Sorry, i'm late. Art students are usually outside smoking while everyone is inside talking.
I'm sure i probably don't need to cite this example to most, as it is pretty well known to fans of the 20th century avant garde movement, but for those who may not know,
here's a bit of art history from the Captain!

In 1917 Marcel Duchamp posed this exact question to the Society of Independent Artists at the Grand Central Palace in New York. Duchamp got up there with a literal porcelain urinal that was signed R. MUTT in reference to MOTT WORKS, the manufacturer of the commode, and a cartoon strip that Duchamp was a fan of. He did not alter the urinal in any way, he simply signed the side of it very shoddily with black acrylic paint.
The exact quote of his submission that shocked and beguiled onlookers for years, to the point that he had several more commissioned in the 60's, was thus:
"Everyday objects (can be) raised to the dignity of a work of art by the artist's act of choice."
Therefore, i feel a bit like Syndrome from Incredibles when i say "I
f everything can be art: nothing is." But that's also
kinda the point.
