I don’t think that’s popular with the GP and from reading the plot it’s in no way house material.

Great film, but the big moments in the film wouldn't translate well into a house.

Beyond that, we gotta think of how it ties to the event with relevance and is it a money-maker (appeal/headliner, merch, food & bev opp).

So while something like Coraline may be a fun house to see come to life and can fall into the "Horror/Horror-Adjacent"... the chances of that coming would be less than 1% IMO due to every other parameter. It's the same thing with Casper and Scooby-Doo. They may be great experiences, but they are very markedly a family-friendly IP and IMO would be a marketing nightmare. "Come see Casper the Friendly Ghost and LEATHERFACE CHAINSAW PEOPLE!"

And that's where the discussions start to become someone's wishful thinking and not actual speculation.

Having been here since the IoAdventure days, that's what this thread becomes every year.

Not to brag like I solved today's Wordle, but HHN alum Rob Zombie helming a horror-comedy remake of The Munsters for Universal's own in-house streaming service checks virtually every box: Well-known IP. Not really horror but uses horror iconography. Bound to be divisive because fans hear "Munsters" and instantly think cheesy sit-com. Rights and relationship with the creator not an issue, clearly. And corporate synergy, like Dracula Untold, Wolfman, and a dozen other houses/zones before it--which explains why it's one of the first houses worked on and why it will likely show up on both coasts. They probably even have Dragula in storage to put up in front like the KKfOS ice cream truck.

But we're still going to get speculation on anime, and Batman, and some death metal group that's never even heard of the Billboard charts. Because right now, in fans' minds, the event can be anything. And the event you dream up in your head is even better than HHN 21 or 25, because a real life event will never match it.

[BTW, I think Witcher possible this year, even more likely in 2023 if no new season of Stranger Things, but it doesn't really match the OP's clues.]

But is Rob Zombie going to keep the light-hearted, not really horror at all style of the original show, or is he gonna steer it more towards horror? Keeping the light-hearted style makes it "horror-adjacent", but if he gives it a darker tone, making it more like a horror movie, it'll probably lose its "horror-adjacent" feel. Therefore, it wouldn't be as fan splitting.

If he keeps the "horror-adjacent" feel of the original show, it fits the criteria we're looking for.

Jordan Peele has another new movie coming out. Don't know if he counts as a big IP based on his name alone

People are thinking "Nope" is about aliens. If this turns out to be true, then this is the first time one of his movies sounds exciting to me.

I hate to make another post of just "throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks", but another guess on the "divisive" IP could be...

Twin Peaks?

I mean, it would definitely cause some bemoaning from HHN diehards that it's "not horror" and it would fit the whole "adjacent to horror".....but a smash hit with the GP? Would the GP be booking trips for a Twin Peaks house?

Twin Peaks came up earlier. Consensus was it’s not a popular IP with the general public. It’s considered a cult classic.

We’re going in circles, as is tradition lol.

But if it does wind up being Munsters, y’all can bet I’m quoting my post & claiming the speculation prize  (I never get to be that guy so don’t count on it haha)

Still doesn’t seem like a “GP” thing on the level of Billie in terms of “event gatekeeper”-generated controversy though.

Game of Thrones for marketing and Stephen King for the horror fans would be a sweet deal.

I do not think Game of Thrones is on the table this year. Plus as mentioned before by others, the time as past.

So what if the IP is the woman in the house across the street from the girl in the window? I’ve heard that’s popular

To add one little mention on GoT not being viable, it's not just a matter of the series ending years ago...you also have to take in account how it ended. From its final season, it went from a Pop Culture Phenomena to being flat-out ejected and rejected by the Pop Culture Zeitgeist. During its heyday and if it ended on a favorable note, it might have had a sliver of a chance of being a house or something. But as it stands, its chances are so next to nothing.

The hint wasn't just popular, it was a "potential headliner". I don't think that film falls under headliner.

Just because something isn’t “for you” doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be at the event. Not trying to come across as condescending but if HHN wants to do a property/ original idea, there’s probably a good reason! A great lineup in my opinion is something that’s for everyone, not just me. There’s really no such thing as a “bad lineup” as a couple of you have described. Even great IPs can have poor execution so never judge a book by it’s cover. Be supportive of the talented peoples that create the event. How about instead of a “why is this coming?” we try “maybe this isn’t for me…but I’ll give it a try and be supportive to the event and the people who are creating this experience.” That’s my two cents. You don’t have to agree but I wasn’t overly excited for this IP when I first heard about it, but I gave it a try and it’s now my most hyped of all time. I’ve seen the threads go into madness over this last week and to that I sincerely apologize for stirring the pot a little too much, but please, just be supportive. The event is for everyone.

Bear with me, but what if we're getting....Call of Duty Zombies?

That would definitely cause an uproar with HHN die hards, but think how many people would be like "OMG!!!!! CALL OF DUTY ZOMBIES HOUSE LETS BOOK OUR TICKETS NAOOOOWW!!!!"

Mock my post mercilessly but you know that would sell big with the GP. It's probably not that.
