I finally saw ride testing at UKR when Mr. DNA's Double Helix Spin fired up this evening. I can't post here without breaking the rules. But the video is out there.

Isn't the primary audience for this people who live within a five hour drive? I can't imagine there are many people booking flights to go to this, but maybe I'm off base.

What an exciting milestone!

It’s certainly positioned as a regional park, but even locals will start planning summer travel soon and may not have PTO to allocate for the trip they already had planned and a longer stay at UKR. Maybe they’re figuring local weekend visitors will be plentiful enough.

I’ve often wondered, why build a hotel for a more local-focused park but I guess Universal likes hotels.

Hotels can still be beneficial for regional visitors. Some might be visiting from in-state, but the park might be too far out from them for a day trip without overnight accommodations. The hotel theming, although somewhat minimal, will also likely have a draw.

I agree. We live about an hour and a half from Orlando, but once you add in I-4 traffic, that suddenly becomes a 6-8 hour round trip, so we always stay in a hotel when we visit the parks. I can easily see the same scenario playing out here.

Yeah, you’ve gotta think about the staycation families, too. I’ve got plenty of friends and coworkers who have stayed at the Legoland Hotel in Carlsbad despite it only being an hour or two away.

Yep. But I know several people who are anxious because they want a staycation in that hotel. DFW has over 8 million people. A 300-room hotel will sell out quickly.

And pricing, too. I know we’re trying to plan out the year and would love to know what annual passes will be, if they’ll have a “local pass”, and how much the hotel is per night.

Yeah - we're in an awkward spot because we're trying to plan a vacation around it and have been waiting to make a move.

Snapped a few pics on Sunday.
I have to say, the hotel is looking better from the highway. It was quite an eyesore a few months ago. Furthermore, I'm anxious as to what the Jurassic World discovery center will look like inside. Hopefully Universal will release some indoor concept art soon.

Episode 2 of the UKR mini series was released this morning! It covers the Jurassic World and SpongeBob lands in more detail.

This looks fun! Really reminds me of Camp Snoopy at the Mall of America. Nickelodeon themed now, but the name escapes me.

My kids will love this!

SpongeBob has been revealed. He'll soon be perched atop Jellyfish Fields Jamboree.

I can't believe that a Spongebob themed land is not going to have Krabby Patties. What a waste of potential.

I hate being negative, but did anyone notice the immense lack of theming on some of the attractions in that video? In their initial press release Universal stated that the park would be "set in a lush green landscape featuring immersive themed lands." I supposed to kids, this will be immersive, but it seems like Universal could have put in just a touch more effort?

For example, I snapped these pics of the same exact ride model themed to Spongebob two weeks ago when I visited Sea World Australia. This seems more in line with what I would have expected.

Perhaps that specific concept video was basic and there's more we're not seeing?

With that said, Shrek's Swamp, Puss in Boots Del Mar and Minions looks more promising.

I'm on your side but most people are going to point at other "kid parks" and say this is at that level or better

Hopefully they wont be done themeing until the park opens up and surprise us on the level of immersion
