As well, the larger the room the less scene variety they would be able to cram in thanks to the various lighting tricks and it would make it more likely you will see the riders in front of you, which breaks the illusion of being in the race.

I’m not so sure that would break the illusion. In Mario Kart, unless you’re really good and really lucky, you will typically have a few cars ahead of you. With all of the AR effects, any cars ahead would just naturally blend in.

As for scene variety, a lot of tracks are open and bright, including many of the ones they picked. Piranha Plant Slide, Twisted Mansion, Grumble Volcano, and Rainbow Road are the best looking areas in the ride. In the game, these locations are either darker or more closed off, just like they are in the attraction.

Cloudtop Cruise and what I assume is one of the Mario Circuits, look very off considering the wide open nature of the tracks in the games. Dolphin Shoals looks okay, but it gives me more of a”generic underwater“ vibe than the beauty of Dolphin Shoals in the game.

Still, 4/7 is pretty good.

I personally feel this is a disingenuous and purposefully inaccurate depiction of the argument being made by some posters.

Likely because you know it will score you easy likes while misrepresenting what is being said.

But you do you.

It’s extremely accurate. And if Uni had built a RSR-like ride with no interactivity, people would be complaining they couldn’t throw shells at opponents. Welcome to the internet where people are desperate to be unhappy about everything

I agree with Skip on that....and to add....as I've often said....I don't think theme park internet fans have a good read on what the General Public really likes or wants. If I were a Theme
Park Executive I would pay little heed to 'so called' uber fan reviews on twitter and the other type social media instruments. And, it seems that the mass of these people actually don't attend,
or rarely attend, Universal on a regular basis. They're mostly You Tube warriors that don't get off their couch very often.....The tip off to me is that they rarely have much knowledge of
what's in the parks, short of the rides they overly nitpick and criticize.

I think it’s okay to have nuanced feelings about this attraction without falling into one of two camps. I know that my thoughts on the attraction aren’t so black and white, and I am still trying to figure out a lot of my opinions. And, of course, I don’t believe any of us have ridden it, the “positive group” nor the “negative group”.

After all, I’m not looking to be unhappy, I’m just trying to start/sustain an intelligent discussion on a discussion board. I think some posts on both sides frustrate me because they invalidate the opinions of others and actively try to stop discussion. If we were, say, to all make the conclusion that this land is perfect, full stop, though I think it’s pretty dang close and better than most attraction lands created in the past ten years at capturing the true spirit of an IP, I guess I don’t see where the discussion is.

I think it’s fair to point out that a ride that takes place on a couch SEEMS to have more fast movements than a ride that features a sleek Go-Kart design. At the same time, I think it’s fair that if they’d built an RSR without shells, I might be peeved about the end result. For the record, part or RSR is the extensive slow-moving dark ride portion - I think there’s some way to have both, though we all know that there is no space in any current Universal park to do it.

But... I think the ride that we got looks fun! I would never say a ride is in my top five or my bottom five without having ridden it though, especially a ride with a heavy interactive aspect. If I were told to judge the VOID through a film, I would look at you as if you had two heads. It can’t be done. All you can judge is what you can see. There are still many other senses to take into account, and in this case not even sight or sound are particularly reliable.

Part of the dissention is people living in some fantasy world where the next Universal attraction is and "answer" or "one-up" to the previous Disney attraction or vice versa

Let's call it what it is, if you are expecting this to one-up Rise, then you may be disappointed.

If you are expecting Universal to continue making everything at the same thrill level of Spiderman or Mummy, then again, you may be disappointed.

It's fun to watch Universal flex their muscles a bit and stretch into this territory.

If this is what a Universal family dark ride looks like moving forward then count me in.

It’s inaccurate to the criticisms of myself and a few others on here, but it’s accurate to many of the criticisms I’ve seen in different social media platforms.

“It’s too slow” and “it should be a passive experience” are the two I see the most. The first one, I understand. I think it would have benefited from a bit more speed. Not TT/RSR outdoor speed (this is Mario Kart, not Forza). But maybe a similar speed to RSR indoors. Frantic pace, but not too much that the AR would make people sick. Of course, maybe they tried that and it did make people sick. There are multiple factors going into this that we really don’t know. I can’t agree with it being a passive experience though. It’s Mario Kart. It doesn’t need items.

The more I see from the ride, the more I am sold on the idea. The promotional art looks perfect, encapsulating a greater feel for the series, beyond just the Mario Kart games. They already sold me on the queue. The music is phenomenal. I really like that they preserved the Mario Vs. Bowser dynamic, although I wish they had gone into it a bit more for the ride itself. It feels a bit too neutral. Bowser’s a villain, he cheats. I like that he throws the bombs to unleash the Fishbone. I think it’s just one Giant Bowser animatronic short of nailing it, but I’ll relent on that one. They did do a good job, and I look forward to riding it.

The biggest "problem" is people had 6 years of rumors and daydreams running around their head about the ride. Nothing will ever live up to that. If Universal had announced SNW like 1/2 their other attractions when it was 1/2-3/4 built and explained what the ride was at announcement, everyone would be celebrating.

I was hoping it would at least match Rise. My cousin just took her 4 year old on it so a family ride is certainly able to have a bit more “oomf.”

Guess we gotta wait until maybe Zelda for that? Hopefully?

I personally don’t think anyone is upset that they built a slower ride, we all agree they need more.

People are disappointed because this ride doesn’t fully capture what Mario Kart is all about.

I think this is compounded by the fact they recently took another car focused franchise and built a slow attraction (in the not too distant past) that did not meet fans expectations of what a ride on that IP would feel like.

I’m not saying I think either side are correct, but I understand the opinion they have. Perhaps they’d have been better off not calling it Mario Kart, and making it more of a Mario adventure?

People complaining about a ride about a video game being like a video game.

We all knew this would be an interactive game/shooter for a long time now. It's the whole concept of the land.

Next up...i can't believe the Donkey Kong Kids Coaster is a Kids Coaster.

The irony of this statement, because 98% of these opinions are based on a video that doesn't fully capture what the Mario Kart ride is all about.

Not trying to start anything, but if you really think about it, it's not much of a stretch to name Mario Kart Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

Also when has there ever been a ride that “fully captures” what an IP is?

What the hell do you people want from UC? Test Track's budget alone was $300,000,000 and it's a HUGE footprint with only the last stretch of the ride going really fast, and this whole land was $450,000,000. Some of yall, want an MK test track that's going fast the entire time, is indoors, has animatronics, and still being able to throw shells? Just be happy with what you got. Just remember that in a parallel universe, the Mario Kart attraction was like F&F: Supercharged.
