WTH is going on in DAK? I mean seriously. The place is literally falling to pieces...

A light pole falling over in constant 20-30mph wind for two days? Not surprising. The news made it out to be some sort of catastrophe.

Ummm. No. It is surprising. I'm sorry, but that shouldn't be happening. Florida is a stinking hurricane state. Light poles should not be randomly snapping. Especially a light pole that is over a ride path.

To clarify, the story is that it wasn't an attraction phone pole, but a utility light which could range from a plug in unit to a gas/diesel powered device. Rumor had that there was a picture but no one has found it yet.

It wasn't a utility light. It was a pole that snapped. It was "themed" too look like a simple lighting stand, but it wasn't a plug in.

You have no problem with stuff just breaking and possibly killing people do you? First it was the Tree, and that was no big deal and now this. You have to admit something is not right.:inquisitive:

There is a saboteur in the wings, I knew Roddy wasn't working at Disney for real, he's a Universal spy making things break at DAK

Yea, seriously. I get that he works for the park, but there is something serious going on with DAK.

Serious enough for the words "major structural work" to be whispered about.

If it's wind-related, then it's not surprising. Should it be happening? Of course not. Should Disney go through the rest of the attractions and evaluate the structural integrity of props and items that are susceptible to wind? Of course. Will they? Probably not to the extent they should.

Look at this kid. Apparently I don't care about people's lives.

No, it's definitely a problem, but the fact that a light pole fell over in the wind isn't the end of the world. It's not that it isn't an issue, it's the fact that the tree was 14 years old and nothing had fallen yet. The thing was built like a tank, but even tanks rust over time. The light pole scares me more than a small branch falling, simply because a light pole doesn't have nearly the same amount of wind resistance as a 5lb branch does. I'd like to see Disney go through their attractions and the resort as a whole every April to make sure that they're ready for a potentially busy hurricane season, but it won't happen.

Just keep him away from Dinosaur. There's enough problems there.

To think I'd put a guest's life in danger is absurd and insulting.

Listen kid you can argue it all you want and try to make me look like a jerk but I am calling it like you said it. You blew off the Tree Limb first and now the light fixture like its acceptable. Its NOT! This kind of stuff should not be happening I assure you. This is a result of cut corners, mistakes, and overall unacceptable standards and last I checked people can be killed by stuff like this.

If this was a stand alone incident than it would just be one of those freak things that should not of happened but did and we could all be grateful. But the fact that this happened in the same resort, the same park and it was also structure related that took place in an attraction where the main building actually has interior structure issues all the time to the point where it won't be repaired. Then you also have the park's icon with an unexplained falling chunk that could of killed people as well. All those together are making things look pretty bad and neglected.

People should look to DL's Pressler era and all the little things that caused big issues.

You calling people "kid" is amusing, but I agree that this is not acceptable. I too work for WDW but I'm not going to excuse toppling branches and light poles. I agree that Brown that, yes, even tanks fall apart in harsh conditions, but you and Skip nailed it. When a park is deliberately places in the middle of a hurricane state, regular maintenance is expected. Working for WDW (and Uni, for that matter), I want to make excuses for them when things go bad. But while I am an employee, I am also often a guest. And it could have been me beneath that branch and light pole, or some kid, or anybody. I can deal with a broken Yeti, missing mist, and what have you as those don't have the potential of killing anybody, but this is a different case entirely that goes beyond park integrity.

Your argument is crippled by your need to call others "kid" in dramatic italics.

To be fair, he was echoing Dr. Brown's statement:

I worry that some of you here are overreacting a bit to the two recent issues at AK. The tree is 14-16 years old depending on how you cut it. It has been through at least two hurricanes, and also has endured flat line winds repeatedly every year since it was built. That is a pretty good track record. I truly believe that it has been discovered that every end branch connection is wearing out far sooner than projected, and thus the nets went up while they come up with a total solution.

The light post. It could be any freak of manufacture, including bolts, base plates, concrete pour, wood. Do you know why it fell over; what failed? I don't. Disney doesn't make bolts, base plates or own a wood mill. Has Disney ordered that all lights on poles be taken down throughout its parks? I doubt it.

The two are just an odd concurrence of events and does not reflect on the overall build quality of AK. When ride effects fail and are not fixed, please eat Disney to pieces, shred them. When it comes to out of doors, cut them some slack.

Oh, I'm not excusing it. My point was that it wasn't just one of them.
