Monorail would be the most ideal transportation for me, but I just can't imagine that (or the tunnel stuff for that matter) being worth it for them.

Yeah, if money was no object ... well, that's a different conversation. But since it very much is an object, I don't see a solution other than "more busses more frequently."

Maybe they could consider a large slingshot or something

Keep in mind this project is technically being headed up by the special district, and is serving a specific need with its own restrictions. Being made up of representatives from universal as well as local residents and the county, I can see why they’d want to go with an option that keeps vehicles off their local roadways.

Doesn’t mean it’s the best option. Just that I see where they’re coming from.

As the southern property evolves though, and needs change, the transportation situation may evolve even further.

And to be clear, I think this perspective makes perfect sense. But the problem with their clogged roadways aren't resort buses -- it's single-occupant vehicles. They don't need a magic transportation solution for resort traffic, they need a general public transportation solution that gets cars off the road.

Yes, I know we're more likely to see a slingshot than a full commitment to public transportation in the resort area.

We’re looking at this all wrong: it’s an underground lazy river. They’re gonna use the water table to their advantage.

Rainy days=faster commutes!

Without going too far off the rails here, I strongly suspect Universal hopes that this decision will make the state and federal governments more favorably inclined towards the corporation in general and the theme parks in particular. If you view that as the primary motivation for this decision and the actual construction of an efficient transportation system as strictly secondary, the decision makes much more sense.
