Interesting. So this could turn into a laser tag ride like men in black? Oh dear...

We already can’t steer, it’s gonna need some element of interactivity. It is based on a video game after all.

Those are some fighting words. Spheal is super cute

Honestly, a selection of starters and a few well recieved pokemon across the generations would work fine.

I'd guess that there will be an adaptable element of the Pokemon land that would allow them to cycle through different groups of Pokemon over time.

Of course some like the early starters or Pikachu are forever, but it'd help the repeatability immensely if there's an adaptable element.

Would you happen to know anything about being able to manually swing the back of the kart to simulate a drift? Not sure if this patent was hinting at that, or if the "drifts" are going to be pre-programmed (assuming this is even a thing).

That’s one of the only patents I don’t expect to see integrated. If it is, maybe for banana peel wipeouts. But not something you can control.

And here I thought that the swerve would be controllable so that one could skid to hit points/icons.

Just speaking for myself, I consider myself a big fan of Mario I have so many happy memories of Super Mario Bros 1,2,3 and 64 and Sunshine and so the idea of a Mario Land at my favorite theme parks was crazy exciting and while I'm sure walking through the land will be neat, ultimately you pay the ticket for the rides and these rides aren't exciting to me. I have always hated Mario Kart and have never had much time for Donkey Kong Country and Yoshi's Island. The fact that there is no ride tied into what makes this stuff so great is odd.

That is how it works in the game, but has Teebin ever played MK?

One thing I am curious about is that if they end up doing AR, how will the objects appear to those in the second row of seats. The AR objects on the track should theoretically be slightly obstructed by the heads in front of you, otherwise they will appear to be floating between you and the front row.

From the tiny bit of research I have done, AR is barely to the point of handling and calculating stationary object for the AR to hide behind. How could it calculate and compensate the heads in front when they are in constant motion due to human movements in the vehicle?

Stadium seating?

I would not be surprised if the work stoppage in Japan was due to them ditching AR. I just don't see it as ready for primetime, but who knows, maybe they have something up their sleeves

No AR = Less tech issues to worry about on opening day AND no glasses. This is a definite win, imo.

The big benefit of the AR glasses is that you still need physical environments. If they have issues, they simply don’t hand them out.

I’d view them as a way to plus the experience, not define it.

And if it's not ready for primetime when the ride opens, they can always add it back in later.

Honestly, I'm just going to air this out right now.

Things like this are really hurtful and the reason I hardly participate in this website. I went back through my posting history and I compared Avatar and Nintendo literally in a single post in the last year. 10 people bickered about it for a while and I followed up the whole conversation with one more single post...

Even said I hardly post, that really started with the Guardians in Epcot business, which is completely reminiscent of this discussion. It's not in my nature to gloat or be condescending when people are mistaken, so I just dropped off for quite some time and found I rarely would even catch up on this website.

Why is the culture here to always be so sarcastic and dismissive of other people, especially people who post less often? It shouldn't even matter if I was right or wrong, I was trying to contribute what I knew. What's even worse is I'm feeling this ostracized, what about people who actually make big mistakes or assumptions accidentally?

Everyone needs to be a little more supportive, we are all equally excited for these projects.

I do think you are a super considerate poster @Mad Dog and apologize for grouping you in with another poster. That's probably why I'm more upset that it wasn't just another snarky comment from the peanut gallery.

Sorry, back to happier discussions!

I enjoy all the information you bring to this and the other forums you post on. You bring a view that is is not seen in this country and I appreciate hearing what you know about happenings not of this country.
Thank you for that and hope I continue to see your posts when you choose to make them.

Lost continent in it's original form was the most beautiful land in all of theme parks in Orlando IMO.

I very much agree, it's from a different time of creativity and imagination.

In my opinion, losing VR would only make the attraction better. It would mean they would have to be more creative and come up with more practical effects.

Did we ever figure out what the contrast marks in the permits were for? Excluding the coaster track, of course.

I think Pokemon definitely creates an interesting challenge if you are going to go the interactive route. Because the object is to "catch em all" not shoot them with guns (Buzz/Alien Attach) and although I think you could go the photography route with a Pokemon Snap type game you would need this ride to be more exciting than what people can currently do with Pokemon Go on their smart phones. Really you should be throwing balls at the Pokemon but that just sounds impossible. No matter what I think the development of the rides for Pokemon will be most interesting, I just hope we get some sort of dark ride and not just spinners. I'm not opposed to some easy flat rides, I just hope we get at least one amazing dark ride.

Also I feel like an egg hatching center where you get a mystery pokemon would basically print money.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, just steal the Avatar Banshee hatchery, throw in some Ollivanders theatricality featuring a Pokémon Professor, and allow people to choose their starter Pokémon that sit on their shoulder. Feature Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and Pikachu at first, and you can expand the line later.
