Is Everest still a good ride without the Yeti moving? Absolutely. Is it a great ride in almost any theme park? Of course. But the point is, in its current condition Everest is not a great DISNEY attraction. Disney isn't about good enough. They don't worry about who will notice and who won't . That's not who they are. Disney already is the bar, but they strive themselves on raising themselves even above that level. That's why people love Disney and are so passionate about it. It is all about the principle. Disney changed the game and built the most impressive AA ever. Now they must bite the bullet and find a way to keep up with it. Disney needs to be Disney. No matter who it bothers or how much it costs.

Those are the people who ride with their eyes closed

Its pretty dang hard NOT to see the Yeti.

Possibly true  Although I think that, if you don't know where to look, it could be quite easy to miss the yeti in disco mode. Last time I rode the strobes didn't turn on until you were just underneath him so unless you were looking right at him, you would have missed him.

That is the problem right there, it's Disney themselves that say they are the best and set they're own standard so high, so this has come back to bite them.
I can't remember if I've mentioned this before, but I was reading a book about Imagineering, that my sister got me for Christmas and in the introduction Marty Skylar mentioned "Mickey's Ten Commandments". Number 10 was as follows:
Keep it up! (maintain it)
In a Disney park or resort, everything must work!
Poor maintenance is poor show!

I know this is more than a case of bad maintenance but it still made me laugh when I thought of disco yeti.

You could also say this is a case of be careful what you wish for. Disney wanted the most complex and impressive AA in the world. Problem is, they weren't ready to handle it and maintain it.

Now the problem isn't poor maintenance, the problem is the yeti is attached to the mountain's structure. I know someone who works at Everest. I have been told that Imagineers are up there frequently trying to figure out a way to fix this thing. The ride would have to go under an extensive refurb to get it up and running again. It's a serious mess up there.

According to @themeparkfan, the ride was running today with no lights or strobes on the Yeti, just pure darkness.

I actually almost missed the yeti when I went on it. If you're in the front, you really only have a half a second to see it, because the strobe doesn't start until you're practically underneath. If I didn't already know where it was, I would have missed it

The first time I ever rode EE, I was lucky and got the front row, and just got a glimpse of the thing.

The yeti may not be but there is plenty more wrong with the rides other effects that it used to have and now rarely does. The mass amount of steam as the train stops to load, the mist at the top of the cavern and the other waterfall that used to cascade down the mountain.

At 1:35 in this video, Joe Rohde explains how the ride was built. I thought this was pretty neat since it discusses how the Yeti was put in and it also explains the different structures.

I also found these as well. It is a 5 part series going into detail of the construction of EE. Cool stuff.

According to @natatomic, the Yeti will remain strobe-less for about the next two weeks or so. According to her, they're testing a couple of "fixes." Not A-mode, though. Something else.

I've also changed the thread title since the 5th birthday has come & gone but the discussion continues.

Yea, they've had "fixes" planned for a while now.

None of them sound spectacular though.

We should change the tagline to the website to "Orlando United...where we update you on Orlando's broken attractions"

I agree, nothing short of its original form should be acceptable.

The yeti did a song and it pretty much sums up my feelings.
