It is funny, Ripsaw is not the most accommodating ride, yet most people do fit in it.

As for MK, do they have an ADA vehicle? At Ripsaw our ADA can be used for larger guests.

Ripsaw triggered my EXTREMELY MILD claustrophobia and I am 6foot flat with a 36" waistline. Just felt like I was trying to fit my legs into a pretzel or something. great ride though. Also the queue smelled like butt.

The L-shaped part of the restraint doesn't help lol. Also fun fact, in the video at the load station, you can see all these iterations, the original lapbar without the L-part, the current one with the L-part, and the boat you see in the final drop is original without any restraint. But yeah, especially if you have to ride with a bunch of other people, it can be quite annoying.

Especially when busy a lot of rides can smell funny, mainly from people throwing out left over drinks. The ramps at end of Ripsaw have 3 trashcans, and there is one at the top just before you go down the ramps, a lot of breathing room for funky smells lol, and especially in the summer when you combine this with sweaty people :)

Sorry but People who are a bit bigger cannot expect companies to accommodate them when they design these rides to accommodate probably around 85% plus of the average guest. I mean if they had to keep accommadating bigger guest, where do they draw the line?! It is what it is and it should be motivation for anyone who cannot ride, to try to do what they can to eventually fit. Sorry not sorry

So there are a few things I want to address here, but firstly "probably around 85% plus of the average guest". I'm not sure what that statistic really means but anyway, the 93rd percentile of male height is a little under 6'1". These rides need to accommodate people over 6'1". These rides need to accomidate 99.9996% of guests.

Second, the line should be drawn with a mind towards who is this attraction for. Universal's and the manufactuers call with Pets was a mistake and they have learned from it. But on the other side of things I think the fact Pteranodon Flyers can't fit taller guests isn't as much of an issue as it's really a ride designed for younger kids.

Finally, we should approach this issue with compassion, from both the perspective of guests who do not fit AND from the perspective of theme park designers and safety experts.

This guy says he’s 5’5”, 422 lbs., wears size 60 pants and 4-5XL shirts and was able to fit in the back row so there’s still a chance if you don’t get the green light on the test seat.

It seems like this ride follows the trend of "test seat outside isn't the seat guest need to try" ala Gringotts, which has its 1st row seat that is never recommended for plus size guests (they will be more comfortable in the 3rd).

Dude, please, please stop. We get it. You love the ride. Other people are allowed to not like it or be disappointed by it or simply just talk about what it could've been. Diminishing others' opinions by mocking them as going through "mental gymnastics" is messed up. We all know you're a Nintendo fan. And that's awesome. It really is. I'm not knocking that at all! It's really cool that you love SNW. But not everyone is going to - or has to - have the same perspective on the land, the ride, and Nintendo as you do, but it perpetually feels as though you constantly want everyone to agree with you, and that anyone who doesn't is wrong, or an idiot, and anytime someone points that out, you seem to respond with blanket statement mockery about the umbrella "everyone." Like, we all want to engage in constructive discourse, but repeating the same commentary over and over ad nauseam isn't the way to contribute to that.

But people saying, I just want every ride to be a thrill ride is fine? Over and over again...I get it some of you love coasters with zero theme but this is a theme park.

Its a dark ride that is what it should be judged on, its a E-Ticket Buzz ride with one of the best Q's ever. Like the new Mickey Q for example is cute but compare it to Mario Karts and it blows it out of the water.

Also people can have opinions but I doubt most people have been on the ride more then once and its like go on it a few times before declaring its not a good ride but speed should not be a reason to criticized the ride when it was never advertised as that.
Is it a good dark ride? Yes cool you want a coaster, we are getting two more soon and I find it funny that if this was just a mario dark ride people would be like cool but because its mario kart it has to go fast even if lore wise it could be 50CC,

I'm just tried of people knocking for it not being the ride they created in their heads, The Mickey runaway rail road used the worst art style of the new show, doesn't mean I just dislike it. For what it is the new Mickey ride is amazing and so is Star Wars ROTS even though its in the weakest time period the sequels. If people want to dislike it cool, but have real reasons besides speed. What do you think of the Q? AR? Details? Variations of rooms? Music? Hidden Secrets? How the ride connects to the bands? ETC

I think you're misunderstanding why some are criticizing the attraction. I dont think anyone expected this to be a coaster. A coaster isn't appropriate for Mario Kart, unless it was like a family coaster at a regional park.

I'm judging the ride on a conceptual level. The attraction itself is pretty fun, if a bit overwhelming for me.

