I guess I’m the only one who likes details over speed anymore. I’ve been in it 6 times

Each room has a secret or two to discover, it’s super interactive and very fun to ride

One If my friends did wish it was Like Cars Racers but that amount of land would mean like 2-3 less rides in the future-because of space
Along with pretty much anyone can ride this ride, it’s an E ticket dark ride with game elements
DK and FF are coming and other parks have plenty of unquote coasters if you have the need for speed, they are not rare from sea World to great America

Earlier today I saw on twitter that the upstairs icy area was closed off, so maybe Universal is already working on adding more interactive experiences to the land. That area definitely felt kind of bare, so hopefully they can add the Ice Fireball goomba game or even the musical block rocks:

I'm honestly not that surprised. Feedback I've overheard from folks in the land or who have gone have said that they were disappointed how "slow" it was. Even the people who were anxiously awaiting a POV were disappointed how slow MK once they saw Japan's POV. When I was talking to some of my non-theme park savy friends, they were hoping the ride would be something like RSR and were a little puzzled as to why it wasn't "fast". Even if they were to make it a RSR kind of ride, there is no way they would've been able to effectively pull off the interactive aspect of it. Maybe it's because I figured it would be more of a dark ride than a "fast" ride when we were waiting for Japan's to finish building their ride, but I do think the choice of making it our "answer to MIB" was the best possible choice for the ride.

I will say that I feel like the criticism of MK not being "fast enough" could easily be negated by simply jazzing up the motion profiles a little bit. I think simply making the drifting and spinning turn just a little bit snappier (at about MIB level of intensity) would go a long way. I think the spinning and motion is as soft as it is as they were concerned about people getting sick. It sounds like the main issue should be making it feel "fast".

Wonder if it's just a last second thing there waiting to get to or already accounting for some guest feedback. I just also hope they add more options/QOL to power up band progress management, because as I mentioned earlier, the data being tied to the bands and not your account/phone sounds like really bad news if you were to lose it or anything like that, especially if some poor un-savvy person loses theirs on like say, Jurassic World's final drop, Mummy, or Forbidden Journey.

I think a blurb/option saying something like "Sign in to your Universal account to save your progress to your phone" could go a long way.

Ditto, I was thinking a touch-up to the motion might help sell the feeling of going fast better while still retaining interactivity.

I’ve been on it a few times and noticed almost everyone that gets off/waiting to unload, didn’t seem too thrilled. They had that underwhelmed look or the “that’s it?” appearance. On re-rides it feel likes I’m forcing myself to like this ride after following the construction for so long and being hyped for Universal’s recent competitiveness against Disney. Don’t get me wrong, the tech is neat but at the end of every ride, I’m wishing there was more to it.

That makes sense. Chris I’m not sure if it was you, but didn’t someone say there was a delay in some of the interactive components?

Yeah a lot of what was supposed to be in production eventually just got cancelled or speculatively pushed back. Im hoping we get more interactive components.

For the GP, can't say I'm surprised. When you hear the name "Mario Kart" and it races, the only other ride GP would compare it to would be Radiator Springs Racers. So that's the expectation. And If I were expecting that sort of experience, I'd be disappointed too. The vast majority of the GP don't do the research, and have no idea what kind of ride it is. And there's also no indication from the outside what sort of ride it'll be.

Maybe they should change the name of the ride, or add a sub title that mentions or implies it's more of a shooting ride?

I mean that’s on the Gp to look up the land or ask a friend

who travels across country and does zero research or your kid doesn’t look it up before?

In my experience - just about every theme park visitor at Disney & Universal.
Universal has for years had to add 'the ride' to attraction names because people don't realise thats what it is without being told.

