If you're paying the amount of money that you pay for a Disney park ticket and there is the technological capability of picking what you're shooting, you shouldn't have to PAY for that. It's the pay-to-play gamification of an already-very-expensive commodity. Walt would be disgusted.

I think it's multiple things. One, Disney hasn't succeeded at doing interactive elements well (The Galaxy's Edge app as a substitute for a static land). Two, the value add you're getting from a $30 power-up band exceeds that of the $35-$65 web-shooter. The former enhances the entire land and is a single purchase. The latter only affects a single ride (that we know of) and interfaces with additional merchandise to. Third, there's a potential pay-to-win element that many of us find predatory and scummy.

Nintendo may also be predatory, but not to the same degree. You can find interactive upcharges scummy on principle, but I think we should admit there is a difference in degree between what Disney and Universal are doing, even if there isn't a difference in kind.

I see it as the difference between paying for an additional experience (wands, Savi's Workshop, power-up bands) that doesn't affect anything else and making an attraction pay-to-win essentially lessening/completely altering the experience (and a competitive one at that) for non-paying riders,.

Feeling more or less the same way until I see this thing in person. I don't really have the energy to feel one way or another yet. This move oozes Chapek but I am willing to bet if it's not successful with guests you won't see this type of thing become a trend.

We can all agree that it's tacky, though. And Disney shouldn't be doing tacky.

Agreed. Not sure how this is any different than Harry Potter wands or, what’s that other pay-to-play product Universal offers? Oh yeah, Express Passes...

I will say though, this ride doesn’t look even remotely interesting. Then again, neither did Flight of Passage and that turned out pretty well. I do wish they would’ve opened with a bigger Avengers ride though, and that any possible underperformance of this area as is doesn’t hinder them from expanding into the rides this property deserves.

Its about what is the Price and literally paying to Win

The Parks cost 120 bucks on most days now, but now I have to buy this for 30+ (I think it will be over 40 bucks)

While USH to me is an AP park you get the band for 20-25 bucks and will come back alot. Disneyland is becoming a resort, I want everything included. I already pay a lot to get in then parking, hotel if you are staying more than one day, and ohhh yeah you want Fast Pass on your phone pay us for that as well. Costing you over 200 bucks for just enjoying the parks, not including food.

It they gave you one and then you could buy it at the end to take it home that would be 100% fine but its not that...its paying to win in a park that already cost too much

Apparently it's $65 - $30 for the actual tool and $35 for the character-specific attachables.

Wow

Just wow, if true not looking forward to Marvel in the Parks. They are just going to nickel and dime us. I do honestly think this would make Walt Spin in his grave, I mean if this ride was NEXT level and this is the only way to make a profit fine...but its really not.

I genuinely think that this is going to flop and be kind of an embarrassment for the Parks division.

Galaxy's Edge (even though I have loved it from the start) had Rise to prevent it from flopping.

This doesn't have an e-ticket anytime soon (if ever).

I guess my hang-up is that "winning" on these interactive rides gets you nothing. There's no prize. There's really nothing at stake. Somebody in each vehicle already ends up with the most points by default (somebody has to) on these rides. Would it give some kid an advantage? Sure. Do I think that is going to ruin the ride experience for those kids whose parents haven't bought them the shiny accessory? I'm uncertain.

Sadly I will bet against this

People are STARVING for fun things to do. Look at the DL/DCA Calendar its pretty filled up even with the lines going up

Reviews will be meh/good but most people will not care, especially if they have kids. They will go have fun and we will all be hear hitting our heads on our keyboards asking why. They just upped the prices on Lightsabers and didn't cause any kinda uproar

You have never played against me on Toy Story and Justice League (at MM) I always have top score in the car and its cool...but no more skill just "fun" so what the hell is even the point of points

My real point being if its not about points why even make it a "game" I rather it be just a badass dark ride like over at IOA

I certainly agree that ripping-off Toy Story Mania (in the very same park) was not the best choice for Disney's take on arguably Marvel's most popular comic book character.

The difference is Toy Story is fair

Anyone can beat me if they looked up a guide this is like "f that buy this or lose" so once again whats the point of a score? They could have easily made these "free" on ride and if your kid liked them then buy them but noooooo we don't make a billion bucks per Marvel film and charge you an arm and a leg to enter our park. While we are at it let's make the Canoe ride have an optional feel...you use your hands or pay for the pattle...cause why not

It’s possible this could be really neat (it probably will be), but having to pay extra (significantly extra) for an already pricey theme park experience sounds really, really lame to me.

As long as it doesn't take away from those that don't buy it, I won't mind.
