This is what I thought before as well. Originally it was rumored that engineers greatly underestimated the Yeti's thrust and consequently his foundation was deteriorating. And with that Disney engineers could not gain access to his structure without closing the ride down for a significant time period due to that structure being so closed in within the other two (track and mountain) structures.

That's exactly what I heard. Could it be a combinatino of the two dilemmas?

I head the foundation was mainly the issue as well. Kinda creeps me out, when you think about it. I'm just picturing the yeti falling and crushing a bunch of people on the coaster.

At least disco yeti is pretty hilarious.

I've definitely seen both listed as the problem. So I really don't know for sure, but I don't think we ever will

A lubrication problem doesn't take 4 years to solve. Also, when they say the foundation has cracked, they don't mean the foundation beneath the Yeti... they mean the foundation beneath the thrusting machine which starts about 4-8' feet behind the yeti and the machine continues another 4-6 feet back. Think of the yeti as one of those antique tap dancing puppets on a stick that you have seen but instead of a stick think of a car lift at a service station only horizontal.

Warning... this link is very very obnoxious but the best I could find. Just bolt the tap dancers feet to the ground... that is the yeti... sorta kinda.

Just happened on this video with an incredible James Bond style soundtrack. Posted here as this is the most recent discussion re: EE and I figured I would post it here. This was created prior to the yeti fail. I think the music really perks it up... would love to hear it while riding.

Scrub to 1:18 to skip the rubbish.

Everytime I see this thread get bumped up I always have that slight hope, is it working? Then quickly its robbed from me and I go back to my normal day to day yeti-less life. :mean:

The reason I went looking for a video was to refresh my memory of how close to ground level the yeti is and more importantly, the massive machine that pumps the yeti backwards and forward. I would say it is about 20'-30' on a steel frame that is mounted on a concrete pad instead of the deep concrete posts they set for steel coasters. If it is on posts then I would say that the Engineers didn't get a chance to watch the Mythbusters episode on Tesla's earthquake machine.

Personally I think they should just rename the ride Disco Yeti and change the storyline to fit that.

I just read through this whole thread. Are there pictures anywhere of the mountain's unfinished side from the parking lot?

Always search google images first! They are everywhere.

Funny to see that even the back berms are shoddy and weed infested.

I was there last weekend, You can BARELY see the Yeti now. It's pretty much a camera flash when you near him instead of strobes now....might as well make that area dark....my younger cousin had trouble seeing him and even my uncle commented that he had trouble making him out. WTH Disney???

It's mistakes like these that make me question Disney desginers. I mean they should have realized this would be a problem when they were coming up with the idea. I am glad I got to see the Yeti in action when it first opened. It's a nice ending to a rather tame coaster.

That's lame. Without the yeti it's not a very special ride. He's really the big attraction, imo.

Well a) this isn't from the parking lot, this is taken illegally from a backstage vehicle. b) "even the back berns?" I hope you aren't implying the rest of the park is "shoddy and weed infested." Because DAK is one of the most engrossing and detailed parks there is. c) That Yeti really does need medical attention. I'd put my money on his repair happening closer to Pandora's debut or if not shortly after.
