I loved Welcome to SCarey and it was in my personal top five of 2021. I was very happy to see past Carey properties i never got to experience. Especially after doing a lot of research on past originals. I hope the rumored H.R. Bloodengutz house is something similar but without the plexiglass and vinyl. And i get the concern with the general public but… I’m okay with houses like that appealing more so to the die hard fans

If it is, I hope they do a better job than Scarey. I worked that house, so it holds a special place in my heart, but it confused so many people, because if you were not a dyed in the wool HHN fan, you had no clue what was going on. That, and it really suffered from the vinyl curse. (TRUST: The scares in that house would have been SOOO much better without the vinyl).

If it is a "mashup" I hope that HRBG intros each room, or something like that to give some cohesion. With the rather mixed reception of Welcome to Scary, I don't know if they will do another mash up so soon. I really do like the idea of HRBG hosting "RUN", since this *may* be the last year that location can be used... I have little doubt that as soon as Hollywood Drift opens, FF will close.

with Scarey, I personally was ok with the random characters, but the biggest problem I had was the sets. it was too random I wish it felt more like an actual town like Blood Moon: Dark Offerings.
it was like too random

Marathoned Scarey like 6 times with my buddy one day right at opening, it was his first year at HHN and one of his favorites. It was my 12th year and also pretty up there.

I hear you on a lot of this. I liked SCarey but understood the complaints. As someone who never got to see many of those houses, it was great to catch Dead End / Wyandot, etc though.

If they were to go the mash up route, an intro with HR as the star and then at least a voiceover between each room (à la Slaughter Sinema) of him introducing the next “segment,” represented by a different original concept, could work.

The reality is, even within the F&F location, I think there are plenty of claustrophobic fan favorites that could be featured in tight quarters to strong effect: Scarecrow, Darkest Deal, Wicked Growth, etc. Bordering on wish list, so I’ll cut myself off. But I think there’s reason to think they will do a mash up (just drawing a trend line) and that this could be it.

Heard the theory out there that HR Bloodengutz could be our mashup house. At first, I doubted it. But in thinking back, at 20, 25 and 30, we did see a mashup anniversary house. Maybe you could argue that our “anniversary” house is J+O, but that would break the trend of having one house dedicated to showcasing fan favorite scenes.

Like Bood pointed out, it could be like 30 where we have two "anniversary" houses, although from what they've shown and described I wouldn't necessarily call Chaos & Control an anniversary house. I could definitely see Bloodengutz being the host for a traditional "remember these houses?" house though.

On the subject of the tribute store -

Obviously the Mummy queue is king. They need to do everything they can to get it back here.

If not, the Hollywood location can suffice for 1 more year. Like Brian said, the Wicked Experience could maybe work - but is that much bigger than the arcade?

As for the arcade.. Rosie's Irish Shop seems to be closing. If they do have it in the arcade again, I wonder if they'd have access to that area now.

Bigger, but also better layout.

A friend said the best idea they can do with the Arcade is to help offset the loss of Finn's and turn that into a themed bar.

Rosie's has other plans AFAIK.

I think the layout would be better because they'd actually be able to have separately themed rooms like usual. Lol.

As someone who hadn't been going to the event long when SCarey came around (I started going in 2019), I didn't like that house at all. It's been one of mine and my husband's bottom three houses since we started going. I'm sure it was great if you got all the references, but it just felt confusing and disjointed as a newer HHN fan. BUT, we also didn't really care for Slaughter Sinema 2 last year (it was better than SCarey though because the concept made a lot more sense to us), so maybe mash-up style houses just aren't our thing haha
I love a cohesive story that flows throughout a house. I'd rather any mash-up type older references be in the form of a scarezone (which also allows you to take in any of your old favorites a bit more and disregard ones you don't know/care for more easily).

Makes total sense. I haven't read a single Harry Potter book or seen a single (entire) movie. If I googled "best moments in the Harry Potter franchise" and watched it, I'd have no clue what the hell is going on. What's a snitch!?!? Muggle, is that a word? Whatever those screaming plants are, what's their deal?!? Etc. If you don't understand the context of the slippet, it's useless.

You liked Slaughter Sinema more because you were in the same boat as everybody else and each room was designed to be self-contained, the faux poster / queue video gave you just enough info for what the story was, often playing on well established tropes, and you saw a small portion of it play out in front of you understanding that it was supposed to be absurd, or funny, or scary, or over the top violent, or whatever.

I think if they are going to do anniversary mashups, which I myself love, they should do something like they do with Slaughter where the room dividers has a poster type thing that says something like "From the fan-favorite house of XXXXXXX from HHN31" with the keyart from the house. Something that simple could make it a bit more digestible for new attendees and help senile old farts like myself remember what each call back was from :)

Yeah - my first event was 2016. We missed 2021, but when I watched all the walkthroughs, I saw SCarey and said "yeah I would have had no clue what was going on in there"

I do think this is what could allow HR Bloodengutz to be a more palatable mashup - feels like it could be naturally tailored to “introduce” you to each original snippet, so hopefully solve some of that confusion for folks!