I don’t understand why you’d spend thousands of dollars and not look up basic info or ask friends

like in a few years I’m traveling to Japan, I’d be an idiot just to show up with zero planning

to each their own but it’s your own fault for not looking up reviews/video’s because they are common for this land

I mean the MK ride has been getting negative reception since it opened in Japan befire most people rode it

as someone who knows Nintendo, I knew day one it would be a dark ride because they want games kids and parents can both enjoy with a few exceptions.

also if the ride was Luke web slingers or buzz I’d get it. This is an e ticket dark ride that literally lets you see 8ish Mario kart courses in 3D with great details and great looking anamatorics. Along with the game being fun, there are hidden question boxes to find and one other secret if not more in each area.

could it have been like cars racers? Sure but then less kids and older people get to ride it, the land is based on interactions and would be harder to implement, and most Universal parks just don’t have the land to add another coaster (especially if it’s not going to be a big thrill) and here at USH since we didn’t get a Yoshi ride that didn’t really help, so MK was trying to please everyone and honestly think it does. I highly doubt most people won’t go or recommend it because it’s not a coaster they will warn people to set fair expectations.
Plus we are getting two great coasters soon…I really don’t understand the why every ride must be a coaster

go to other parks or wait 3 years if thrills are all you care about, they are not hard to find in Southern California

People on the internets decide LONG before it's even built if something is good or not :D

Because I think the average person doesn't research parks. They go to have a good time and not think. At Disney, you were trained to not be sarcastic when people asked cast members things like, "What time is the 2 o'clock parade?" Or people who think "Harry Potter land" is at the Magic Kingdom. Heck, I know a lot of people who are surprised to hear there's more than one Six Flags park. And that sort of thing happens all the time.

I mean, even the New York Times doesn't do the research, as seen below.

Then you have zero reasons to be upset

If you want to go in blind then cool but it would like be going to see Last of Us blind and not getting why its not a cartoon about saving a princess. How the hell is it the products fault when you couldn't even do a google or YT search. Just weird to me you you'd be emotionally invested enough to be upset when the ride is not what you want...when you couldn't spend 5 mins online or talking to someone who went.

MY family I guess is different, anytime they go to a theme park they call or text me and I give them all the advice I can, my cousins just went to Disneyland with there kids and told me how wonderful all my tips were.....so I dont know what to tell people.

Anyway, I've posted pics from the land and my friends that have talked/seen my pictures really want to go so maybe some will be disappointed but most seem excited once I explain the ride/amazing Q, the games and boss battle.

I learned at an early age, at the NYWF, if you didn't plan and knew where and what stuff was, you'd end up wandering and miss the good stuff. So years later, when we went to Disneyland (from NJ) we actually had a guidebook before we even left so we knew what was what, where it was, and the best way to navigate around the park :)

I think you are under the impression that people go to ride one ride only. People go for vacations or whatever their reason being, it's probably not for one specific ride. Not everyone watches POV's. Some people don't need to, some just want to be surprised. There's going to be people who go to USH to ride HP, and just happen to ride MK cause it's there.

And even after all of that, if you watch a POV and know what to expect, there's nothing wrong with getting off a ride and saying "well that sucked".

I mean to each Their bit of your doing that on MK, take the googles off. It’s a very good ride and no one should be upset when mummy or Indy have less then half the effects working but people still love them or ride space and it’s literally a dark room with a disco ball

This is really accurate -- I know someone who went with her boyfriend last year, excited about Wizarding World. They spent the entire day at the park, and then when we hung out, I asked her what she thought of Jurassic World. She said, "There's a Jurassic World ride there?" Turns out they somehow didn't realize the Lower Lot was even a thing, which, again, I personally can't even fathom, but how you spent an entire day there without ever discovering that JW, Mummy, and Transformers exist is truly and utterly bizarre to me. And to your point, they just happened to ride Secret Life of Pets because it was there, too, and if it had been on the Lower Lot, they never would've given it a single thought.

I swear, I've even heard people in the park - both during the day and at HHN - go, "They have Harry Potter stuff here!?" while looking at a map while walking in or looking at the first wait time board or whatever, so even what's arguably "the big draw" somehow still goes under some people's radar.
