@tommyhawkins - I'm pretty ignorant about theme parks (it's the Bedford angle that has hooked me). Does this mean that there is likely to be anything that I can pop over to of an evening (it's 3 miles from my house) for a meal/nose around with the kids (as I gather City Walk is)? Or will everything be behind a gate?

They said they wanted it open to the general public, not just ticket holders

I'm really looking forward to the seeing all of this in person, but can't help but think that all has not be revealed as such in the concept art, and we could be seeing another major area in the park, with a e-ticket attraction.

One thing that I think is lacking currently is a major indoor rollercoaster ride. With the cold snaps of weather that we get in the UK between December-February, I would have thought we would have a major indoor rollercoaster (simmilar to Escape from Gringotts, Rock n Rollercoaster or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind) that would massively help during the winter periods where the two major outdoor coasters may be unable to run.

Indoor Lord of the Rings coaster anyone? ;)

I'm seeing it now.

Exterior of Mordor with the iconic Barad-dûr as your iconic photo point. Interior being journey through Mordor coaster with screen sections and theming. Who needs Hogwarts castle? I think that would be your dark Universal Monsters-eque area of this park.

It would be funny to see Barad-dûr in the Bedfordshire skyline though. :lmao:

Mordor? Nah, Moria is the location for a indoor coaster, imagine it with a drop-track.

I agree but most people driving but not staying on site would probably be AP holders, Merlin gives free parking to all APs. I can't see parking being a big part of their business model as the park is served by public transport as its a different demographic for transport than Orlando.
I do think people need to remember the park is not getting a full blown city walk most of the stuff will be at the entrance just like toothsome is shown

I can’t decide if the hotel just has a huge extra wing nearest the car park, or if it’s actually a huge multi level indoor city walk. I’d be interested in a rough size comparison between city walk Orlando and the globe section of this planned park plus toothsome and possible multi level indoor city walk on the other side..

I believe that is "convention space"-- corporate events are a BIG part of the Universal business model.

I can just imagine cold raining hitting my face at 88mph as I soar into the gloomy English sky!

I submit: "Balrog's Flight" - Ride the Balrog as it swoops and soars through the Mines of Moria in pursuit of unwelcome intruders.

Ah that makes sense. I just haven’t seen any mention of convention or conference space so it didn’t cross my mind.

Just going by the similar spaces on the Orlando resorts, that would be my best guess.

Sort of, except here you'd be riding the creature so the ride would be more swooping, flying, soaring, rather than a mine cart feel, and you're pursuing instead of fleeing.

And I admit I unfortunately haven't been able to ride Escape From Gringotts so I can't comment much further, haha.

What if the Hill Valley are was themed in the retrofuturistic version of 2015? Or would you prefer the 50's version with the music and nostalgia?

If they have CityWalk the general public will have to go through security to access it. They won’t just let anyone wander in and out. I guess this matches all others around the world.

if the food places are outside the park you wouldnt need to have a ticket or an Annual Pass, you only have to worry about parking. its just a question of whether it costs to park and how much, that was the discussion about cost

First thought was its a restaurant (blue dragon) then i thought double restaurant because its twice the size of blue dragon but its very much attached to hotel, so my money is on convention hall because on my layout its nearly 80,000 sq ft

On the CityWalk front. Unless you're already visiting the parks, nobody is going to go there. Paying whatever for parking when every retail park is free parking.

I can imagine quite a few of us locals would want to go there for a meal or some beers. If having a few beers I'll just get a taxi.
