As long as they don't touch Disneyland's, I'm very ok with it. It stands in the way of a massive project for Magic Kingdom.

As for Tokyo, I'm excited that they're at least throwing it out there that they'll continue to invest into more additions.

Honestly, I'm okay with all this. I don't get the purpose of having a mint condition 1971 Magic Kingdom still sitting in Tokyo at this point when other parks have been able to evolve way past that.

These proposals are little shocking to me but seem on brand to where Tokyo is heading.

I mean looking at their Space Mountain project this definitely seems like wanting to further differentiate their parks from others globally.

Very ambitions plans I might add that would take years to complete if they ever come to fruition.

I guess (in terms of reception) it regards to 1) simply nostalgia, and 2) people generally not liking the changes to the Magic Kingdom in the US (a small minority are already unhappy of the subtle changes to Tokyo Haunted Mansion that implies that the Bride is the US’s Constance), so to them Japan’s version is basically “what the Magic Kingdom should be”.

Omg. How hard was it to book MiraCosta? Crazy how it sells out in seconds every 4 months no matter what.

It was intense. I practiced several nights in a row, both my partner and I had several browsers and devices going, and only one of mine got through almost right away to be able to select a room. I was trembling with nerves as I entered our card information :lmao:.

They were all gone within a few minutes. I did stay on after booking, and a room would open up now and again, up until about 11:20 am JST, and by then it was definitely done.

...I did not realize that it was this intense, and I was hoping to get a MiraCosta room for our honeymoon in April or May (haven't locked dates yet). Is there a site or guide you referenced on how to go about doing this/breaking down when rooms drop?

I'm not the person you quoted but I can tell you what I did! I had a few nights mid week in 2023 and was lucky/skilled enough to get a Porto Paradiso room. Just an incredible experience but man, what a hassle to book it. This was the article I referenced the most. I also had Safari and Chrome open doing the booking in parallel, made sure I was logged into my Disney account already, made sure I was connected to stable Wifi (at Disneyland when I booked funnily enough) and had multiple credit cards available in case the site didn't like one of them. The best thing I did that I'd recommend is to practice making a booking (the sheer ridiculouness of having to *practice* booking a hotel isn't lost on me). Two or three days before my actual 5 month mark, I logged on right at drop time and made a booking right up until I had to put in my card. That was a huge huge help and made my actual day as smooth as things can be.

This article, absolutely!! We got the same exact room/view when we went in November. Thankfully my chase visa was fine booking (I've heard folks have issues with some cards).

Loved our room & view. We stayed a night at Disneyland Hotel too, which also had a killer view. It's too large to share, but I really enjoyed both hotels!

Yes! What they said. That link. Practice. Change the date in the URL. Use multiple devices.

Our Toy Story Hotel booking tonight was just as competitive.

This probably won't come as a big surprise, but this summer will be the end of the road for Aquatopia. My wife and I weren't impressed when we rode it a few years ago, though its kinetic energy in the area will be missed. The real question is how ambitious the replacement attraction will be. That's a very quiet area of the park and so there's a big opportunity to add capacity to a park that is struggling to meet demand right now.

Got everything booked for a trip in October, 1.75 days (2/3 day in TDL and a full day in TDS). Booked as a vacation package to get some guaranteed fast passes and make sure we got to stay at Miracosta as well. Super excited.

What's everyone's favorite thing to see/do? We have passes for a lot of stuff but not everything so not sure what to prioritize.

Pooh and Beauty & Beast are incredible and cannot be missed.

Sindbad's Storybook Voyage is an absolute gem, and is among my top 5 rides in the world. Very cozy classic Disney vibes with it.

Vacation package is the right call. Take full advantage of the happy entry you get for DisneySea, especially.

