Jason's existence has transcended well past the movies he has come from. Him, Michael, and Ghostface are by far the most iconic slashers in appearance, and most can recognize them even if they've never seen the films.

People will know who Jason is, he’s in mortal kombat, that other WB game and he had the Friday the 13th game itself which was well liked.

I’m out of the loop, can someone explain why it’s been 16 years since there was a Friday movie? You’d think we’d be getting movies every few years given how much money they could make

The rights have been in hell for over a decade following the Michael Bay reboot. Tons of legal battles to determine things with the Friday the 13th IP.

It was why Friday the 13th: The Game died in a ditch because of that in particular. And while things have now been settled and things have moved forward, especially as Jason Universe is moving forward with the A24/Peacock Crystal Lake series—films going forward seem to be near impossible.

To piggyback on this, here is some more high level details: the rights ended up in a legal battle between the screenwriter of the original movie, and the producer of the movies. Everything was frozen for a decade of battles. The writer won the rights eventually but only for the original movie and he is the one working with Peacock for the Camp Crystal Lake show. The movie producer owns the rights to the sequels. This is tricky because the well known mask wearing adult Mutant Jason was not in part 1 but his backstory is so it get's messy if they do not work together.

They may move forward separately on their own projects referencing what they own and if so we may get altered stories. Since the writer only owns part 1, he can only reference from that hence why Camp Crystal Lake is a prequel and sounds like it focuses on Mama Vorhees and may not include an adult Jason at all. Since the Producer owns the rights to the sequels, he could eventually make a new movie that does not reference the first movie at all. So it would have to be Jason with a new last name (or no last name) and different location names, etc.

All in all it is a very unfortunate situation especially since we are in a time where nostalgia horror sequels are doing very well.

I had thought the plan for Crystal Lake was to adapt the Friday films into TV, so that way they could've skirted around the lines and to allow them that flexibility again.

Yeah I have hard that rumor too so we will see. They have not really confirmed yet other than the actress for Mama Vorhees. It would be great if each season was an adapted movie.

I never much liked that idea, personally. If i want to go watch the movies' plot, i'll go watch the movies - I don't need them to re-do an 80 minute film into an 8 hour series, you know what i mean? I don't care about the people being killed or their backstory or their exposition so much so as to draw up that serious length of time required to constrain the plot as far as it would go. I'd much rather them do the Bates Motel thing and do the prequel and draw it out and bring it up to or right before the moment we expect Jason to come back and THEN just do a new movie - maybe even still with Linda as Pamela even in the film. Give us 2 or 3 seasons of Pamela getting away with murder before getting herself killed and pepper in little aspects of things we know like the Jarvis family and Crazy Ralph and Jason's possible survival and supernatural presence - then go back to movies. Let's not milk this unnecessarily when we know what the people are here for (Jason). I want this to be more Twin Peaks and less American Horror Story as possible.

I got confused which thread was for a second...

Even though the dust has settled on the F13 legal ownership battle (....for now), while the Jason Universe is now created, one has to wonder if a legacy house TCM style can actually happen

Can we have Pamela Voorhees? Can we have all the iterations of Jason? Or is it just "new jason" & whatever kills they create even if never seen on screen?

If they are going the way I think they are going—it’s a joint licensing with not just Jason Universe—but our good sleeping mate Paramount. The Paramount films go to the majority of the original franchise, and they should be safe for HHN use.

Pamala, Jason, both of them will be fair game if we are going in the most likely scenario.

Yup—the reboot might actually have a loophole to where they could use it, because it was do-produced and distributed I believe by Paramount (but I’m iffy on that). Otherwise, all those and FvJ (obviously) are off limits.

If they can do A Quiet Place, they can do Final Destination. I don't know if it would be a very good house - I think it would run into the Saw problem where most of the actors are tied up in set pieces rather than scaring - but it'd probably be a people eater.

Lot of victim scares, busses ramming into you...

I always thought it would be fun if death was personified in a Final Destination maze and looked like the skull from each movie poster

At this point I'd rather something like Final Destination over the reaches they've been doing recently for IP mazes
