I’m not a wrestling fan, but like a few others have said here, the original interpretation of an IP has me very interested. Similar to my excitement for the Eilish house and what it was rumoured to be.

I hope this has a ripper of a heavy metal soundtrack.

Yeah, but Eilish is an artist. Movies, music, video games, comics - all art. The WWE… isn’t.

Oh I disagree with this. It's definitely low culture, but that doesn't preclude it from being art.

I think that’s more than a little unfair. WWE is a full blown theatrical production with storylines, heroes and villains and a deep legacy that people care about.

Again, I’m not the guy to ask about the current WWE lineup (I know nothing about the Wyatt clan) but The Undertaker, Macho Man, Ultimate Warrior, etc etc are about as famous as pop culture figures come. There’s an appeal to those stories, and there’s art to that: those stories and characters have been passed down for several generations now.

It's been mentioned, but anyone who is hesitant on its inclusion at the event, watch the video of the Wyatt Sicks debut

Yeah WWE is very much a theatrical production

Like it or not it definitely is a form of art.

As someone who isn't all that familiar with the lore revolving around the Wyatt Sicks (besides their introduction video), I'm pretty hyped for the house. Well, hyped isn't the correct word to use, more so intrigued. WWE feels like a very unique IP that could bring something different to HHN.

I can’t wait for them to announce the Dead Coconut Club theme this year, as I’ve really enjoyed the last few

As much as I would love to see a comedy show return, I just don’t know that we are in the day and age of comedy anymore. I don’t know how you can make a comedy show without offending someone.

Hoary and outdated high culture/low culture distinctions have NOTHING to do with whether something is art, and I would think my inclusion of video games and comics (and theme parks and Halloween mazes) as art would have made that very clear. Not all performance is art, however - Twitch video game streamers, for instance. The distinction matters. WWE’s blurring of reality and performance, part of a much wider phenomenon, has been tremendously damaging. That said, I don’t begrudge those who enjoy it and understand it, against its own machinations, for precisely what it is.

Have literally zero interest in WWE, don’t get, it never have. I find the idea of this house extremely exciting and the surprise factor alone has it very high on my most anticipated list.

OK! That’s a real positive development.

But… Haunt-O-Phonic? Is the HHN copy writing department one confused guy in a utility closet? I don’t think it’s supposed to be comedic but it sounds like a novelty disco record from the 70s.

I understood your point, and don’t necessarily disagree with its impact on the wider culture. I just think you’re wrong.

That’s fine, but the only point you’ve offered is that “low culture” can be art, a point with which I very enthusiastically agree. So I’m not sure of the basis for the disagreement.

Let me ask - is reality TV art? Are theme parks influencer youtube videos art?

You said it's not art, other people said that's not the case. It's not that deep.

Right, I disagree with your narrow definition of art. That’s it.

I think it’s an incredibly deep topic. There are folks who’ve spent their whole lives studying and arguing about it!

My definition of art is incredibly broad! To Jake - are there ANY limits to what can be defined as art?

I can see the point if you’re looking at wrestling as a sport, but, I think there absolutely are strong elements of storytelling, pageantry, theatrics, etc. in WWE that would make it an art form.

Are soap operas art? Is Jiminy Glick or drag (treating fictional characters as real) art?

If your answer is yes, congratulations, you think wrestling is art.
