I think UO missed their chance at an HP hotel/great hall restaraunt when they opened originally. Kinda hard to shoehorn it in now.

It would be amazing to see how Universal would tackle HP knowing what it knows now.

I just don't see a HP hotel happening. The hotel would have to be Hogwarts and since it already exists, they can't build two.

I don't think we'll see a hotel until after Star Wars Hotel opens up. If that hotel turns out to be a huge success, that'll open the floodgates. Hotels are a huge capital investment. It's why they have themes that wouldn't alienate people (no pun intended!). Star Wars Hotel would scare off people who aren't huge Star Wars fans. Disney has the land + money to build a hotel that fails and doesn't attract an audience. Universal doesn't.

Universal needs proof that a fully themed, $$$$ hotel will attract people.

There should've been a small number of in park rooms at the Three Broomsticks and Leaky Cauldron.

Why don't you think so? If they're doing any sort of expansion to Hogsmeade, I think that wall would be removed.

Can I post the image from the article here? If not - it looks like they're routing a lot of the storm water basin to the Jurassic Park one. I tried my best to trace it below:

Dang. I wish Universal could buy that high school and expand IOA out a bit more...

I hope and pray that they fix the FJ locker situation...Worst design ever...

Is it weird that I am more excited for this than SWL?

A lot of people throughout the world will be more interested in this than Star Wars. Plus there will be more stuff to the expansion than just the coaster. This was a wise choice by Universal to go against GE. It will do better than many people here expect. Potter will bring strong attendance gains, no doubt. I'm a strong believer in the Potter theme park allure.

I'm surprised Universal doesn't have 1 in park room like the suite in Cinderella's Castle.

I'm sure the logistics for that are a huge pain though.

Not really. I'm more excited for Star Wars, my wife is more excited for HP. I'm sure they're people more excited for TSL and some probably aren't excited by any of this.

They could probably charge a ridiculous price for it and somebody would pay to make it worthwhile.

Hell, they give the room away for free as a promo for the new ride and the free publicity would more than pay for it.

I think Disney just opens it up for VIPs and the occasional contest winner or something. In the end, there would always be too much demand for something like that.

Even if you look at the competition they ran a while back, Facebook was flooded with articles about it.

I'm sure Disney will do the same thing for their 50th. A website will run a nice story about it and people will book a vacation to Disney for the 50th in the hope that they might win.

How far south does the perimeter Dragon Challenge sound barrier wall reach?

I think it only borders DC from what I can see on Google Earth.

They're idiots for not packaging it with weddings as a honeymoon suite yet. It just makes perfect sense. They could charge whatever they wanted and people would pay it.

I have an image I created with the 942 permit area overlaying a Google maps shot of IOA. I don't have image hosting, so I can't upload it here. (Maybe I could message it to someone if they want to post it.) Anyway, it covers not just DC but the entire Lost Continent area, up to the bridge leading to Seuss Landing. Not that that necessarly means the entire area will be redone, but it does make one wonder...

On the bottom of the screen to the right of the post reply button is an upload file button. just upload the image there and it'll let you put it in a post.

Oh okay, thanks. Here it is. The black outline is around the 942 permit area. (I literally layered the outline of the permit space found in the image in this Bizjournals story on top of an IOA Google map.) There's plenty of space for another show building in that upper left hand corner, as well as an extension of Hogsmeade and a Forbidden Forest in between. The fact that the area goes straight up to the water suggests a possible boat ride.

I think Rowling will want to avoid another big eye sore of a roller coaster standing out over everything, so a completely or mostly indoor coaster of some sort, perhaps with the Shrieking Shack as an exit or entrance to disguise the show building, makes sense.

A few other thoughts:

1. How long would it take to disassemble Flight of the Hippogriff and move it deeper into the Forbidden Forest somewhere so they could use that area as additional viewing space for the new Hogwarts/Forbidden Journey light show at night, and possibly as a performance space during the day?

2. I definitely see them building a full-fledged Madam Puddifoot's, perhaps where the Dragon Challenge entrance and lockers are currently? (See area outlined in black below.) This would keep them from having to remove that wall that separates Hogsmeade from what will probably be an extended Forbidden Forest.

Puddifoot.jpg

3. I could see the exit from the Hogwarts Express leading in two directions, either directly into Hogsmeade or into the Forbidden Forest. This wouldn't result in a broader Hogsmeade area but it would double the amount of space available to Wizarding World guests at IOA. And unlike Hogsmeade, which can be get quite hot, the Forbidden Forest would provide lots of shade.

4. Universal is not going to remove or alter Mythos, and I think the Mystic Fountain will stay, too. But Poseidon's Fury could go and no one would miss it. Maybe the Eighth Voyage of Sinbad as well, at some point? How likely is it that Universal will ask Rowling to work something resembling Mythos and the Mystic Fountain into future episodes of Fantastic Beasts, I wonder?
