Visited USS for the first time today and I thought I’d share some thoughts here.
Overall, out of the big two theme park operators, USS is definitely the least impressive entry in either company’s global portfolio, maybe tied with pre-expansion WDSP. It clearly feels like a small “budget” park.
I finished everything I wanted to do within four hours. It’s in a rough spot where a lot of its attractions are either clones of less impressive Universal rides or unique rides that just aren’t very interesting. The IP selection also feels pretty weak and scattered for a modern Universal park: JP, Sesame Street, Transformers, Mummy, Shrek and Minions... No HP, no Nintendo (yet), no classic Universal films. I guess the one saving grace is if you’re a genuine Shrek fan (if such a thing exists?), because it actually has a legitimately well-built and detailed Shrek land.
The best attraction here is easily the JP River Rapids ride. There’s really nothing else I cared to ride a second time. Mummy feels like an inferior, lower-budget version of USF’s that also doesn’t seem to be maintained very well (the Imhotep animatronics look rough, and no fire effect in the fire room).
Also worth mentioning: Singapore’s insane heat and humidity make it a particularly miserable climate for a theme park.
If you’re a theme park fan in Singapore, I’m sure you’d rather have USS than not, but compared to other parks around the world, it really feels close to the bottom of the barrel.
