Yeah, from the trademark I’ve read on Reddit. She can’t be used or explicitly mentioned in theme parks and haunt venues. Almost everywhere else is allowed.

Right, but the important distinction here is that Bloody Mary is not a public domain character in the context of Halloween Horror Nights. For all intents and purposes, she is an IP, even if Universal basically adapted the legend into something completely divorced from what the owner created.

Universal can use Mary Agana, the pre-Bloody, viscously cruel doctor character they developed as a backstory for “their” Bloody Mary, but Dr. Agana is pointless without the mirror-focused “Bloody Mary” alter-ego.

So they don’t.

Actually, @Legacy himself confirmed way back on the old horrornightnightmares forum that according to Aiello, it was just a random doctor. So Mary Agana never made a appearance after 2008.

I also think they deliberately changed the wig/appearance of the performer in the scene after fans started declaring it the return of Mary Agana online.

The only two reappearances I can think of are 1) her costume and a Bloody Mary-like mannequin (with white eyes and scarred face) in a museum setting - can’t remember the specifics, but it was there and labeled as Dr. Mary Agana, and 2) the cracking mirror gag in Icons, which was a legally permissible allusion to the character.

I wouldn’t consider Sinister & Surreal as icons. The way how they were debuted and executed was done too carelessly.

Yeah, they felt like last minute additions to the event in 2024. And their entrance scarezone is by far my least favourite zone they’ve done.

That "Duality of Fear" scarezone was baddddddd. Can't think of a scarezone worst than that one.

There wasn’t really some sorta of overall theme related to Surreal & Sinster at 33 unlike the previous with Oddfellow, The Pumpkin Lord, and Jack. Looked more like your typical IP era year. I think A&D were probably desperate to do a duality theme for years, and botched it with no time to do more effort.

Be as that may, Sini3ter and Surr3al are considered cannon icons.

Meanwhile, Sergio isn't considered an icon but he had SO much more going for him at HHN 34:
1. His own house with an intricate backstory
2. He opened the event during the opening scaremonies
3. His influence infiltrated over into 2 scarezones (Origins of Horror + Masquerade: Dance with Death).

Make it make sense Universal!
