I mean, if the meanings are that convoluted and only able to be deduced after they're explained in hindsight by someone intimately involved in the creation process, they may as well be considered meaningless to someone without that access or insight.

Perhaps this is where I might get in trouble with this, and I do hope it isn’t deleted.

Over the course of the spec season, continually we have seen correlations to codenames from permits being put into connectiveness with that of the houses present. It was like that last year too, with Hollywood outright having it within source files (Monstruos was Churro, Dead Exposure was Crumb, and those were noted I believe from initial image dumps for the key art of Monstruos 2 and Dead Exposure).

I also kind of contest to that of the hindsight comment, as I knew from looking at other communities such as 365 and HNN, of how easily people picked up on codenames and their meanings.

Whether or not it’s meaningless doesn’t matter to the fact that they still have had codenames be purpose-driven in ways that makes sense to the context of their material. It was similar to last year, and it’s similar now. And I think going forward it shouldn’t be so easily dismissed as I know some of yall did try to do.

It’s admittedly why I am curious about Hollywood when their key art is shown off, if the blog does the same screwup that they did last time; because it’d prove of how vital codenames can easily be traceable.

Of course code names are “vital” to the process because it’s how houses are internally referenced. It’s literally the primary communicative thread for a house by the teams and would be vital whether it was the name of IP or a random animal.

And it’s interesting to me that the discords are mentioned in the thread for “Carnation” because the original thoughts for the codename centered around Christmas until people randomly connected a terrible dad joke connecting “What in tarnation” to a western house. Expressly, initially, said the house would be Yosamite Sam because I thought the connection was so ridiculous and tenuous it couldn’t be true. But, yeah. Hindsight.

But here’s the argument. “Carnation” could give you a western, but not specifically Hatchet and Chains. “Daisy” could give you something nuclear, but not specifically Fallout. The codename for El Artista was obviously no help because I haven’t seen anyone smugly commenting on codenames in that thread. So, no, you cannot “figure out a house” based on codenames. While they may point you down a path, it’s actual rumors and official information that tells you if you’re correct or not. Because Carnation could have been a Christmas house, and would still have people saying “guess code names don’t mean anything.”

Just like in 2023, if someone saw "Pear" they would never connect it to The Last of Us.

I, personally, love how some of yall love ignoring the actual comments I’ve made to have a “gotcha” moment.

My advice. Touch grass. Grow up.

Y’all want information until the information goes against what you want or speculated.

I mean I always just thought it was pretty simple - the codenames are ROUGHLY correlated to the house, but it would be incredibly difficult to guess so it's not even worth guessing - at least recently.

I remember when Ghostbusters was Smores and HO1C was Chicken!

I had seen it lean more into Ghostbusters, especially in considering the fact of Alicia's GB rumors prior to that.

I've been more and more neutral when it comes to HHN, loving it as I can and seeing it on the best of it in the terms as someone separate from the Orlando scene altogether.

But I didn't mean ill intent in what I had said--and you taking it as to an extent of me needing to "Grow up" and "Touch Grass" (especially as I had interviewed you in the past) is somewhat disappointing and I will choose however now to pick my choice in words elsewhere.

the whole codename thing has been pretty annoying. it's not that the codenames mean nothing, it's that they mean nothing unless you either a) know what the property is or b) are knee deep in the spec and, as a result, kinda know what the property is. that's been pointed out, i think pretty diplomatically. so to then drop in with "haha guess those codenames don't mean anything wink wink!" is, yeah, pretty annoying.

because y'all aren't getting "what in carnation" out of nothing; and if you are, idk, buy a lottery ticket.

Allow me to jump in, if you don't mind.

I am very pro-codename...but mostly as a tool to be used. Most of them (again MOST) can be reverse engineered to help confirm rumors/spec.

I will also argue that there have been several "Guys. Codenames don't mean anything" type of posts when people have been trying to do exactly that.

Most of the codenames that last few years haven't been any more convoluted than they have in the past.

IE: Snapdragon being WWE is no less obscure of a clue than "ABBA" being Lunatic's Playground, or "Captain" being Halloween 2 were. I'd argue that it's even more obvious to some.

It's just funny that we basically know the whole lineup now but people are still talking about codenames! That's a January-march thing guys lol

Past practices can help to determine future behavior. It's all about strengthening your tool kit for next year.

and most of them can be used to confirm bad spec, too. that's my point.

Alex, why else would you feel the need to say this?

Gotta love codenames and permit names having absolutely *no* meaning right? ;)

I've repeatedly said in some capacity that some will be obvious, some won't, or in some cases, have a convoluted tie-in (ex. Triplets - Fudge), and that it would be pointless to try to connect something that may or may not be there. For posterity's sake, this is the last I said on the matter:

Brian G. said:
Don't get me wrong, if ya wanna have fun, have at it - I'm just making sure y'all don't start looking for something that may or may not be there. I'm sure there will be some that do make sense this year, but in the same breath, you'll have some that are just named "just cuz".

I'm sorry, but it gets annoying when I (and I'm sure other connected folks feel the same way, too) try to offer insight only to get pushback because it's not what they want to hear. It happened with the 11 house rumor a couple of years ago, The Weeknd at UO last year, Monsters this year... My goal is only to try to help, which is why I only speak about rumors on few occasions because I want y'all to have your spec.

Yah. I have a well paying job that just happens to have a lot of downtime.

But I guess this type of post is ok for the mods, but people speculating on things connected to the event is "annoying". Cool.

demons to some, angels to others, and I'm willing to bet that by the end of the house, you, the guest, will get possessed by the demons and these two heroes will have to take you down.

So anyways, Hatchet and Chains, I wonder if there’ll be some cool fire effects for the lava demons.

I like that we now get the codenames in physical form inside the houses and the hidden animals. That, to me, is a lot more fun!

I agree, I think we also probably already have seen the Lava Demons in Slaughter Sinema 2 but possibly they'll have a new design to them to really distinguish from how they looked last year?
