As long as the land has areas that are atmospheric and eerie (like the Mummy and Kong queues, or Knockturn Alley), I think a more "adventure" tone could work pretty well, provided they don't screw around with the monsters too much.

From what I had heard, that is the case.

I'll also reiterate what I said before, but this land is the first on the chopping block should anything major change with the plans/budget, so keep that in mind.

It sounds like Universal Monsters could be the best land in the park. Hopefully it doesn't get cancelled.

Regarding "Stephen King" as a potential IP -
1) I'm not suggesting an entire land dedicated to Stephen King. One ride is not going to jeopardize the "family friendly" atmosphere of the entire theme park.
2) Universal Creative could do almost anything with the IPs. They wouldn't be forced to include the "elevator with blood" scene from The Shining. They could do something as simple as a Pennywise (It) thrill ride... not suggesting this is a great idea, but they could easily retheme Dr. Doom's Fear Fall into a Pennywise's Fear Fall.
3) Considering Stephen King's popularity and Universal's precedence of either working with him or previous plans to work with him, Universal reaching out to him to partner for a theme park ride is at least possible.

Please note that I'm not some super-fan of Stephen King... there's tons of other IPs I'd rather see. I'm just saying that it seems like it might fit in the Monster's section, especially if they start looking to expand the area.

That's good to hear, since the Mummy is terrifying: two people murdered, several references to death, a walking corpse makes several attempts to kill the riders, and the ride features stereotypical phobias including the collapsing ceiling (claustrophobia), bugs, fire/explosions, darkness, and high speeds.

Sounds about right. I think the dreamworks properties up for use can produce amazing results of done right. A well done Burk, KFP, and Trolls village would do extremely well.

King just seems like a non starter at this point.

I mean, have things changed? Was he not on board back in 2000?

EDIT
To be more precise, I should have said "90's" as the year 2000 was already after they built MIB instead.

According to rumors, both Disney and Universal had considered using King's IPs for a ride. So one would assume he was at least open to discussing it? Unless they hadn't even brought the concept(s) to him yet? (Sounds like Disney wasn't that far along, but Universal may have at least spoken to him?)

Yea, I googled that after your post.

I've literally never heard of this before. I think if it was an actual concept, it probably never moved very far. King has been pretty firm on not wanting his properties in a theme park. HHN has tried to get him on board in the past, and there is just no interest.

SNW will be great, but it won't be an original land like Monsters will be.

I'm surprised DreamWorks is second and Fantastic Beasts is last. I can't picture DreamWorks being that good.

I mean, an HHN house is very different than a theme park ride. He could have wanted more money, he could have thought HHN would dilute his IP, he could have thought Jack was a ripe-off from Pennywise... I'd be curious to know his reasons for not wanting to be a part of HHN and if they would be the same for having a ride.

Honest question, why? The dreamworks properties scream themed land. Where fantastic beasts is just a generic city scape likely.

I would think a tamed down theme park ride would dilute a horror IP far more than a haunted house.

I'm anticipating DreamWorks being the biggest land in the park. I also see the potential for things like HTTYD, KFP, etc.

Fantastic Beasts will be good, but I think it's a mistake to base a land of it

You're right - I could see that being a reason. Though I meant dilute in sort of a different context I guess (regarding diluting his brand).

Fantastic Beasts is Potter, which has the best attractions Universal has ever done. You can be sure that the land will be great. Meanwhile, DreamWorks is a Universal-owned property with so many IP's within it. That could be a bad thing if they choose to do as many IP's if they can, or if they decide to go cheaper because they have no one quality-checking the land.

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but DreamWorks is my biggest worry for this park.
