I agree with you about the queue, the rooms BEFORE bowsers castle just look like a cheaply done kindergarten art project. The short queue in the castle however, is really well done.

There must be plans to swap out the pre show from Japanese to English. But the fact they could not have that here at USH on day one is an epic fail considering how many yers this ride was in development.

I understand the art style of the older games but the translation into real life and to the ride queue did not look good to me.

the outside rooms look a little less great, I assume even more so because they are hit with natural light, but I love the indoor black light Yoshi area.

Would you rather have the land not opened to guests?

No. It just baffles me they could not create an english spiel alongside the Japanese one.

They did. For technical and logistical reasons we are not privy to, it has not been uploaded into the attraction yet. Fortunately, they still have a preshow that uses visuals and English verbiage to explain what to do. I have full confidence there will be a fully English preshow by opening day.

I mean its whatever on the English Dub but it once again begs the question on how....how after 2 years of it suppose to being open and they couldn't record the Dub like months ago....I'm more confused on why somethings just seem so last minute. Just weird that's all, I'm happy its open and a fun ride but no clue why the dub wasn't ready day one.

Just got back from the parks, was lucky to get to the land today and walk on the ride it then got a 60, 75 and then 100 min wait and this is before Express. So that will add another 30-60 mins to the wait. So I'm assuming most days at the peak times it will be 2 hours and 20 mins to 3 hours and maybe over 3 hours during the peak season.

Also my advice is unlike Disney shooter rides which dont care how much you shoot on MK is about saving shells for certain moments to get a higher score

I was really surprised by how much I liked this ride, wasn't sure if I'd be into the VR thing, but it actually worked pretty well and didn't give me a headache. At some point, I couldn't really even tell what was practical or not anymore, between physical sets, screens, AND the VR, my brain totally had suspension of disbelief of almost all the elements. The interactivity between all those things as well is INSANE and must've been hard to pull off. For a first time, I'd definitely see it being worth an hour to 2 hour wait, just to see it. For repeats, I'd say an hour is fair. The other upside, I thought the length of the ride was great as well and it built perfectly to its climax. Like other criticisms I've read, I wish it could've been faster and the VR element with the hat is a little clunky, but considering how much I imagine that to be a total cluster -- it was fairly smooth. After the pre-show, the line comes to a standstill, but the rest of the line moves great. I highly recommend checking this out, it really needs to be seen to be believed.

Just a heads up its AR and not VR

So most likley thats why it doesn't make you sick like VR can.

This was an interesting ride for me. I'm coming from the point of view of basically knowing absolutely nothing about Nintendo (never played any Nintendo at all, Igrew up in the Atari 2600/Commodore 64 generation and never really played computer games after that). I mean, I do know who Mario and Luigi are from Donkey Kong, but that's about the extent of my knowledge. I had to have people explain to me who Yoshi and Bowser are.

But it was nice I didn't really have to know anything to enjoy the ride. And while generally I'm not a huge fan of shooting games, I'd have to say, out of all the shooting games, this is by far the most entertaining one I've done. And the fantastic physical sets really elevate it from Web Slingers and Midway Mania.

My only two slight issues are:
  1. The pre-show seems a bit too long, and frankly, a bit boring. I was expecting it to be a lot more entertaining. I understand it may not be the English one, but even so, I thought there'd be more humor, sight gags, and sound effects. It was pretty dull and seems it could be shortened.
  2. I've only had one ride on it, and I went in spoiler-free, but I don't really understand how the steering impacts the game. Do I get points for steering accurately? Because sometimes I'd steer in the indicated direction, only to have the car spin in the opposite direction. Like, is that supposed to happen? Didn't really understand that part of the game.
Aside from that, I had a good time on it, and seems very re-ridable. And the queue is a blast to walk through.

I don’t have a full answer but, with the turning, Mario Kart is a crazy game where things can be thrown at you to misdirect you or change your course of action. I do think you get points for steering correctly, but maybe you hit a banana peel lol

Honestly I think Turning gets you close to 40-60 coins by its self. I think thats on purpose so those who suck at aiming/the AR is off/kids who throw all their shells at once and miss can still get a pretty close score to 100 without shooting a single shell.

I would have loved for that section to have featured a giant Bowser animatronic instead. Like maybe he could've smuggled a Mega Mushroom as a last ditch effort to crush team Mario and rig the race. It's really my only "gripe" with an otherwise fun looking ride.

I thought the Japanese subtitles were done as a nod...I didn't know that wasn't the finished product

Either way, I think where MK will really shine as an attraction is in its re-rideability

I'm not sure many would be able to get off of a projection mapped speed simulator and jump right back in line

Also, the point system that ties into a grander point system is quite genius

Full Disclosure: I was a Mario Kart Naysayer all along until I rode it. I thought I would not like the ride as shooter style rides are not my thing, The AR implementation is superb and quite honestly this was the most fun I have had on a ride like this in a long time. Sitting in the front set of seats is the ideal position as the back row has some issues when looking down but overall a great ride that is fun and re-rideable. I rode it 4 times today and I thought this would be a 1 and done type of ride like web slingers. The queue is fantastic and the ops seemed really good considering it is day 4.

So for those talking about the loading times... I can see a world down the line where this attraction gets a major update to make loading faster as with so many people investing in it now, the technology is advancing rapidly. But what you guys are using on that ride is still the future.

Here's the design of Apple's AR Glasses that are going to be coming this year for example. Slim and easy to put on by consumer standards, but bulky compared to the MK AR glasses.
apple-ar-headset-concept-2.jpeg

The just shown off at CES 2023 HTC Vive XR Elite glasses are also small by consumer standards, take on a bit of a sunglasses approach and sort of Ready Player One-ish, but still, extremely bulky compared to the MK ones.

super-Nintendo-World-mario-kart-AR-glasses.jpg

The point is, the loading times may be slower than you'd want, but this ride is giving guests a chance to experience AR in a way they won't be able to at home for years and years to come with how slim it looks and themed to Mario's hat on top of it. This ride is well ahead of it's time.

Drove down to LA today to try out SNW. Land is so cool, teared up a little bit when I walked in. Its borderline overwhelming.

As for the Mario Kart Ride, it was...completely fine to me. I rode it about 2 times. Queue is even better irl, pre-show is butttt, ride is fun. The physical setpieces are amazing, best part of the ride. The AR didn't feel as different as I thought it'd feel irl, but its still really impressive tech. Sometimes I did feel that reality blur...but at the same time, I cared more about the dark ride part than the game part. I found the AR a bit overwhelming at times, even on the second ride. Its absolute chaos, but its definitely a different kind of chaos from the games. The Mario Kart games are organized chaos, while this just felt like pure chaos. My partner liked it a little more than me, but she too felt it was very overwhelming. I'm not ADD, but it was a little too much going on for me.

Is this how I would had made a Mario Kart ride? Certainly not.

Is it fun? Yeah, its cool. The tech on display is stunning and the dark ride is great. But I'm definitely not in love.

Edit: I greatly appreciate and am highly impressed with the tech of the ride, but idk if I love the ride itself. Maybe I need more rides.

I didn’t find an issue with the headset. Though it would be more complicated but people seem to get it. It works well. Did get the tip from Dustins twitter post how to wear the headset to optimize its use.
