Can the facial recognition tech Universal has be used as a counter measure to people buying up Pokémon trading cards if they have packs that are exclusive to the park?

There is no way on this earth they want to deal with the pokemon investing culture and the behaviors involved in that space. I don't even think Pokemon Company will even allow it. they sell backs and the collectors buy the entire inventory in two days leading to people not able to get cards for month especially if someone made a trip down is just bad business i wouldn't want to touch.
I’m not aware of this being an issue at the Japan park despite that implementation being 100 percent food and merchandise. Just institute a transaction limit on merch and go hard after scalpers. Disney has started to do this and been pretty successful.

We get it. Pokémon is popular. Yes, clearly scalping is an issue for the cards at retail stores. And any limited edition or exclusive merch will be vulnerable at the parks to this kind of activity. But I feel like we’re bordering on hysteria here.

They do have issues. But to get around it, for things that are limited quantity they make you get a time to shop and then you have 10 minutes to shop and they scan your pass to keep track of all the things you bought. Its a strict ten minutes to. However even then its hard because all the times slots are gone within two hours of the park opening. (For reference this is hamikuma merch which is USJ's biggest merch seller).

They remedy it but allowing you to buy things they don't have in stock though through the online merch store which allows you to buy park exclusive merch as long as you are in the park online and they ship it to your home (As long as you live in Japan). However, i don't think that is as feasible for IOA.

I do agree with @Mike S on one portion - I can see the crowds being genuinely nuts for this.

Not out to the parking garages nuts - but maybe out past the lighthouse nuts.

Yeah that’s what I’m expecting. Maybe it’s also at the point where the line is so big that to enter the land you have to go through the left side of the park rather than the direct route through Seuss.

Probably not beyond the opening day. I think you are starting to blow things out of proportion now...

We’re talking about the biggest IP in the world. Yeah it probably wouldn’t last like that for long which I’m pretty sure Potter didn’t either after a month or two but it’s entirely possible to happen.

Does anyone here remember exactly how long the line for Potter forced you through the left side of the park? I remember it on opening day but it was gone by the time I went later in 2010 but I can’t remember exactly when that was. Either that or it just wasn’t as crazy but they were still making you use the left side.

As a little bit of a detour, do we have an ETA on when Mythos dies?

VVVV Thank you!

They only said 2027 so far, right? No month or season even?

The real question for me is are we finally going to get a new ride system that actually raises or matches the bar for universal that isn’t a scoop or Kuka ride. If ministry or Mario; both ambitious, couldn’t quite get there- I’m not sure if Pokémon will.

I desperately want universal to give us a premier, top level attraction with a different ride system that isn’t a coaster or a 16 or 27 year old ride system.

I don’t care what the IP is.
I don’t care what type of downtime we have the first 2 years of operation.
I simply want creative to wow us.

I'm actually better than ever on theme park rides. After my cataract surgery gave me perfect vision for the first time in my life, I don't get any motion sickness at all, even on the rides I previously did. And, after the broken femur and hip I had 18 months ago, I don't have any significant issues. The only issue is contracted out Universal security still gives me grief over my titanium metal beeping even though I show them my medical implant card. Their scanners are so archaic. Everything is fine at WDW and local festival security. Never beeps there....... The only thing missing is I can't run like the wind when I was still playing club soccer last decade. Four decades of playing for up to three teams at a time wore my knees down.

My last trip to Disneyland I was doing my usual speed walk and my (all teen) kids had to point out to me that someone was actually walking faster than me for the first time ever. Which made me attempt to go faster (as our motto is “no one ever passes us”) and he was still faster walking. Wasn’t a great feeling :lmao:

Call me weird but because of my time following gaming circles and all the recent things I’ve seen, but I’m more inclined to ask for amazing execution over fancy bells and whistles. These two seemingly separate things are actually very comparable right now as many gamers will tell you even with all of our advancements it seems more and more huge games come out as buggy unoptimized messes. Compare this to how Epic Universe has launched. I don’t know if this will be controversial or not but when it comes to a Pokémon ride all they need to do is a standard bus bar dark ride with top notch set design and animatronic figures.
