I’m not against the IP, but I do agree it’s annoying to see.

But Uni also has the option to like…. Just let people chill too if they’re not going to use any of the 4D effects for any films. Literally just relaxing in one of the seats while they play classic monsters snips would be great.

But that's not going to draw people in. You want something that will pull people in. That's the whole point of having this open. You want to absorb as much capacity as possible. If they do this they might as well have the theater sit there empty because only a small handful of people would even bother.

If it's between DWT sitting empty or hosting this anime experience, the choice is obvious. But unless I missed something (and maybe I did!), I don't think that was the situation -- I don't think the choice was between nothing or Chainsaw Man.

I fully, wholeheartedly agree with this statement:

The event isn't supposed to be everything for someone; it's something for everyone.

However, HHN still has a wheelhouse, and some of the 2025 choices are pretty clearly veering outside of it. Chainsaw Man is anime -- we have an entire separate event for anime; Five Nights at Freddy's, despite being horror, is a lot closer to that gaming/otaku culture than it is horror culture; Fallout is just straight up not horror, period.

I don't think it's unreasonable to bump against this stuff, and I don't really get the antagonistic response toward people.

But between this and Fallout and, to a certain degree, even Five Nights at Freddy's, it's more like HHN is getting away from what makes it HHN and drifting toward being a general pop-culture mashup.

It's worth pointing out that people have been saying this for the last 6 years straight since Ghostbusters came the first time, and then again when Beetlejuice was in discussion, and then again with The Weeknd, etc etc you know what I'm saying.
The event is gonna be fine. Are you gonna have to put up with there being less straightforward gore/jumpscare horror at the event? Yes. That's inevitable, Murdy himself said they're actively trying to push the boundaries of what kind of properties they can do at the event. That doesn't mean the straightforward stuff is going anywhere, we have Terrifier this year, Monstruos has had kids and babies getting eaten every single year, the same gore and slasher stuff the event has had since its inception is still alive and well and isn't losing ground.

Especially when it's anime/manga stuff that directly dips into horror, I don't see what the problem is, I don't like The Purge but I've had to live with it for 12 years now lol.

I am so glad we have the people in charge we do....some of you guys would just make the event so boring only Halloween and tradition horror...nothing fun or to bring in new people just pure "horror" or nothing

If you don't like this skip it, people didn't care for Blumhouse or Chucky ether but I'm glad they were open to take a break and eat up some people

This event is just insane and its going to be hard for most people to do in one night and they are clearly pumping money into the event and they are hitting everyone
Go watch the video online and this show and tell me it doesn't fit the Halloween theme

The well in traditional horror isn't as bountiful as one would imagine it to be. And I think it's vital and important that we look at what is possible beyond traditional and conventional norms with what people expect out of it.

We're seeing it with Fallout, FnAF, and Wyatt Sicks; where non-conventional horror and on-conventional media can be seen under a potential lense of HHN. Does Chainsaw Man just break the camel's back because it is "Animated" and more action-focused in nature? I also think it's good to remind people that in spite of itself, it has been a headlining element of Japan's event since last year too.

Hell, the original story seems intent in making sure the "Chainsaw Man" brand can work in the context of a Universal theme park from what it seems to me atleast. Unless we want to gloss that over and associate "Anime/animation" as strictly something that should only be at FFN, to which I say that'd be limiting your own perspectives to be based on what was before.

Right, and it's kinda been a trend, no? Like the choices this year seem to stem from those past situations. I'll say it for what feels like the millionth time: I don't think this means the event is changing in any dramatic way, especially not immediately.

I actually agree with 95% of what you say here, except for this: "Murdy himself said they're actively trying to push the boundaries of what kind of properties they can do at the event." I've worked in marketing long enough to know that this actually means they're just looking for new consumer segments.

That inevitably forces changes to the core nature of the event, and once again for the millionth time, it's not unfair or unreasonable to pause and think about that and maybe offer up some criticism. The antagonistic response to that is the weirder thing, IMO.

Like this is exactly what I'm talking about lol -- that the event literally called Halloween Horror Nights is somehow worse off if it features things closer to the Halloween and horror vibe. Like . . . what?

We just gotta embrace that next year, Kpop Demon Hunters is fair maze speculation because someone will say "there's demons and demon hunters, what's not horror about it?" All the IPs left untouched and all the original ideas one could possibly do, for some reason now is the time to stretch what fits at the event. Even though in the early years, even Scream was considered "too goofy for HHN." Do I feel jaded by that? Absolutely. Should the event change? Ofcourse, evolution is necessary. The evolution just seems a little...askew.

I will say, I am staying consistent though LOL because I definitely bumped heads just on an idea level with Alice Cooper (which I think semi-won me over eventually), Black Sabbath, This Is The End, Universal Monsters REMIX, Stranger Things, Ghostbusters, The Weeknd, etc etc.. For the most part, I've also ended up hating those mazes.

I'm not saying that KSF has been steadfast 100% over the years, but they've done 50 years just fine, sticking mostly to "Halloween and traditional horror." And the only reason I'd ever call it boring is its repeated mazes, definitely not the themes it uses. I think this is a weird take, especially when we have Fan Fest now to offer these alternative experiences.

How can you know its not a Halloween Horror themed show?

Its a Guy with a Chainsaw for a face killing Pumpkin Monsters and Zombies.....if thats not Halloween to you then cool but to me that is Halloween

When they did the retheme and upgrades from Shrek 4D to DreamWorks Theater, it kind of resulted in some changes that...removed, the 3D from the theater. AFAIK.

If they were to do it, it wouldn't be as simple as simply reinstating 3D. It'd likely require capital expenses that could only truly come if DreamWorks Theater for daytime ops gets enhancements and a new film.
