I feel like awhile back there was rumors for omnimover shooter ride, 2 flat rides, and dining. So it’d work.

For Luigi’s Mansion? I never thought it’d need anything more than the one ride. Doesn’t seem like the best use of all that space to me.

The problem is there aren't really any more viable sub franchises within the Mario umbrella.

Donkey Kong could really use a rocket barrel spinner or a play area though. Hopefully they expand to the right.

The way they planted trees to block a new portable office in that top corner of the expansion between Nintendo and Dark Universe makes me feel good for the future. Will be interesting to see what happens in the space where all the creates are now near DK when they’re done with them.

How exactly did they plant the trees?

It seems possible that they could utilize half of the expansion plot for Luigi's Mansion, and save the other half for future expansion later on. I feel like The Comet Observatory from Super Mario Galaxy could work well for that space.

Or maybe some new location we've yet to hear about from the new 3D Mario.

The Comet Observatory would have to be entirely indoors.

Lots of Expansion space. Epic, once grown out, will be pretty large. But opening day Epic is probably smaller than people are expecting. You can't really count most of Helios acreage since most of it is not part of the park for admission. Opening day is probably a tad under 80 acres, guest space. Decent size but not MK level size.

Just a tad under Disneyland acreage then. Not bad really. Will be an easy park to navigate! :)

Disneyland is well over 100 acres since they added GESWL. I think they were at 88 before that. So, it'll be closer to what Disneyland used to be before 2019. One good thing about Epic is that it doesn't have a huge body of water like IOA taking up a lot of potential foot space.

Jeez I’m excited for this park but why can’t modern teams make a park built to pack in as much as Disneyland does. Even looking at the expansion pads it feels like once those are filled in (likely with a single expansion each with the 20 acre spot being 1 whole land) the only way to add anything more would be to start removing stuff.

Disneyland was really sparse when it opened, and no where near what we see today. Parks will always build out more over time.

Not what I mean. The way Disneyland was initially built allowed for them to add as much as they have over the years. The way Epic is layed out looks like it would be filled in much sooner meaning they would have to completely remove or cut into one of the opening day lands to keep expanding and adding new attractions. Heck, look over at USF and IoA for two perfect examples of what I mean.

I'm not sure I necessarily agree. Aside from Dragons, there's Phase 2 expansion space at each of the lands as well as 20 acres of expansion for two new lands? Including the blank spaces of Celestial Park, it seems like a good bit of land to me.

IDK about this comparison..

Disneyland was not originally designed for the extensive expansion it ultimately underwent. While the initial park included dirt lots that were TBD, once those lots were developed, the park had to be creative with its use of space (i.e. POTC, Haunted Mansion) or ate into backstage space (Toontown and Galaxy's Edge).

Each EU world has an expansion plot, in addition to 2 big expansion plots. It'll be fine.

I'm not sure it's so much a matter of how the park is originally designed (though I'd be curious to hear any specific design traits you have in mind). I think it's a matter of what type and scale of attractions get green-lit in the modern era. Nowadays every attraction has to be fairly substantial to get the go-ahead, and maybe that's because nowadays a new attraction opening is designed to provide a more impactful marketing "moment" and bump than back in the day.

Compact (acreage-wise), attractions like Swiss Family/Adventureland Treehouse, Sleeping Beauty Castle walk-through, Fantasyland dark rides, Enchanted Tiki Room, Country Bears, etc. don't seem to happen as much nowadays. But if Universal wanted to, they could tuck a bunch of small attractions here and there all over the park. Between queuing and the experience, each may only occupy a guest for 10-30 minutes (shorter for the walkthroughs, longer for a compact dark ride or show), but adding ten of these could fill up several hours of a guest's day...and take some pressure off the E-tickets by providing an alternative.

I'm a big endorser of these types of attractions, so I hope Epic is packed tighter in the years -- or more realistically, decades -- ahead.

I’m mostly expressing concern over the long term. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say over the next 30+ years all or most of these expansion spots will be used up. What then? All I’m saying is I’d like to have a local park that could be as packed as Disneyland and looking at Epic it doesn’t seem to be designed in a way to last even 50 (being real generous here) years without resorting to the removal/replacement of large areas that USF and IoA have to use. That’s really it.

I think it would be interesting if Universal ever tackled the hub and spoke model that the castle parks have. I think that’s kind of the king when it comes to efficient use of land. Also how not every addition needs to have a whole land around it like Luigi.

Thanks for reminding me I’d be 61 then lol.

It’s really just a thought about how the park that started it all seems to be the only one capable of finding new space without mass removal.
