Maybe move your "premier hotel 2" and slide it down on your road to the bend, close to your DreamWorks hotel...then the resort can wrap the hotel creating a buffer between the guests and the sewage. Maybe back some of the show buildings against the back of the property and make them higher going back with rockwork to blend out the "stink barricade."
Sprinkle in a few cinnabons and pretzel shops near that side of the park and you're in the clear

My updated new resort map. CityWalk is the complete heart of this resort. Pretty much everything to the left would be phase 1.

Not sure how relevant this is and sorry if it’s been posted (can’t see it) but noticed Universal used ‘Epic Universe’ today on instagram.

It's either their new marketing or they're teasing us.

Great first post and welcome!

They definitely like using that word. I got this email a couple days ago.

Maybe Comcast could also partner with Poopurri and install huge misters aimed towards the treatment plant as a last line of defense.

Sewage can be a problem, if you are ever near that Walmart down the road and the wind is moving in the right direction, you can smell it clear as day.

While I was having my house built, we rented a house for seven months that was about 50 yards from a city sewage plant. The smell of chemicals was almost always in the air. Not something I would ever do again.

Not to get into it too much again- but it is a non issue.

All wastewater plants are completely different, but you can easily control smell with additives, less retention, etc.
I’ve been to a hundred+ different wastewater plants. Some stink to high heaven. Some don’t. I’ve been to one surrounded by multi-million dollar homes.
Any plant can be remedied. It just needs the appropriate hammer. Million dollar homes and tax base? No scent. Universal? No scent.

I’ve been in this industry for 13 years and work with toxicologists, engineers and consultants who construct plants on a regular basis. I also test the products that are used for odor and solids remediation. Shell, Exxon, industrial clients, municipal clients of all sizes, etc. Trust me on this one fellas.

I don't care how they remediate as long as it can be done successfully, and doesn't raise ticket prices.

They wouldn’t pay for it. It would be on the county to handle. Orange County operates that facility.

So all good. :)

Disney actually uses theirs for fertilizer throughout the property. It not even really noticeable except right after it rains.

That’s nice to hear and I wish more cities would do that. For those that don’t know or care- you use a dewatering polymer that mixes with the “solids” and then it goes on a belt press. It’s exactly like it sounds...
Then, you’re left with what they call “cake” - which is a completely dry (dewatered) solid that feels and looks like dark black, rich dirt and really has no smell (although you wouldn’t touch it). Unfortunately, at that point, the overwhelming large majority of cities takes it by the truckload and it ends up in landfills.

But for disney, if they use for land application, they have to add a crap ton of lime and also get it certified for land use. Because they don’t take in any “industrial” waste, they wouldn’t have the insane expense of removing heavy metals. It’s still more expensive, but it’s the right and ecological thing to do. So good on them. Next time you see those flowers blooming, just know you had a little something to do with that :ack:

Epcot has a crap ton of flowers, and now I know how they maintain them. Just as long as that "cake" doesn't end up on the dessert menu, good on em for taking advantage of their customers natural by product.

What are the chances that we’ll see some form of announcement (groundbreaking/concept art) next summer?

It gives Universal enough time to clear and prepare the land, submit permits, and finish the warehouses. It allows both the Potter coaster to stay in the spotlight for a little while, and SNW in Japan to be announced in full. And it takes the edge of SW:GE.

Do you mean this upcoming winter? Because SWGE opens next fall, so there won’t be a lot of hype.

Groundbreaking and announcement of something that won't open for 4-5 years won't steal hype from something people will be able to visit next year. I think we'll probably get an announcement sometimes in the next 18 months, but it won't be to "steal hype"

I think Uni would start hype after SWGE. No matter what Uni announces, SWGE will remain the headline news of Orlando for a few months as bloggers and such visit. Now, maybe the WDW land opening after DL may take a way some of the hype, but it's not like announcing a new park will take away all the excitement. Worse, if Uni announces too early... people would want to visit all the new WDW stuff and hold their Universal vacations unto the new park opens... that's a nightmare. I think Universal's best bet of attacking SWGE is to just add something new to the current resort every year, before the new big stuff happens. That way, UO is not completely dead compared to WDW's offerings.

While you’re right in most aspects, I don’t think Universal will wait to announce the new park after SWGE. They have to start construction next year, and with that comes a groundbreaking ceremony. They’ve also alluded to the new park multiple times now, so they’re being completely open about it.

If I had to take a guess...

  1. Permits leak later this year.
  2. Universal purposely leaks concept art early next year, to see the reception.
  3. Groundbreaking in September, along with a short concept video and art.
