As sure as I can be without owning it myself. Newman got the name as well as the property when he bought it. It was originally a part of the resort management structure, though.

I was thinking that they could possibly now build a hotel right next to the convention center and even connect it to the complex via elevated walkway (like the other hotels there). The difference is that the Universal hotel there could be a gateway to other new Universal hotels in the area, the third gated theme park, and to the current Universal theme park and resort area via an elevated fixed rail link. The property is also adjacent to where the Florida High Speed Rail was planning on building a station. So, there is also the possibility of tying everything in to a direct rail link to OIA that could get resurrected in the future. The rail link through the Universal resort area would need either more property acquisitions to bridge continuity from the traditional property to the Wet and Wild property to the ones most recently acquired or get an agreement from the local government to use right of way.

I thought that this would be the best thread to put this in. WDW1974 has said that a major announcement for expansion of the parks and multiple hotels will be coming in the near future.

If they plan on having some park announced like Beijing, it could make sense to announce a target date with some information about what would be for the 475 acres (announce it possibly by the end of the current business quarter, June 30th to show to some of the shareholders)

I think it's way to early for them to be saying anything about the new land. I doubt they even know themselves what all it will entail just yet. I'm more willing to bet it will be information on Nintendo and possible plans for the Wet N Wild site, as I'm sure we will see movement there soon after its closed.

I actually think that Nintendo may not be till 2018. At least, for Orlando. In a way, if they launch Gate 3 in 2021-2022, now would be possible to announce that it's in development and that more details would be revealed at a later time.

If you announce it here and USH's Iteration of SLOP before the earnings call; combined with the possibility of great numbers of USHHogsmeade & Kong, it'd possibly give the Shareholders more faith than what may turn out of Disney's current quarter.

At least, that's how I'd think as I can be wrong.

You could be right... I'm think more in terms of Nintendo's side of things though. They were the ones that pressed for the announcement last year. Had it not been for Nintendo wanting the news out there, we likely would still not know about it. The company has been hurting recently, so from their point of view an announcement on more theme park related things could only do them some good. And I will say, my only inside source (and I use the term source loosely, as all I tend to get from him are are statements so vague they make Teebin's look super discriptive) has said that the Nintendo additions are the most exciting thing to happen to the resort in his time their (and he's the biggest Potter fan I know, so that's saying something!)

And as for his comment about hotels makes my mind go directly to Wet N Wild as that's been the rumored location of the next resort hotel.

The park announcement would just be a huge attention grabber. And it usually consists of a concept map so vague that we all take our magnifying glasses out to try to figure it out so they don't even have to reveal much details.

Take it for what you will, but it seemed that when Wdw on Magic spoke about the hotel, he mentioned that something similar may pop up for USH.

If that's the case, then I wonder if they are planning to use a similar theme that'd be easy for development (would also make sense for if that previously rumored Tower is indeed the case).

Much like when Beijing was announced, it would be the best solution in my opinion for announcing gate 3.

Well, a third gate would certainly grab attention... Especially Disney's LOL. I'm sure they suspect it's coming, but an official annoucement this soon would be a shocker.

I'd actually argue that it wouldn't be as much of a shock as when USH announced the beginning of the Epic Transformation. That was an interesting day, to say the least.

I'd think they'd save the third park announcement for next year when Avatar is grand opening just to steal the thunder. Of course, they may not think that way.

I wouldn't expect a third park announcement until Universal gets some trucks on site to check out the infrastructure under the land that they bought. Too much potential for unforeseen problems to announce this early. I think they're likely to throw out more details about Fallon and other pipeline projects that are out in the open. Maybe one surprise attraction announcement.

I would not be super surprised for them to say, "We've purchased 470 acres for future development of a theme park, resort hotels, and an entertainment district." without going into more detail.

I don't think they would have bought the land if they didn't already have a pretty good idea what shape it was in. They were part of the cleanup efforts that went into it, as is.

I have no idea if they are announcing anything soon, but if the timeline is as aggressive as rumored, it would not shock me. The projects that eventually became IoA, CityWalk, and the Resorts were originally announced 5 years before they opened.

What do you think is the earliest we might have a 3rd park?

I've heard they want it by 2021, but I'm not sure how much I believe that.

I think 2022 is more likely, but this is Universal, so '21 is totally possible
