UKR has a vibe. It might not be for everyone, but I had a great time today. Heading back tomorrow with real crowds.

I honestly think that if everything had had the same level of theming that Del Mar (That is not incredible but at least its nice and enough) the impressions of the park would be more positive. Also I can't believe details such as the Brutalist Minions and other things here and there than could be easely improved with some painting and funny colors. With regard to Shreck, IDK what were they thinking about when they designed it.

Great pictures - if people just looked at these they'd think the park is great!

Another thing that isn’t getting enough attention, if any at all, is the inclusion of auditory/sensory accommodations specifically for those with autism. That’s incredibly impressive and I’m glad they made that effort. That kind of inclusion is something we need more of in the parks where able. Secondly, the bathroom design is well done and thought out. For those with kids, we know how painful it can be to potty train at home, let alone in a new place where they’re probably a little overwhelmed. Well done Universal!

This is something that really stuck out to me as well. I have a 5 year old son with autism, so seeing places emphasize things like this really wins me over immediately.

In general, when we took our son to Orlando, it actually felt like Universal's accessibility/accommodation system was better than Disney's. Both were great - but it really feels like something Universal tries to emphasize.

NY Post is mainly a tabloid, now if newspapers like NYT chime in, they might take that feedback a little more seriously.

It's a kiddie park, not the opera or the ongoing conflict in Freedonia. Granted I think everyone in NY is outside the target market for this specific park, but if this was upstate or in Cherry Hill, the Post's opinion would shape the target demo's opinion far more than the NYT's would.

Just looking at the art and I really don't get what happened the park just looks so....plain

Like I don't like the excuse this is made for kids...then where the heck is the passion? Like fine if its for kids but it does not look like it was made for kids

Kids like colors and they like grass and places to play, the park really just looks like its not finished yet

Really well done review and does a great job of balancing the two areas you wanted to highlight.

The two takeaways for me were they put a ton of thought into the experience a kid might have and that's really impressive. It'd be easy to just a cheaper version of USF/IOA, but instead they took the time to focus in on all the things a kid might need, think, experience, and I think that will go a long way to endearing themselves to the locals in North Texas.

The other one is the continued culinary journey. I've mentioned it in other posts, but Universal continues to make great strides in the F&B department and this seems like another step in that. Great stuff!

They also have had 10+ years at LLF (as well as experience at Billund, Windsor, and Carlsbad). This is just a bad faith argument from them.

You cannot be arguing that Universal doesn't know how to run a theme park and that LegoLand is the more experienced one, right?

Not a favourable local article here (granted they did not attend, which they mention at start)

www.dallasobserver.com

Universal Kids Resort promised family thrills, but delivered a $550M concrete carnival

Universal Kids Resort opens July 1 in Frisco, but the previews have sparked online backlash over barren theme design, no shade and lots of concrete.

It does read a little sour grapes, especially since they also raise points that could’ve been answered by a simple google search.

Hey Brian, that is a great review and you hit on some very important notes as your son was having the time of his life and that is something you don't see when you watch mediocre to bad theming.
What I mis is that you compare it to Pepa pig and Lego parks, so true (although I think most Lego parks are better themed), but non of those brands have a world class destination resort and that changes everything. Universal parks offer some of the best playing areas in the world like in Jurassic park, Seuss Landing and How to train your dragon. Higley themed but very enjoyable for kids, that is the standard this park (in my opinion) should be held to. Because in the end this is build to groom kids to want to visit Orlando or Hollywoord when they are older, and their parents should want to pay for that.

Looks like UKR has added a VIP Tour option to their website for a maximum of 6 guests, with up-charges for up to ten guests. It seems to start at $999 (not including ticket admission per guest) that includes a four-hour VIP guided tour, lounge access, snacks and priority access to rides. That price seems to be a bit steep.

I appreciate the read!

I get where you're coming from, but I think that's addressed in the article. Even before we saw the finished product, there were a lot of people saying to keep expectations in check because this was clearly a different type of project.

Whether that's because of budget, the city, corporate direction, or all three, this was never gonna be built similar to anything in Orlando or Hollywood.

Could the theming be better? Absolutely, but I also think some of the reaction is coming from people judging it against what they wanted it to be.
