I'm not sure if that is entirely true. The reception seems to lean a lot more positive with the general public than within the theme park community.

The GA reception seems like: a slightly confused, somewhat tepid thumbs up (from what Ive seen online in non-theme park groups and some some irl testimonies). Kind of a, “Ah uh, okay, what’s the next ride?” Some (like my mother and wife) boderline hate it (wife sees it as poor man’s TS Mania and mother found it overwhelming and cluttered).

Ok that I can definitely agree with, if you’re not paying attention (which it’s really not drilled in your head to) you could be lost lol.

It could use better info in the videos before the ride. Really doesn't tell you much, especially if you're not a Nintendo gamer.

A slow-moving Mario Kart ride never made sense imo. They should've went with the classic "Mario saves Peach from Bowser" or a Super Mario Galaxy dark ride if they didn't have the space to build a proper Mario Kart ride (something closer to Test Track/RSR).

Ironically, it seems that Disney is about to build another ride that will be even closer to what most people were expecting from Mario Kart with the new Cars ride in Magic Kingdom.

Luigi’s Mansion should be gamified the same way and anyone who’s played the arcade game will agree with me on this. Reuse the tech from Mario Kart for AR ghosts but everything else is sets and animatronics.

I disagree with elements of this. We are in total agreement that the Luigi's Mansion arcade game, with its' unique controller and immersive haptic feedback when sucking in coins and ghosts is literally perfect for a theme park attraction and should be brought over 1 to 1.

However, that game itself already exists, and can be played for like, $5 at an arcade? I don't want to see digital versions of these characters in a Luigi's Mansion E-ticket Universal ride. Give me some practical effects, some well put-together vignettes and show scenes, an animatronic Luigi.

If they don't go that direction, I don't think it's too much to ask that the sets feel alive and full without the AR goggles. Throw in some interactable physical props. Make a side table rumble slightly if you point at it for a few seconds. A floating plate that spins faster if you try to suck it in. The absolute minimum is making it feel at least as engaging as the Cat in the Hat dark ride, which currently I don't think Mario Kart without gameplay / AR actually ends up that much better than.

A Luigi's Mansion ride, IMO, should be Universal's equivalent to Haunted Mansion. I know we have Unchained, but I mean as in a ride experience for anyone, with almost exclusively animatronics and Pepper's Ghost effects.

Also, please have it adapt at least some of the 1st game's more ambient/scary atmosphere, not just the more cartoonish style of the 2nd and 3rd game!

i always assumed a Luigi's Mansion ride would be using the Monster's Inc: Ride n Go Seek system where it's about shining a flashlight on lit-up sensors cause...
Awesome Season 3 GIF by The Lonely Island

I don't think the story should be that we have our own poltergust systems, but that we're helping Luigi catch them with his; All we're doing is stunning them for him to suck up. This way we get a ride chock-full of practical effects and animatronics that light up when active, their sensors get shot with a flashlight, and they dim upon being "caught" by Luigi (who is either shown in animatronic form or implied to be with us on the ride itself).

No AR, please. Give us an interactive Haunted Mansion full of practical effects like MiB.

I just assumed it would be the Pets ride system with the blasters and interactive screens tech of Villain Con.

The classic SMB story is found in the Key Challenges and Bowser Jr Challenge (it even ends with “finishing” the level and jumping up on the flag pole). That makes sense give the verbs in the game (jump, punch, run, etc). Mario Kart makes sense as a ride as that’s the verbs the game uses (race, shoot, etc). You ride on Yoshis in the game and also ride on Karts in DKC. It all makes sense through that lens and explains why there isn’t a Mario book report ride.

This is definitely the intent, but I find the execution to be sloppy (doesn’t help that a good chunk of the main “attraction” of the land is paywalled and you need the app to fully understand what is happening ). The land wants to act like a 1950s Disneyland style dark ride where we are the roleplaying as the protagonists, while also acting like a post 1994 Disney dark ride, where you are joining the characters on an adventure, or visiting their world.

I know most guests won’t care, but I personally find it really distracting. It makes MK even more isolating and “virtual” to me, and sort of ruins the immersion (particularly on my first visit).

I don’t see the issue or difference here. They put us into the games, we’re doing the things in the games no matter if we’re the Mario stand in or working with Mario.

This implies there's such a thing as a good Midway Mania!

It took Disney designing one of their worst attractions of all time -- WEB Slingers -- to make Midway Mania look good in comparison!

Idk, I know Midway Mania is just a bunch of 3D screens but it legitimately gets my blood pumping depending on who Im riding with. The gameplay is sssssssssssoooo fun and addictive, really wish they updated it though. MK doesnt give me the dopamine rush TS Mania gives me (it helps that TS Mania is way less isolating and more competitive).

TS Mania feels more like MK than the actual MK ride to me, ahaha. Its also quite the workout (if you’re going for the score), and its fun when the ride track spins and gives crazy whip.

But it really needs an update.

To me, Toy Story Mania is a pretty great game, but a rather underwhelming themed ride. The bulk of the experience is not too dissimilar to what you would find at home or at an arcade.

This is honestly the worst possible timeline imo, but also one of the more likely ones. They can do so, so much better than another version of their weakest simulator system.

I actually think that Flashlight system is one of the best ways to do it. Have the ride car be a big Poltergust vacuum and you are in charge of simply stunning the ghosts. That seems pretty easy to work with.

See, thats how I feel about MK despite it’s pretty good dark ride element. Since basically all of the action is within the headset, it ends up just feeling like another screen shooter to me despite the really cool usage of AR overlayed physical sets.

I think the difference for me is that I feel that TS Mania knows exactly what it wants to be, while MK feels at odd with itself (having ridden both a nauseating amount of times).

But I do give MK props for the ambition though. It certainly isn’t a lazy attempt, heavens no. I don’t get it when people call it lazy.

Why is this version of Mario Kart a team based race? When you usually play Mario Kart with friends, I'm throwing items at everybody. I think most riders don't make the distinction between "Team Mario" and "Team Bowser" and end up losing coins that way, which in turn makes the ride less fun when you get a noticeably low score.

I actually enjoyed the ride. Good but not great. But not being a Nintendo gamer, I had absolutely no idea what I was shooting/doing
or what the game was about. Even after multiple rides. Kind of random chaos to an outsider. If they do another expansion shooter
type ride, I hope its designedto be more non Nintendo familiar guest friendly. If not, I'd rather have an expansion in one of Epics
other lands. Minions Villains also had a very poor explanation preview. This appears to be a UC weakness that needs corrected....
.Maybe UC should assign an engineer who has absolutely no IP gamer knowledge to design a pre show guide that he and
guests can understand.....Keep it simple, key.
