I'd imagine Universal is excited to keep pushing this franchise into a post-Vin future.
I know Fast X was trash and we're all bored with it. I personally was a huge fast fan, saw every one of these things opening weekend for the past twenty years, cried profusely when Brian drove away to that Charlie Puth song, and even I would now rather it all went away. But franchises that can gross $700 million worldwide are few and far between, and no modern media conglomerate is going to let that kind of IP die.
