-tier passholders by no longer offering free parking. If their goal is to make sure there are as few passholders as possible, doesn't that.....not make sense!? I realize that "buy a day" still has more blackout dates, but this VERY aggravating to see that they want to limit crowds, yet they're still pushing it and eliminating the parking pass.

Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid.

That's what I hate the most. They're alienating and punishing their hard core fans. They should have just changed the price of the premium ANNUAL pass to $250 or so, and made everything else a season pass. Just...the current no black out dates season pass is a complete rip off in comparison. I agree that they should've first gotten rid of the cheaper passes than the most expensive pass...that's what Disney did...

Just watch. When all the Potter-mania dies off in Summer 2016 and all the kids go back to school, Universal will be in trouble.

Lol.....Potter-Mania isn't going to die off in 2016, 2017, or 2018 man....Universal is gonna have enough people visiting, and locals will STILL visit despite price increases, even during "slow" seasons. Look at Disney. Always packed to the brim.

Apparently, the "Buy a day, get 2015 free" pass offer is valid until September 8, 2015 based on the commercial that I just heard on the radio that's advertising Supercharged opening. Do you guys think that we'll be seeing the new annual/season pass system by then?

Seriously...Universal cannot make up their minds. As of last week the offer was no longer available on the PC site. Now it's back. Haha. I give up.

lol I know haha. USH is so busy trying to be a resort that it doesn't know how. You wouldn't see Disney pull any of this haha.
