Was that really intended to be a JP3 tease? I always took it as a simple claw mark effect. I know they do that for the JP3 logo, but I never thought it was supposed to be connected to the film. If so, ugh.

A freaking men. Also the original JP didn't even make a billion in the box office, in fact, no film in the universal parks made a billion in the box office. Actually, barely ANY movies make a billion dollars in the box office. JW is a theme park with a thousand possibilities for real attractions, why not make a land on that instead of the unfleshed out land we have today? Would you rather have the gyroshere or Hammonds hoops? I don't care if it's a "classic", one is obviously better for the theme parks then the other. :faint:Rant over....

Well back then, no movies made a billion. Hell, 100+ million weekends weren't a thing until 2002.

You guys are getting a little carried away I think. First of all, I agree that box office doesn't need to be the sole motivator for theme park attractions. But one weekend is too early to tell if something will last. I mean Disney jumped the gun on Avatar and that was a few months after that had finished its theatrical run. So this whole conversation IMO is happening a couple months too early.

But for arguments sake, let's say JW does make a billion, has huge cultural relevancy, continuously strong merch sales, etc...you still have to ask if Universal benefits at all from retrofitting JP with JW. Thematically, ok JP doesn't make sense anymore, but did it really make sense in 1999? After Lost World had taken place do people really want a Jurassic Park in Orlando (that same issue happens with JW but whatever). A theme park doesn't have to be ridiculously canon, it just has to establish a familiar place and do it well, which Jurassic Park currently does.
Then you have to run a cost-benefit analysis to see what all that re-theming would actually do for them financially. River Adventure isn't going anywhere, they could revamp it but would it really make a difference and would that bring in any more turnstile clicks? Would tearing down the Discovery Center for a more JW-style building really be justified financially? The only thing they could do that would make sense is add a new ride, but that would be tricky. Even then, there would be no reason to update the WHOLE island around a new ride. It just wouldn't be beneficial to Universal.

JP as it is now is fine. Its an Orlando branch of the theme park chain. That's good enough if you ask me, and the extensive aesthetic updates that you'd need to do to bring it up to Jurassic World standards wouldn't bring enough ROI to make it more appealing than just leaving the island largely as it is. Minor upgrades, I can see, but JP is doing fine enough in its current state to deserve a whole facelift.

Well it's a little different here because we're not talking about an unproven franchise, we're talking about a sequel/reboot to a classic.

I don't know if there is ever going to be a middle ground though. Our generation is always gonna defend the classic. With Jurassic World, this new generation is seeing it and are probably getting introduced to the series for the first time.

I'm pretty sure it was intended to be a JPIII tease, yea. But that's the best place for the Indominus

If they pull out that claw screen they could put a breakaway door that irex busts through. That would be scary!

Oh, is there a large room behind the screen, one that they can put the pop out engineering in to shove it out and pull it back in? An 8'x10' room should fit the bill nicely.

Those ideas may be the bill to get around the space problems. A few unique to JW add ons to JP River Adventure could really plus the attraction. And using the extra Trike space for a new attraction that doesn't require a large area and voila, JW gets its due, and Universal attracts more customers.

I don't know how much space is behind there. But depending on how much there is they could get creative with how much of the dino they actually need to build. Just me dreaming of cool stuff they could stuff into the ride.

You laugh, but I actually think this would be a great, unique, outside-the-box type attraction for the Trike plot. Walk through the trees and into the stadium, have a live trainer talking through the show, and then giant mosasaurus launches out of the water and snaps his jaws! The dino doesn't even come fully out of the water; this is just made for a huge hydraulic arm launching it out from under the waves and an epic animatronic jaw snap.
They could also really easily pull off the seating all being lowered down under the level of the water to watch it swimming around, just like the movie. This would be a really cool, and totally do-able, bit of theme park magic. It would be unlike pretty much any other attraction, and wouldn't be just another coaster / regular dark ride etc.
Honestly, this is so much more practical AND unique than any of these other ideas. It would be such an experience. And it would fit neatly in the space, if the stadium followed the curvature of the existing Trike plot borders and faced towards the lagoon, probably removing all the land between the Bilge Rat Barges lift and the Discovery Centre to make it one body of water. I might even draw up a plan later if I get time.

Make it happen, UC!

I'm not sure a movie's profit has too much bearing on deciding if it is good theme park material. I do think concepts like dinosaurs or fast cars will always be popular.