Let’s pretend that it’s cars racers

how would the AR googles notbfsll off if the ride went that fast? You’d rather not get DK land and or other new ride’s because you want to double maybe triple the show building for his ride?
I’m honestly not understanding what you want, the rude is detailed from W to on rude, features most characters people love, features multiple locations that are popular from in game, has lots of hidden secrets and Easter eggs and has fun stamps to collect.
Id love better details besides your disappointed and once again if you want this to be a thrill ride, that’s not what the rude wa ever going to be and for many good reasons if you need me to list them again.
Also have many times have you been on it? I find that myself and friends like it more after going on it a few times

I have a friend who loves Nintendo more than anyone I know but really dislikes MKBC. He said it feels less like a ride to him and more like a "place where you can sit down and play a different version of Mario Kart for a few minutes." (Direct quote haha.) I tend to think that's kind of an unfair critique at the end of the day, but I do see what he's saying. MKBC is an extremely impressive thing that can be fun, but I do think it sorta misses the mark as a theme park ride -- especially as the anchor of an entire land. It feels like it belongs on the second line of a music festival lineup, not the first, so to speak.

It is technologically advanced and the stuff it executes is executed very well, but there is something missing, and I think it's the "oomph" factor. People who like thrills aren't necessarily asking for an un-themed Knott's coaster with the Mario Kart name arbitrarily attached, just something with a little more kinetic, physical energy.

I have not ridden the ride yet so I can't fully weigh in. But I can totally see why Mario Kart can be a disappointment to some people. For me I think a Nintendo spin on a theme park land where it's very gameified is a fun concept that will set Nintendo apart and give it a distinct identity. But I can also see the other side of people who have experienced Nintendo IP as games already and instead were looking for a different kind of engagement with the Mario Kart brand as an attraction where it isn't like playing another video game.

Yeah, I just think some people would have only been happy if this ride had a HUGE footprint and is at the level of ROTS, which they decide to make the land into a living thing vs spending the money to make this RORS which lets be honest is cool but at the level of Investment Disney made did not make a huge impact on guests coming into the park.

Maybe one day we will get some amazing Eticket Plus ride like ROTR but not holding my breathe when the return on investment seems so low. Heck I'd settle for a Luigi Mansion moving pathment ride so I'm just thinking more "realistic" then what many think will be invested into these lands. Maybe Zelda ride will use wireless Vehicles and be an amazing dark ride close to ROTS but then people complain about trills and bet it will be a hybrid coaster like the mummy,

This is going in circles. You like the ride? Great, I like it too! The question is not “does this ride suck?” The question is, “What will the general public - who don’t spend any time reading about theme park news/discussions - think about a Mario Kart ride that does not go fast and essentially requires multiple re-rides to enjoy the experience?” We don’t have an answer to that until next month. I’ll be back for AP previews on the 30th and hope to get some insight from others who may not have been on yet.

Yeah you're doing a lot of projecting right now. Rise of the Resistance definitely sped up the arms race, but I don't think anyone here was expecting/demanding something on par (or better) for the SNW ride -- maybe hoping, but not expecting/demanding. Wishing the ride had some "oomph" =/= demanding an ROTR-level experience.

Universal wanted to adapt the experience of playing the Mario Kart video game to a theme park dark ride setting. That's exactly what MKBC is, and by that measure it's pretty dang successful. Whether that jives with people individually is down to a matter of taste.

Guys, I love Mario Kart. I just want the motion to have just a little bit more “oomph”. That’s all.

Some people are just not a fan of the format of the ride. Some people would have preferred a RSR kind of ride. That’s okay.

No but seriously if the general public doesn’t like the ride, the park will shut down for good, the land will detonate in a massive mushroom cloud and we’ll all die. Everyone better like this ride.

I’m actually already dead (my spirit left my body when I saw the tarps — was already barely hanging on after the lack of mushroom popcorn news), so I’m way ahead of you guys.

I actually don’t think Test Track/Radiator Springs would’ve been the ideal ride system for this…really, it would’ve been the SCOOP. You don’t need sheer speed to recreate the Mario Kart experience physically, but a good blend of motion/spinning/projected media would give that illusion (look at Transformers, that’s a ride that FEELS fast in a box that’s no more than a couple hundred feet wide).

Take the ride as it exists now and add some bumps, spins, and abrupt changes in motion to simulate the racing. Add a few screens to simulate jumps, flying, underwater, etc. Have some sort of dynamic motion to simulate being hit by shells and bombs and stuff. Boom, you’ve hit all the major aspects of the game without needing to go more than like 8 miles per hours.

Would that sacrifice some of the interactivity? Maybe…but the Mario Kart video games already give you an interactive experience. Pushing a button in a slow-moving vehicle isn’t that much more exciting than pushing it at home IMO.

Caveat: I haven't been on the ride yet, so this is based on an incomplete picture of the full experience via ride-through videos.

I don't take much issue with the speed of the ride vehicle.

What is more odd to me is that Universal would design what would appear to be some pretty wonderful and fun physical/physical-heavy dark ride scenes, only to obscure them (to one degree or another) with some fairly frenetic animation, and then make the interactive component dependent on focusing closely on what the AR is projecting at you instead of just being able to enjoy the environment.

That's a choice that seems to work for plenty of people, but there's a contingent for whom it doesn't.
