Bedford Borough Council have released their response to the SDO - https://councillorsupport.bedford.gov.uk/documents/s77991/Item 03_AppendixE_Report.pdf

I've had a shallow read of it and the majority of it is them supporting the different facets of the project. There are requests for wording changes, but that's just changing 'may' to 'shall' which is the council wanting Universal to definitively do things the way they stated.

They do state there are valid concerns about traffic and it's impact, but there's no specifics about where and for which communities. Which feels like the council saying, 'we feel the mitigation efforts are suitable but there can still be concerns.'

They do ask for Universal to give thorough details of the education programs and what not but that's not really anything untoward.

In regards to construction worker accomodation, one officer recommended Universal build the accomodations. But the council would rather Bedford and the surrounding areas benefit instead as they feel Bedford can accomodate them as it is.

An interesting read, thanks for sharing!

Out of interest, is it expected that all the application documents will remain available online at the end of the consultation period, or should we be downloading copies now if we still want to refer back to them later?

I'd download them just incase if you want to peruse them post-consultation.

I went through the report and scribbled some notes, for me the key points were in relation to changes to Manor Road - pedestrianisation and also the Wixams Station appearing to be continuing as currently approved.

Same as in Beijing. The similarities across the Chinese and British parks will be numerous, I suspect.

I hope the design revisions have moved UGB away from what looked like Beijing version 2.0 in the concept art. Not so much bothered about the Hotel name, it's perfectly fine but the layout being almost a carbon copy of Beijing has long irked me.

You could also argue it’s the same as IOA though, no?

My guess is because the park was leaked and announce so early there’s was a scramble to get something together that was reasonably presentable for the sake of the public meetings and for discussion with governing bodies to obtain approval. The concept art for the park is a broad stroke concept and in a few years we’ll get a better rendition of what the actual park will look like. I believe they’re still figuring specific detail out, no?

I'm talking about it being an exact copy of the Beijing layout. Move the Hotel to the park entrance and replace BTTF with Transformers, put Potter in the Shrek/LOTR location and it's just Universal Beijing in Bedford.

Minions, Jurassic and Waterworld are in the exact same locations as Beijing, the vague top right corner is exactly where Potter is and the bottom left BTTF is where Transformers is.

The IOA lagoon design has me excited.

*edit*

I've long believed the same but some day's I get hit with a bout of pessimism that what they showed is what we're getting. Seeing the Hotel name being the exact same just caused the pessimism to come out. After a night's sleep I'll be back to thinking it's a bluesky mock-up and not the final product.
