Earlier in the spec thread there was talk about two parks. While this comes up every year, and it’s logistically highly unlikely and gets shot down early on in the spec season, I seem to remember some “insiders” being a little kinder to these rumors this year.

Is it possible that someone got their wires crossed, and learned that “Jurassic World” might be a house concept, and gotten it confused with a house taking place in the “Jurassic Park” land at Islands? Obviously, all hints lead to a single-park event at the Studios, but I wonder if, given the potential IP, there was ever at least some internal talk about it.

This will be something that bugs me if a JW house happens. There’s a whole JP land next door not being used for the event. Walking backstage at USF into a soundstage into the world of JW is so anticlimactic compared to walking through JP to get to a JW themed house . I felt the same way about GB not entering near the facades and KKFoS not being in a tent.

I love anime, but I am in the same boat.
Not a huge fan of anime at the event but if it happens, it happens.

I was thinking: the list can’t be all that difficult to come up with collectively, can it? The ”divide the fandom” piece isn’t the limiting factor considering that all “horror-adjacent” IP’s seem to divide the fandom. It should be easy for a bunch of HHN junkies to muster up a list of “horror-adjacent”properties. That leaves the difficult piece as realistically weighing whether it’s large enough to headline. To me, a few obvious properties that fit the bill on popularity are (and keep in mind, I’m trying to keep it loose with the “horror-adjacent” description with the expectation of debate):

1. GoT - Nope. The ship has sailed at this point.
2. Witcher - Most Possible out of this list. Some of the monsters and creatures are damn scary.
3. Goosebumps - Unlikely due to seemingly contract hurdles.
4. Scooby-Doo - TOO Family-friendly.
5. Harry Potter - Nope. Dark Arts at IOA is what we get.
6. Jurassic World - Nope. The current parks are how they wanna rep the franchise.

I think something that some of us need to keep in mind is that the recent "Horror-Adjacent" properties like Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice are two of the most popular IPs of the genre and has had lasting appeal over 4 decades (and are more than likely a big part of the childhood of HHN creators & designers). So Horror-Adjacent is still horror, just not in your face about it like a Texas Chainsaw or a Scream would be. Not to mention, while they were received in a mostly positive light - it also wasn't the slam dunk like Stranger Things was (with the common complaint being "not scary enough")

Beyond that, we gotta think of how it ties to the event with relevance and is it a money-maker (appeal/headliner, merch, food & bev opp).

So while something like Coraline may be a fun house to see come to life and can fall into the "Horror/Horror-Adjacent"... the chances of that coming would be less than 1% IMO due to every other parameter. It's the same thing with Casper and Scooby-Doo. They may be great experiences, but they are very markedly a family-friendly IP and IMO would be a marketing nightmare. "Come see Casper the Friendly Ghost and LEATHERFACE CHAINSAW PEOPLE!"

And that's where the discussions start to become someone's wishful thinking and not actual speculation.

I definitely agree with this, but I understand why we probably won't have HHN in IOA again. From what I remember, IOA logistically couldn't work anymore with the crowd capacity. Even on its busiest days, IOA is really crowded and I couldn't imagine having HHN there. I wouldn't mind having a JW/JP house even if its in a soundstage. That honestly could be the "splitting the community" house, because so many people would want it at IOA.

I don’t think it’s Witcher because this IP is described as massively popular with the GP. This was another IP I had to look up to find out that it’s a video game.

Yeah I don't think it's Witcher either. It was a good show, but It didn't really leave a lasting impact with the GP. After it was trending, the show was never really brought up again. The video game does fall in a niche anyways.

I just thought of this, does anyone think its a bit weird that we haven't gotten the dates yet? From what I remember, we usually get it during January.

Last year we got it in March. In 2019 it was right after the event ended. Sep 2 - Oct 31 feels like a pretty "safe" bet.

It differs from year to year. Sometimes they announce it ASAP. Other times they wait.

Recalling what we know about this IP…

1. It’s horror-adjacent.
2. It’s popular with the general public.
3. It’s as divisive as the Billie Eilish rumor was - meaning, it’ll split HHN fans into people who do not believe it belongs at HHN and people who think it’ll have enough horror imagery/content to warrant its spot at HHN.

Not gonna lie, I’m pretty stuck. Once it’s revealed, it’ll probably seem SO obvious. But I keep circling back to “classic” IPs - Gremlins, Jaws, Terminator, Clue, Rocky Horror Picture Show…I just don’t know. Nothing mentioned so far feels right.

That's owned by the mouse...

Terminator is defiantly a reasonable guess for something... but I don't know if that's popular enough for this big "horror-adjacent" IP because of the recent un-popluar films in the franchise.

This is kinda wishlisty but I think it would be interesting if we got Evil Dead, but Evil Dead the Game that just opened pre order today. We've never really got the original yet, and I think it would be kinda funny to have the game before the actual original.

Something that’s popular with the general public, that I (personally) couldn’t see translating well to a house would be the movie Midsommar.
