Nintendo has a loooot of IPs. If they don’t want to cannibalize Orlando, they could still use Nintendo without using Mario Kart, Yoshi, DK and Zelda. Not even counting Pokémon, they could have made a ride based on Mario Land/World, Luigi, Animal Crossing or Smash Bros. I can understand that Universal wants guests to visit both resorts, but they also run the risk that people either can’t afford or don’t see a reason to pay for both, and are forced to choose one over the other — or pick one first just because it has the IPs they like more…

On weather - Southern UK is surprisingly dry, and it's not unusual for there to be water usage restrictions ('hosepipe bans', but even washing your car is often not allowed) in place. eg -> Where are hosepipe bans in place and how can I save water?

I'm going to wager a guess and say yes. In the concept art the mockup of what appears to be the Minions land the showbuilding looks a lot bigger than is needed for Minion Mayhem.

I for one am kind of glad they are not cloning the Super Nintendo World in the UK park. Sure, the aesthetics are great, but the current rides itself in the land aren't among the best rides Universal had built according to the many reviews.

Put this another way, what could possibly build in Florida for Harry Potter that is as recognisable to mainstream as Gringotts, Diagon, Hogwarts & Ministry of Magic. hogwarts express? The answer is not too much.

I think the question is what HP-related land could they build in the UK which doesn’t replicate what they have in Orlando, for fear of reducing demand for visiting those parks. Not that I think Universal will do it, but they could build a proper Hogwarts. What we have in IoA is an external facade hiding a show building, plus an elaborate queue which wanders through internal and external scenes within the school. I think that there’s an opportunity to genuinely explore Hogwarts School in USGB by making a land which is just the school itself, not Hogmeads. The land would be mostly indoors, set actually in the school (so it would be under cover for all the right reasons) but can have outdoor parts where you explore the school grounds. There’d be endless opportunity to explore the classrooms, corridors, moving staircases, the House common rooms, eat in the Great Hall, the tent pole attraction could based around the Chamber of Secrets, magic shows in the Potions Classroom on the scale of the Ollivanders show, Argus Filtch’s emporium of confiscated magical oddities, a C-ticket ride through Prof Sprout’s greenhouses, etc, etc. It would be unique within Universal’s theme parks as the only place where you genuinely step inside the principal location which features in all the HP books. And for those people who love it, there’s more like this to explore in Orlando so if you want to spend time in Hogmeads, Diagonal Alley, take your first ride on the Hogwarts Express, accompany Hagrid on a wild ride through the Forbidden Forest, then all you need to do is save your galleons and apparate across the Atlantic…

As I said, it won’t happen as I think the WB rights issue is the serious stumbling block, but if they could get the rights I think there’s still plenty of creative space in the Wizarding World franchise to create something which would attract fans from across the globe and not cannibalise attendance in their other parks with Wizarding World lands.

Confirmation that national government will be the relevant planning authority rather than the local council, but no indication about what mechanism the government will use to approve the planning application, such as a Special Development Order or some other mechanism.

It's the same size, everything in that land is the same building shape and size. The masterplan i have made is to scale for the whole park. They might choose to put something else in that building but unlikely. I wish Sing had a ride as tjouse movies are so successful here personally but unlikely

A dark ride that takes you backstage at the theatre and you are following the acts as they get ready and then the big finale has you emerge into the theatre with "I'm Still Standing"... I'd love that. Maybe some sort of guitar hero-esque ride vehicles where instead of shooting things you have to help all the acts rehearse by playing in time with the different songs?

On the CityWalk front. Unless you're already visiting the parks, nobody is going to go there. Paying whatever for parking when every retail park is free parking.

The pricing for this park is going to be interesting as Brits won't put up with overly inflated pricing.

That would be a dream come true and draw crowds from all over the world for sure.

Alas, it does not do to dwell on dreams, Harry, and forget to live.

I will take Dumbledore's advice and focus on looking forward to whatever we do get and meanwhile keep saving for Florida.
BTTF rollercoaster is the thing I'm most excited about as I adored that ride, the inclusion of that IP really took me by surprise, in a good way. Jurassic world is also great as my dinosaur-obsessed sons will love it but I expected that. We must be getting LOTR or something big surely to make up for no HP or Nintendo, the area that looks a bit like Shrek does not look finalised.

There's not much by way of nice local retail park competition.

Rushden Lakes is very nice, but a drive from Bedford. Interchange retail park is nearby but I'd classify it as functional rather than enjoyable.

I'd definitely pay to park and go there, but perhaps there's not enough local population for that to be viable.

I do wonder when universals global theme park rights to HP expire. Rowling would have a lot more power when those agreements are nearing the end as to what gets built where and when.

There will likely be a lot of local residential development soon to provide accommodation to future workers at the park? Perhaps that will include retail estates too.

I agree, it's just a pipe dream, but I just wanted to make a counterpoint to the argument that the creative space for Wizarding World lands is exhausted. I don't think it is.

I think that Universal can make a highly immersive, deeply themed land and attractions from whatever IP they choose. They could also go cheap and make something which is, shall we say 'Merlin standard', if they choose, perhaps in the mistaken belief that they are protecting the golden egg in Orlando. Obviously I'm hoping for the former approach, not the latter approach, which I think would limit attendance in Bedford if visitors perceive it as a lower standard. I'm sure that Universal could create an amazing BTTF land with an amazing coaster as the centrepiece attraction, but I despair when I read people hope that they are going to resurrect the BTTF motion simulator of yore. I sincerely hope that Universal Creative don't take that kind of approach. Mark Woodbury, when it was President of Universal Creative, said that everything the company does has to be better than what they have done before. Now that he is CEO of UDX I hope he lives up to that very fine ambition.

That might depend what else gets built there. People might go to shop, or for other entertainment offerings, not just food.

They could offer limited parking validation for people only there to use CityWalk (£2-5 to park for just a few hours, for example) as that's pretty common in the UK.

I agree Minion Mayhem is visible, but who’s to say the facade is similiar but the ride could be a dark ride? I still have my hopes up tbh.

Oh I completely agree, the IP is not exhausted at all. Chamber of Secrets ride would be brilliant. As much as I try to be realistic I won't be able to stop a little part of me hoping that a HP land could happen here one day. In the meanwhile I am really looking forward to the TV series.

With regards to your second point I hope, and do think, Universal will do every ride and show we get to the best of their ability. Like you say they did say they will do everything better than what they did before. How Universal UK will be better than Epic Universe I don't know, seems like a very tall order right now. But it would make no sense to make Universal UK sub-par to not cannibalise business from Florida. Disney didn't take that approach with Disneyland Paris, they copied all the best castle park rides over and in fact tried to improve on them, for example DLP's version of some rides like Big Thunder are regarded as the best.

to give you an idea of how big the building is, here it is, with a comparator of ET building below

I agree but most people driving but not staying on site would probably be AP holders, Merlin gives free parking to all APs. I can't see parking being a big part of their business model as the park is served by public transport as its a different demographic for transport than Orlando.
I do think people need to remember the park is not getting a full blown city walk most of the stuff will be at the entrance just like toothsome is shown
