Oh engineering management, how your cost effectiveness dampens creativity.

I can't agree. I find Everst as is a bare bones mountain ride compared to Big Thunder. It just has no substance backing it up aside from the backwards portion.

I actually really find the backwards portion to be lazy. It hits some Gs but basically feels like the Himalayan carnival ride (funny coincidence for the name there) and I hate how not only did they cheap out on the inner mountain theming durring this part of the ride, but they could not even have the showmanship to make sure it was dark enough to where it would not matter. I can pretty much see the skeleton of much of the mountain during the helix.

Disney is not about corners and things you can easily miss. They are supposed to be about the things you don't easily notice or would miss if they were not there. The yeti was designed to be a focal point whether there is a static figure or black tarp there now. It is still a big failure in what the ride promised to deliver on multiple forms of PR and imagineering. It will never work as it once did and it will likely never work again at all. It will eventually become a situation of "Hey did you know the yeti at the end once really moved?" and someone will respond "That is just an old Disney urban legend"

I agree. As much as I love the ride I'd expect more from the interior theming. The backwards part does kind of suffer because of the light that comes pouring in from the hole. Maybe just that first part of the helix could have some cavernous concrete work? and cold blasts of air like on test track to complete that whole everest feel.

From Screamscape:

The latest reports on the Disco Yeti at Animal Kingdom are not good… from what I’m told the Yeti is no longer covered up… nor does it appear to be lit up by strobes. According to two different reports, the final room is almost entirely dark… you can barely see the Yeti just standing there in the dark… doing nothing, which is kind of sad. So I guess instead of Disco Yeti... we now have Emo Yeti. At this point, I think I’d be happy to see a Stilt-Walker in a Yeti Costume dancing the to the Macarena than to have nothing at all.

Hopefully this could mean work is going on, though. Haven't they been working on a B mode?

If Screamscape is right, and i haven't heard anything to back up their claims but it wouldn't surprise me, then this is a disgrace. And people wonder why we say TDO is cheap and clueless?

Something has to be going on. Why turn off the strobes for no reason all of a sudden?

Disney has gone to C-Mode, which stands for who gives a **** mode. I still think the Yeti will be back in motion by summer 2012.

Let us all admit, however, that the backwards part of the ride is a thrilling tour de force. I only know Orlando area rides, but that extended backwards ride is unnerving at best and a shock for the new rider. How many roller coasters go backwards for 5-7 seconds in the dark with sound effects? I suggest that the yeti was just passing an ice cream cone in 1-2 seconds at high speed. The yeti was never the psychological thrill that made the ride. It is everything that happens before. Sitting in a "broken train" on a track that has been destroyed by the unseen yeti, on the edge of a precipice is far more thrilling and good story in my book. I have ridden with enough new riders to hear that they didn't see him... when it was running 100%.

:inquisitive: You're kidding right? The backwards portion of ROTM lasts all of one second and is a drop into the turntable. On EE its a good 5 - 10 seconds of thrills.

He's talking about Hollywood's which has a longer backwards section. However, this isn't a debate thread, and Mr. UNIrd decided to throw that lil blurb in to show his love for Universal, which ultimately is unneccessary in this thread and how the thread has been discussed. Furthermore, he offered no insight as to why he finds ROTM better. It's posts like this that really get me frustrated with the boards sometimes. Same with Broadwayj's post.

I never would have gauged that he was talking about USH  I've never been on it either so I have no clue if it is better or not.

I've only been to UO, and it's certainly not the on par with Everest. I do miss the fully animated Yeti though. I'm assuming that, once Fantasyland opens, they can safely send Everest into a refurb and will.

The original poster, Teebin, was discussing the tour-de-force that is the backwards portion of EE in the Yeti thread and jtsalien brought up ROTM first.. So why don't you call out everyone guilty of discussion on this discussion forum.

I'd guess he doesn't check every post every second. He saw the latest one and made the call.
