https://www.bizjournals.com/orlando/news/2025/07/10/universal-elon-musk-boring-company-tunnel.html

Rumors are breaking out that Universal is in talks right now to construct a new tunnel network, that would house transportation for International Drive via that of The Boring Company. It is unknown how far along these talks are, but they were reported on by Patrica Trolley first, on the OBJ.

Won’t happen. The water table in Florida is too high. The land literally cannot support it.

Never mind what the Vegas Boring tunnel project actually became… slower HOV lanes.

I have no doubt that this is something being considered, knowing some of the personalities that own businesses in the I-Drive area. That being said…this is the absolute most idiotic thing I think I have ever heard proposed for the area. Yes, even beating out the Poler Coaster complex turned Lionsgate complex concepts, and the iSquare Mall scheme. Just insane amounts of hubris and idiocy with this one.

Presenting my new revolutionary technology proposal to UOR. Please consult the video below.

I normally charge $25 million for my brilliant insight but for this incredible company I'll discount that to $20m.

From the link synopsis:
Orlando's tourism leaders are abuzz with rumors of a futuristic transportation project

Didn’t know cars in tunnels were futuristic.

If they were considering this I’m surprised they didn’t take a page out of Downtown Miami’s Metromover.

I fear it could be an instance where someone has too many dollars and not enough sense that would still try. If they did go through with it it’d be such a waste for little gain that could’ve been spent on improving the parks.

My gut thinks Boring initiated the conversation and Universal heard them, but they can’t objectively look at Vegas and decide, “we can use this.”

Josh Wallack is a source and quote for this, aka the Polercoaster guy. I put no weight in this.

not sure how it is going, but around '21 or '22 Ft Lauderdale entered into an agreement to build one around Las Olas (beach area) and they are much closer to sea level than this area so I do not think anyone cares about the water table level. I think these tunnels are bad ideas but I have limited knowledge on how well they work (save that the Vegas loop never seemed to become what it was promised to be) -- I have heard there is a new roller coaster/underground transport option coming soon to vegas that could be a cool idea for a transport/ride between south and north campus if something like that is feasible. (not sure if boring built the tunnel though).

They should just expand the hogwarts express and have it go to the other parks. Problem solved ;)

This assumes that there's actual discussion going on and not folks playing the rumor mill to increase the value of their assetts...

Hoping the talk is real in some capacity, the area can use it.

I don't think the solution is as complicated as boring tunnels, if even possible, as a simple light rail solution can alleviate a lot of issues.

I don’t know if there’s serious discussion, but I would easily believe it has been at least unofficially proposed/floated to the stated parties and there are certain parties that would want to milk it for even more. The worry for me is that I see the other major I-Drive players being quite comfortable cozying up to Musk for something they see as a marketable “luxury” option, so even if Universal dismisses it, it might get potential interest and momentum despite being the transit version of vaporware.

I think that might have been true a few years ago, but you’re not exactly getting a positive halo effect from associating with Elon Musk these days.

Yeah, regardless of if these talks actually happened or are going to lead to anything, publically associating with an Elon Musk company is a bad look for Universal.
