Someone was already mean to me in the comments of that exact post, about how childless adults ruin everything. Except I’m a mom with a three year old so not exactly the right person to yell at about that

I think that the people who are annoyed at disney adults come in all shapes and sizes.

1) There are those who don’t like disney adults because they think they’re weird. This is a strange take for me.

2) There are those who don’t like the direction disney is taking towards this demographic- making adult only bars, etc. That’s a valid complaint. But they’re simply chasing the money.

But if we really want to look at disney adults… they do have a “problem”. But the problem isn’t “being weird”. It’s the majority of them have fallen prey to what most Americans and a large chunk of the west has fallen prey to- a blind consumer mindset.

Standing in line for 3 hrs for a figment popcorn bucket because you saw it on Tik Tok is just blind consumerism. That’s an issue from a philosophical perspective. But people don’t want to argue the philosophy of why blind consumerism is terrible for people… they’d rather label people. Such as “weird”. It’s easier. It demonizes. And it’s lazy.

Now- there ARE disney adults- mostly ones who follow a sub like this- that are just geeked about highly themed areas and rides. This is no “weirder” than appreciating architecture or art. What imagineers and creatives do is create amazing places to be admired. And that has no age limit.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to insinuate that you're doing anything wrong. I was more referring to the optics that can come with it, despite having completely good intentions.

Years ago, when I was much younger, a friend and I stayed at the old Nick Hotel while covering IAAPA. We were there for a legitimate reason and doing absolutely nothing wrong, but two guys without kids hauling camera equipment around a family-focused resort drew plenty of attention from security and police during our stay.

Sometimes it's not about what you're doing, but how it looks to everyone else.

I appreciate the post. And it's something I think about all the time when taking photos at Disney World or Universal Orlando. I try to be aware of my surroundings. And if it's an area loaded with kids, I leave my camera in the bag. My photo sessions at UKR will probably be early in the morning or at park closing. I'm not into making people uncomfortable.

Also side not for weirdos like us who publish theme park photos - there's a lot of great auto blurring tools out there now for faces and whole bodies in photos and video.
