Agreed, hopefully they have come to the realization that any new parks, especially in WDW will only cannibalize the visitor pool from the current parks. It will be interesting to see how SWL moves the needle at DHS and what effect that may or may not have for attendance at the other parks (mainly Epcot & AK)

That is exactly what the MK needs.

Edit: and I dont think disney is building a new park.

Question for the speculators: at what level of attendance in each park would Disney consider opening a fifth park? 15m in the 3 + the 20m at MK? Doesn't seem like you could hit 20m at any other park except maybe Epcot without major crowd/logistical issues?

International travel is poised to increase by something like 50%, or 600m people-trips/yr, in the next decade. With 70+m foreign & domestic visitors last year, it's conceivable that Orlando hits 100m visitors in the next decade, especially if the domestic economy remains somewhat robust and Florida continues to grow.

I guess what is far, far more likely is significant continued improvement at the 3 non-MK parks to get each closer to the MK level, where anybody (i.e. non-Disney fans) would feel completely satisfied spending an entire day there. I don't think that's true of any current park as-is and won't even be true of the Studios post-Star Wars, though I haven't been to AK post-Pandora.

But I'd love to know what Disney's true 'master plan' is for each park, e.g. if someone forecasts 5% YoY growth in Orlando and Disney has to plan for 15-20m in each of its parks. They would be insane to let all of that growth migrate to UOR.

Its gonna be great for DHS no doubt. I feel like those 2 wont feel anything to major just because epcot is epcot, and animal kingdom has always been ok and now even stronger with pandora, And we ain't even worried about Mk lol. DHS is the one that was in desperate need of attention. I'm also excited and hope to see expansions to pandora and swl in the future!

Disney World has 4 PARKS more than other in the world. It has more than enough to build out, mazmize and take advantage of with the current ones. What is with this false hope for a fifth or third gate at WDW and DL coming from ?

PS: Sorry for being off topic !!!

A third park at DL isn’t as crazy as a fifth at WDW. An amazing new park could help to pull people away from DL.

I think WDW getting a new park will solely rely on what Universal does. If Universal starts to convince people to leave Disney for a visit, another park is the only way to compete with that.

Well, for me at least, Universal has turned into its own visit. Its no longer feasible, or enjoyable, to try and do both during one stay. The only exception for us was a visit last year during Christmas week, but at that point our main goal was to see all the Christmas offerings and not necessary do all of the attractions.

Depending on how this 3rd gate goes, it could happen sooner than later, but it would have to really rake it in and have no major damper on the other 2. It would really be gametime for disney if they opened a 4th gate 5 or so years after this one. Isn't that what disney did with animal kingdom and dhs?? I Might be confused

DHS and DAK were both strategically opened one year before USF and IOA respectively.

I just believe international investment is their main focus now as far as new parks go. There were talks of one opening in the Middle East. New markets understandingly are good opportunities to make a ton of money.

It seems like Lord of the Rings would be a far fetched idea for a fourth gate. Their’s so many ideas that they could do with LOTR. Create rivendale, the shire, i forget the place where the hobbits live. I think they would do well in creating AA’s from LOTR too. Gandalf, Saruman, Legolas, Aragon, Orcs, Trolls, etc.

Why say you forgot where Hobbits reside, when you actually say where they come from? :oO:

Sorry just lost my train of thought for a minute, I don’t know why Lord of the Rings land is’nt a front runner for a fourth gate. I always thought it was popular enough to be created into a themed land. You know their was once a rumor of LOTR replacing Lost Continent I read an article from Screamscape but this was a while ago.

Well, I don’t really think it was Universal’s main goal. They wanted the IP, but either the cost was too high or the licensing was insanely difficult (AKA that Warner Bros. wanting their name on the park think from a while back)

Also, LOTR replacing Lost Continent? Damn, that would have been something.

Considering how much Amazon is shelling out for that IP, no thank you.

I'd rather want them to focus on developing quality than trying to get Lord of The Rings if it costs them a billion to get that IP.