Folks sometimes bring up synergies, but there is a lot (to me) tied into that one word. So something I wonder about is 'what does Spielberg want'? I mean, isn't he still a creative consultant for the park or something like that? How many UOR rides past/present have there been? I just think, as a company, they would always be willing to do anything to keep him happy, his movies do well for the studio arm and movies he has been involved with have translated well in the theme parks.

Couple of little things I could see happening:

well speaking of synergies, how about Falon doing the pre-ride spiel? Also, would it be hard to add a hologram to the discovery center?

Is it too late to re-theme kong? Universal has to be kicking themselves for making Kong and not expanding JP. A $200+ domestic box office on opening weekend. There's no way Kong has that kind of appeal and the Skull Island movie cannot and simply will not make that kind of money when it's released. JP has gotten the shaft over the years when IOA has expanded, it's about time JP starts reigning supreme again.

Kong could possibly be the best attraction they've ever built, so I doubt they're that upset.

And I think there are creative ways to expand JP still. Toon Lagoon is sitting right there.

They should start a transition through phases. I think the worse would be changing the roof on the Discovery Center, but if it is possible, then the rest would just be a total redo/update of the DC interior. More money for JP River to add/replace show effects with new technology and move around the island one project at a time.

Well Jurassic World allowed for several theme park options if such ever happens. What I'd like to see personally. ALL just ideas to HOPE they come up with something if they decide to expand.

-The River Adventure ride . I don't care too much for this ride except the drop. You basically flow down some river almost like "The Land" at Epcot with a narrator. Well IMO watching the JP movies and now JW, we need no rides with a narrator. Would say create a jeep ride, but Kong somewhat takes care of that. Great opportunity to use a Trackless ride system through a forest of prehistoric animals while actually being elevated at the same time leading to a huge what would be drop except only to be chased through winding paths into a Waterfall where the trackless vehicle can therefore be utilized in water and still flow to safety in a sense.

-Leave the story telling adventure and education to a Discovery Innovation Center. It can be something just as Innovations at Epcot except all new and digital with original fossil work to include interactive sessions and stations throughout while featuring a combo restaurant of Burger Digs and Thunder falls at the top over looking the lagoon and Jurassic like now. I like the Discovery center, but it would be a nice update !. Would love to see a huge T-Rex statue on his own deck overlooking the Lagoon.

- Raptor Encounter - Leave this, but why not use a 4-D 360 theater with a motion vehicle on a track. So having basically a spherical object enclosed but on a track to move not like a coaster but just added sensation to a run with the Raptors as they try to hunt you because your vehicle goes of course. Sort of like "Wild Arctic" but a motion theater on a track". I just love the idea of having a raptor containment area contain a ride.

- Pterosaurs - Some sort of flying adventure update. Be it the existing flying ride expand it's capacity ride vehicles and make anew track over and through the entire Jurassic Park or a new flying coaster that flys somewhat over the lagoon and through a new Discovery Innovation Center.

- If we don't get GodZilla, a Gringotts type ride that shows the two Dinos fighting along with a run from the raptors which could be incorporated using 3D but have an actual coaster park similar to "Mummy" all together.

Just a few thoughts from the movie. Had it not been for "Shamu Stadium" a Mosausar Water show would be a no brainier lol.

Jurassic World just set the global weekend record for Boxoffice, beating Potter, Avengers and more. It has a cinemascore of A, and appeals to all ages/demographics.

I think it's fair to bet JP IOA will see changes. Despite how amazing Kong looks, I do have to wonder if they regret not putting it elsewhere to allow for a monstrous Jurassic expansion. That may yet come, but things in the park would need to be removed.

Yeah, in my opinion you can't really compare the rebrand/reno of Spiderman to updating JPRA. I mean at the end of the day, its a water ride. Only so many people are going to go on it, where as Spiderman was already a popular attraction.

I agree with the sentiments someone stated before: it has to make financial sense to make it JW. I like the little additions here and there, but I would rather see $$ and resources be allocated to new lands and other areas in the resort that need serious attention. IMO, this shouldn't be a priority.

Would anyone be upset if Toon Lagoon gets the boot? Retheme Dudly and Popeye, make it JW or any other IP. It'll be better than what we have now.

I love took lagoon because its hotnyear round so its as functional as the weather. That said i would not be upset at bringing a popular property to replace it no.
