Hi! I'm looking to work at HHN since it is my dream job but I don't know where to apply / email them. I'm not looking for anything too specific but being a set decorator would be nice.

My dream job would be to write houses at HHN but that doesn't seem easy to get. Any tips on how to get that high up?

Thanks in advance

Get a lot of experience writing and in show directing. The team that writes the treatments have done it for years and came up from the bottom. Mike started off as a writer for Bill and Ted after working as a scareactor and Jaws Boat operator.

It’s a lot of networking, talent, and luck to get there. If you’re passionate about writing haunts, start local.

Just want to emphasize this. If you want to get in a creative field, the best thing you can do is ... create stuff. Write stuff, draw stuff, take classes to get better at those things and meet people who want to do what you want to do. Create cool stuff with them, regardless of scale. If you keep doing that (and you're good at it and Not A Jerk) you'll be on the right path.

“Not A Jerk” is really a key prerequisite.

I tried to make a new thread about this but I’m not allowed to do that so I’m gonna post it here.

Does anyone know the platform they use to write houses at HHN Orlando is? And what platform is it for the layout on the right of the photo? I’m just curious.

The screen on the left just looks like a formatted spreadsheet to me. I'm not sure about the layout on the right, though I imagine it's not some sophisticated piece of software. Could be PowerPoint or Photoshop.

Thought I introduce myself, since Macready123 is new. I've been writing concepts continuously for more or less than five years, which I'm currently working on another house concept. The way how I make 'em on Google Docs is I simply don't try to be professional; just picturing things and incorporate what should require and/or think it's necessary, and that's that, so it can look planned out as possible. Craftmanship is mostly my way of building by words when I began working on the concepts, I started to follow the patterns that A&D had done before previously and do some sorta expansion or continuation as HHN fan content. I also took an advice from a quote by C.S. Lewis who once said to write something that interests ya. Otherwise, you don't have a purpose. Some I made were requests

I obviously wrote a Narnia-themed scarezone concept that revolves around Jadis The White Witch and the Stone Table, while setting between the first two books in the series. I'm also a fan of Nine Inch Nails, which I turned The Downward Spiral and Broken into haunted house ideas of mine. I'm all for making any of my concepts a reality locally, but I wanna meet the right guys at the right spots first to ensure many or almost everything is needed.

You can learn professional tools (and they WILL change), it's the process and connections you build that are important. A lot of folks think if they get That One Idea it'll bowl everyone over. Doesn't work that way. I'm not sure if @Macready123 is an orlando local or not, but workign the event is the way nearly everyone gets their foot in the door.

I also think beyond the obvious networking benefits of working for the company you want to work for in any capacity, there's a huge value to being on the front lines of one of these events. You don't have to be a performer, though I think that helps. Get involved in a haunt — figure out what the challenges are and how you as a designer could solve them. I think learning the performance/operational ropes (or both!) is a terrific way to become a better writer.

They write in any basic word processing program (typically Word). Their layouts are developed in CAD softwares (for a long time, they used SketchUp but I’m not if they’ve moved away from it.

Also you're there with these people. You can talk to them, make a relationship, ask them stuff, etc. I think Mike said he got the gig writing B&T because whatshisface stepped down and knew he was interested/prodding him all the time.

Once you're there to start a concept from idea to reality locally, doing something original is the best way to make 'em. Would love to use the IP's that I represented from my alt-universe of HHN, buts licensing costs a lotta money.
