Thestral carts makes more sense to me than Sirius Black's motorcycle or a Ford Anglia. I can't see a whole line of Sirius Black motorcycles or Ford Anglias lining up on a roller coaster. There is only one Sirius Black motorcycle and one Ford Anglia, after all. Thestral carts, on the other hand, are made to do exactly what this ride calls for: transport large numbers of people through the Forbidden Forest simultaneously. And how cool would it be to have the thestrals momentarily appear when some atmospheric disturbance or spell temporarily makes them visible?

I don't get how people think this will be like Gringotts. Gringotts is two small coaster segments sandwiching Spider-man. This sounds way more coaster like.

I think it's more the fact the demo video from Dynamic Attractions is very reminiscent of what many people thought Gringott's was going to be when it was originally discussed years ago. I agree the SFX coaster is different and the theming will clearly be different from the demo video.

I think an SFX coaster compliments IOA quite beautifully... it's just a very odd choice for Potter, which already has Gringotts, is a bit of an odd medium to use for a Forbidden Forest ride AND from the demo video doesn't totally seem like a "Family" attraction.

Imperius said:
Seriously. It's an indoor/outdoor themed coaster. It will kind of like Gringotts, but hopefully better. Gringotts is like the mummy which is like another indoor coaster which is like another indoor coaster. Only so many ride types out there.

Absolutely, but there are more than 4 ride types. It's very complimentary to IOA which lacks this, but for the Potter park within a park... it just seems slightly redundant.

I'm sure I'm still going to absolutely love it though. Don't want to seem like I'm complaining, more just questioning the logic behind their decision.

Really hoping this isn't SFX. For diversity sake.

That said, JKR/UC/WB haven't let us down yet...

I have to admit I was kind of hoping for a Mack inverted powered coaster, for several reasons:

1. I am looking forward to a heavily themed ride with fewer (or no) screens and a lot more animatronics. I would like to be able to see these things rather than just glimpse them as they whiz by.

2. I like the idea of a ride that moves somewhat slowly through the forest in some areas and speeds up in response to a threat or change in terrain.

3. 63% of all Wizarding World fans (okay I made that statistic up), myself included, are hoping the new ride is neither something that makes us want to vomit (like FJ) nor something that goes so high that we're too afraid to go on it in the first place. Yes, I'm a chicken, but I'm not alone. I actually don't have a problem with motion sickness, so I have no problems on FJ. But a couple of the people I go to the parks with regularly do have motion sickness issues. (My daughter won't even ride the Simpsons anymore, and another friend lets me ride FJ alone.) As for myself, I'm terrified of heights. I did actually ride Dragon Challenge once and thought I was going to die. Never rode it again. I can't even do the Mummy, to be honest.

As much as everyone else here hates the excess use of KUKA coasters with screen technology, those are the rides all of us can ride without getting sick or having a panic attack. Yes, I'd like something new. But, come on, it's a Harry Potter property. It's time to figure out how to build a ride that everyone--of all ages- can ride without making half of them sick but that's also "thrilling" and interesting enough not to feel like a Disney ride.

I do see how more could have been done with Gringotts, coaster-wise. But if they go with SFX and the coaster has a drop any farther than the one in Gringotts (which I can handle, but just barely) or is anywhere near as likely to cause motion sickness as FJ, 63% of the other guests who would otherwise totally book a family vacation at Universal might consider opting out.

Does anyone have a link to a video (or even the name) of an SFX coaster that combines speed and thrill with a smooth ride, manageable drops, and slower sections where you can actually take in the scenery rather than having to spend all 5 seconds of it trying to prepare yourself for the next dance with death?

Why couldn't I be afraid of snakes or spiders or some other creature I'm unlikely to encounter in a theme park? Oh wait, they have those too (but at least they're not real). ;)

They said it will be a thrilling coaster experience in the blog post. No reason to expect anything less.

The dynamic doesn't have to be a 60 mph constant coaster I'm sure. It can slow down and take in show scenes then speed up and drop if needed. It won't be large drops like a standard coaster though I'm sure since it is still

So like the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, but more interesting? It's billed as a thrill ride and a family coaster, after all: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train | Walt Disney World Resort

Luna Lovegood was known to hang out with the Threstals. I'd love to have her in the ride. She would definitely come back.

I have a slight doubt that they are putting that word of Family Coaster very loosely. Perhaps it's just me, but I have doubts.

So they're replacing a high speed coaster with another high speed coaster? I don't get why they would do that in Hogsmeade, of all places. But THINK OF THE CHILDREN! ;)

Maybe they're doing a very vertical Shrieking Shack SFX coaster to make the coaster freaks happy without hogging up the entire area, while simultaneously adding a number of other attractions throughout the Forbidden Forest? Perhaps even something like the inverted dark ride Arthur for those of us who didn't care for Dragon Challenge and won't be riding any other high speed coaster built to replace it? (I can dream...)

I do have to admit the Shrieking Shack would be perfect for an SFX coaster, even if I'm not a coaster fan.

Queue should be the shrieking shack leading into a race through the forest on a full moon night and lupin is changing/death eaters are present and the only way to escape is through the forbidden forest.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Threstals are the worst way to go. The only way to see them is if you seen someone die and accepted it. Secondly have you actually read the description of how they look on Pottermore. They are hideous to those who can see them.

Which is why you wouldn't see them. It would look as if the carts were pulling themselves.

someone mentioned a spell allowing people to see them, however seeing something hideous and scary doesn't fit the family friendly that people been stating Universal needs.

It would be nice to still have them in the queue or even in the general public area outside the ride in the forest.

Well, if it's the SFX coaster, it won't be a line of them, as it's a singular ride vehicle.

Which, if it's a singular RV, is why I imagine the Anglia to be more likely than the motorcycle or threstral ideas. I'm picturing an RV similar to the size of Mummy and Gringotts if they go the Anglia route though. It'd be the only way to have it make sense imo.
