My list of what I think the new park needs on opening day:
  1. A long, crowd-eating dark ride.
  2. A thrill-coaster that’s unlike anything else at Universal. Don’t build another Intamin Blitz or an indoor launch coaster. We’ve seen that already.
  3. An extreme water-ride that exceeds everything that has came before it.
  4. A thrilling dark-ride, but not a coaster. Something along the lines of Tower of Terror or Forbidden Journey would be great.
  5. A unique collection of flat rides. It’s 2018. There shouldn’t be your run-of-the-mill spinners and pirate-ships in a world-class theme park. Look at Aquatopia at TDS. Look at that interactive bumper-car patent you filled. Don’t just examine the options, make some more.
  6. An advanced simulator ride, something on FoP level. But only have one simulator ride, no more.
  7. An interactive shooter ride with a long ride experience and a unique mechanic. Like MiB, but better
  8. A beautiful nighttime show, mixing projections, fireworks, and possibly even live actors
  9. Plenty of play-areas for both children and adults, so everyone can get in on the fun
Some general stuff:
  1. Attraction variation. You can’t have too many dark rides like USF, but you can’t have too many outdoor rides, either. Don’t go overboard on the slow-moving rides. We need one wet water-ride, that’s it. No more.
  2. A sense of scale and height. USF or IOA don’t have any sort of sight-line icons. Everything is short/relatively low to the ground. I want mountains. I want tall castles. It’s stuff like that that makes your park one of a kind
  3. Exploration galore. I want to get lost in the lands you have created. To keep finding new things around each corner. That’s what gets me to buy two-day tickets
  4. A great selection of food that ranges across all major cultures. Burritos. Sushi. Pasta. The works.

From TPU,

Will Universal's New Theme Park Open In 2021 To Compete With WDW's 50th Anniversary? - Theme Park University

They seem to indicate that this is going to be very different, from any other Universal Park (and presumably anywhere). And that while not aiming for 2021, seems to be wanting to go against another Disney project in development.

Happens regularly. Usually in the KidZone or Nintendo threads though.

Just wait till someone brings up whether Star Fox, Metroid or F-Zero would be popular enough to bring to the parks lol.

The more than Just a Theme Park, pretty much screams they intend on having more than Gate 3 at launch, but other things.

As for the layout & Scope..that interests me.

Every layout that I can think of has been done somewhere else. How are they going to make this different? Are they going to build it on a mountain or something?

Maybe everyone’s thought regarding layers/levels isn’t just thoughts but actuality that universal has been thinking about. Imagine the immersive environments when each world is built 2 or 3 levels high blocking skylines. It will also make a park of 120 acres feel more like 200+. It could be the next evolution of the theme park community and the envy of all.

Or it could mean free beer year round, either way I’ll be there with bells on.

I expect multi level, vertical building. PhantasiaLand does that kind off well but they work from an existing park. If you build something new it could even be more intricate. I think the development of Nintendo World (an evolution from Diagon Alley) triggered the creative juices. In the end this will make the footprint smaller but adds entertainment value. It also helps creating shade, kinetic movement in the lands, sound barriers and ugly view lines from silly high carnival rides on Idrive.
I have been frustrated by Diagon Alley and all the empty space in the higher levels of the buildings that is unused (or doesn't exist but could have been build). What if you could actually sit and eat your ice cream at Florean Fortescue on the first floor watching the people below? Why not an upper level in Carkit to view the shows from with a nice beer.
What if there actually was a restaurant in Hogwarts at the top of the ride building instead of an empty shell. A magical elevator/floo powder fireplace to bring you to the top. No needs for real windows because of projections but it could add a whole restaurant on top of a ride if you add that to your design. The extra building costs will be offset by more space for hotel rooms, an extra boutique park etc.

I fully agree with this post, but calling the I-Drive attractions “Silly high carnival rides” is completely wrong. That’s like calling Falcon’s Fury a carnival ride. Yes, it’s not themed to your standards, but that doesn’t mean that they’re crappy rides. I, for one, am looking forward to each and every addition coming to Orlando in the near future, not just this one.

EDIT: A world that isn't exposed to the outdoor elements....a completely indoor world. Just another way of thinking multi-level. And on top of that world, is another one, but you wouldn't even realize it from the outside.

Going completely in with Multi-Level, yet highly immense and highly expansive would be a huge mark for the united states. Hell, if they go on a level larger than Phantasialand in this regard, that'd be a hell of a way to block sight lines.

My thoughts, is if IP's have been mostly locked for a while; it'd raise quite a few questions for projects rumored on the north.