Can't-miss stuff:
  • Journey to the Center of the Earth
  • 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (use the joystick when you hear the chime to control the searchlight!)
  • Tower of Terror
  • Sinbad's Storybook Voyage
  • Anna & Elsa's Frozen Journey or whatever it's called
  • Peter Pan's Neverland Adventure
  • Rapunzel's Lantern Festival
  • Fortress Explorations (worth just poking around for 20 minutes, even, so many cool vantages and activations)
  • Pooh's Hunny Hunt
  • Monsters, Inc.: Ride & Go Seek
  • The Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast
  • Haunted Mansion (theirs has some unique effects, some retro WDW scenes from the 70s, and also looks like it opened yesterday)
  • Country Bear Jamboree - it's the original show(s) with the original pacing (not sure if Jamboree or Vacation Hoedown will be playing); most of the dialogue is in Japanese, but most of the songs are in English. The animatronics look pristine.
  • Splash Mountain - again, it looks like it opened yesterday. Proof that the maintenance standards stateside are a choice, not an inevitability.

Cool if you have time:
  • Magic Lantern Theater - it's entirely in Japanese but easy to follow. The wait is rarely more than queueing for the next show, and there are some terrific performance tricks/illusions at play here. Feels very much like the park's Poseidon's Fury - late 90s/early aughts vibes.
  • Pirates of the Caribbean - very rarely has a wait so easy to just hop on when convenient. The Jack Sparrow stuff is here, but many of the other changes were never incorporated, so if you're looking to revisit the past a bit, this is a trip.
  • Soaring Fantastic Flight - gorgeous queue you'll barely see if you're wise and use priority access; the unique preshows are very nifty, and I enjoyed the Tokyo-specific finale, but we only did it once and felt satisfied. If you're short on time, I think it's skippable.
  • Happy Ride with Baymax - a delightful ride that isn't worth the massive waits it constantly generates. If you hit it in the early morning or with a priority pass, well worth it, but don't devote 40+ minutes to this
  • Nemo & Friend's SeaRider - perfectly pleasant simulator with a few neat gags, but nothing to write home about.
  • Raging Spirits - nowhere near as brutal on the body as Temple of Peril in Paris, and the scenic is much nicer. Still, it's an outdoor coaster. What you see is what you get, and your mileage will vary.
  • Mickey's Magical Musical World - this is the show in Disneyland's fancy new Fantasyland Forest Theater. It's the best of the "Mickey does a montage with a bunch of Disney movies" productions I've seen. If you have the time/need a break/can secure a seat, well worth seeing, but it's not unmissable.
  • Big Thunder - it's not the best Big Thunder, but not the worst, either.
  • Jungle Cruise - it's all in Japanese, but there is an indoor show scene exclusive to Japan. They also bizarrely have music cues blaring throughout the ride. A curiosity worth exploring, but not essential.
  • Enchanted Tiki Room with Stitch - in my opinion, if you have to prioritize an animatronic show, Country Bears is the better bet. This new production is very pleasant and entertaining, and the Stitch animatronic is a stunner, but it's tougher to fully follow with the language barrier, and overall there's less "oomph" to the thing.

Mark your calendar for dining reservations, as a resort guest you'll be able to make them an hour before everyone else when the time comes available. Magellan's was not only one of the best meals i had while in the Disney parks while in Japan, but one of the best meals i've ever had in ANY theme park across the globe. Truly unforgettable aesthetic and service in there; a literal must-do for anyone making the trip over there that has the time and money to do so.

Disneyland:
Pooh's Honey Hunt and Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast are going to get the most nominations, here, but i want to make a point to say:
--Splash Mountain - Not only the only one left in existence but it is in GREAT condition and made me miss ours greatly.
--Monster's Inc. Ride & Go Seek - my dream for a Luigi's Mansion ride with this tech has unfortunately doubled after riding this; That concept should have been built for EPIC yesterday.

Disney Sea:
The new Fantasy Springs stuff like Peter Pan's Never Land Adventure, Anna & Elsa's Frozen Journey, and Rapunzel's Lantern Festival but i'd still like to shout out:
--Sindbad's Storybook Voyage - went in with low expectations, came out with the biggest smile on my face. Why we don't have anything like this in a Universal park is beyond me.
--20,000 Leagues Under the Sea - just so different and enjoyable than the one from when we were kids. They took the concept and perfected it.
--Journey to the Center of the Earth - would go all the way back to Sea just to ride THIS again.
And you know what, Fairy Tinker Bell's Busy Buggies. If the wait is short, it's worth it. It's a cute little kid ride and sometimes that's enough! lol I want to say Tower of Terror because the pre-show and theming is on-point, but the ride was lacking any and all oomph that the States' versions of the same ride-system offers.
