Either way, they are talking about games and this is a film. The two are not necessarily the same.

The next game is basically confirmed to be something completely new. Maybe still open world but that’s it.

This doesn't seem to suggest they are deliberately moving away from the elements of BoTW/ToTK, just that the next Zelda game will be a subsequent new entry as usual. I think it has been generally presumed for a long time now there wouldn't be 3rd entry in this story. I still expect that many of the mechanics and ideas introduced in those games will carry over, as is pretty standard with this series.

This part makes me glad, as it sounds like they’re shooting to keep the tone of the series. It should be similar in tone to something like Star Wars or Harry Potter
