If I'm not mistaken, there's fans too. So that would be a strobe light and fans.

Out of curiosity, when did it become acceptable to have to wait 10 years for an essential show scene to be made operational? I don't care if there are plans. 10 years is unacceptable. And the longer it remains unfixed, the more likely that it will never be fixed.

No way in hell is a day at DAK worth $90. Would someone see a play/movie/sporting event without a finale? Everest is no different.

If that is your definition of what is acceptable, so be it. Probably most guests, however, would fine a complete lack of Everest during their long-planned and expensive trip unacceptable. Fixing that yeti is not going to be cheap or quick. DAK has pulled its own weight as far as guests are concerned. Lion King is highest rated show, Jammin' Jungle is the highest rated parade, and Everest is one of the top attractions of the resort, much less solely Animal Kingdom, whether or not you boycott it. It seems they just don't want to ruin a good thing until they can have a flashy new something to alleviate guests complaints.

When and if Avatar Land is open, Disney won't be so afraid to close this down.

Honestly though if you ask your average Joe they're not going to realize the yeti doesn't move. Our brains are quite good at screwing ourselves over.

But JungleSkip was right, guests' ignorance doesn't justify laziness. I don't like Disco Yeti one bit but I do understand why Disney is waiting out the repair to make the most financial sense out of it.

Yea. I mean I get their reasoning. It just isn't sound reasoning. People aren't going to stop coming to WDW if you close a ride for a while. Will DAK's attendance dip? Possibly. but those displaced people will go to MK, EPCOT, or DHS another day. And if not, they'll knock a day off and spend more money during their other days. All the money will be going to the same place. Unfortunately the WDW management culture doesn't see it that way, and that's the problem. It's an internal competition, not a "for the greater good" of the resort mentality.

I don't think anyone likes it. But you're at a theme park for all the wrong reasons if it means you can't still enjoy Everest.

You can still enjoy it, and feel cheated at the end. Like the movie Signs.

Yea. The ride has always been a flawed design, but with the Yeti working it was still a pretty good Disney experience. Without him it's a decent coaster with minimal theming. I still have fun on it, but I don't get off the ride thinking "that was a Disney attraction".

Look at Universal with the Trex in JP, when it was down and IMMEDIATELY following Spring Break last year, they took the ride down and fixed it.

Disney should have immediately fixed this issue and not waited so long because "OMG we have people coming to the park we can't ruin this now"

Its a stupid way of thinking, if its broken, they need to fix it, PERIOD. I wonder if Joe Rohde thinks this way as well, or he just has to shut up and follow the company line? His vision, and the only ORIGINAL new ride that has come to the parks in YEARS is sitting in shambles.

^^^Love it. And this is the exact thing I'm talking about. This company was built on smart, sound, rational guidelines to make it the best it could possibly be. Forgoing them cheapens the place, and cheapens the hard work of the people that put it together.

I think Jungleskip and Briman are right on the money here. If the highest touted and marketed part of your attraction breaks, you don't politely sweep it under the rug and hope nobody notices. Yeti was an integral part of the story for the ride and was also a big part of the INITIAL draw and marketing of the ride, not so much anymore. Now, I don't think Everest is much thrilling, to me it's basically a tamer version of BTMR, but I still enjoy it. It's still a good ride, but it really does feel like it's missing something with the Yeti close to nonexistent now, all you can make out of him are his outline/shadow and his claw. With the lessened strobe effect I wouldn't be surprised if most people thought it was just a camera flash for an on-ride photo in that section. Long story short: Sometimes you need to make sacrifices in order to achieve greatness. Is it unfortunate that EE will probably have to close if Yeti is to be fixed? Yes, of course, but it's better to have a ride close for maintenance, than to have it run without it's main character and star. Having the Yeti down hurts the ride's theming and the overall experience (at least, to me it does).

This is no different as to when the board was up in arms about the condition of the Hulk. We weren't talking about the ride experience, but the cosmetics of the ride. With Everest, the ride experience is altered, which to me is a bigger no-no.

*random ramblings ahead*

I was a bit disappointed that the majority of the coaster is off the mountain or "inside" (hurray darkness) the mountain -- and a very tiny percentage is actually on the mountain -- but the difference between Matterhorn and Everest is that Everest is much nicer to look at it. It's beautiful. And if there was track tunneling through it all over the place we wouldn't have that.

Oh, when you're not on the ride it looks nice.

But when you are, it's not very well themed at all. I'd take a better ride experience any day of the week. Probably why I don't mind FJ's show building all that much, or when I see HM's show building.

Actually that is exactly what is happening for me. I'm going to Florida with my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew. He's never been to Magic kingdom and is obsessed with trains, but, because Big Thunder Mountain is down, we're just going to pass on it. All of this construction has made my whole family reluctant to go to any Orlando park this year, because we know it'll be better next year.

I realize I am not the norm, though, because most people aren't up to date with everything Disney-related. To which I say, a lot of people are really stupid to be so unprepared for a vacation.

Oh, you mean 99% of anyone's time spent at Animal Kingdom?

I tease, I tease. I love Animal Kingdom.

I'm sorry, but when is the last time you were on BTMR?

No, it's not the most thrilling. I'd put Space Mountain and certainly ROTM ahead of it, but it is not BTMR. BTMR is great for a variety of reasons, but being thrilling isn't one of them.

I remember I shamelessly plugged the site one time when Space Mountain was down and a guest was expecting to ride it first thing.

Little Joey - Dad, I can't wait to ride Space Mt!
Father - We'll go straight to ride it first, or get a Fast Pass.

Me, Trolling - Sorry to be nosey, but the ride is closed.

Family - WHA?!??!?!

Me - Yea, it's closed for repair and such.

Dad - How do you know?

Me - Well for one, I live here and come here often, but more importantly, I run a website devoted to Theme Park News. You should check it out next time you are planning to come here.

***and scene***

Point is, people should check out what rides are down if they are anticipating to experience their favorite attraction when they visit.
