Makes total sense. I haven't read a single Harry Potter book or seen a single (entire) movie. If I googled "best moments in the Harry Potter franchise" and watched it, I'd have no clue what the hell is going on. What's a snitch!?!? Muggle, is that a word? Whatever those screaming plants are, what's their deal?!? Etc. If you don't understand the context of the slippet, it's useless.
You liked Slaughter Sinema more because you were in the same boat as everybody else and each room was designed to be self-contained, the faux poster / queue video gave you just enough info for what the story was, often playing on well established tropes, and you saw a small portion of it play out in front of you understanding that it was supposed to be absurd, or funny, or scary, or over the top violent, or whatever.
I think if they are going to do anniversary mashups, which I myself love, they should do something like they do with Slaughter where the room dividers has a poster type thing that says something like "From the fan-favorite house of XXXXXXX from HHN31" with the keyart from the house. Something that simple could make it a bit more digestible for new attendees and help senile old farts like myself remember what each call back was from
