I think if fast and furious has a good track record of not breaking down then I see them being confident to replace the mummy

My question is what kind of service life do they expect out of the attraction? Premier has been building coasters since the late 90s and the vast majority of them are still up and running at parks with, uh, not as sterling a reputation for maintenance and upkeep. If it's still running and still drawing crowds, I wouldn't mess with a good thing.

Would you guys consider this an e-ticket? I kinda would, or at least e-ticket lite. If they got rid of it, I would hope it be replaced with something on a similar scale. Another thrill ride. A modernized coaster with a fresher IP (or just an original idea) would be ideal, imo.

I would say it fits as a B-tier ride. A tier is Forbidden Journey, Jurassic World, Fast and the Furious, Mario Kart, and the studio tour. B is Mummy, Transformers, and Secret Life of Pets, and C is Minions, Simpsons, and The Harry Potter Coaster. And the only D-tier ride is the Minion's spinner

I actually don't know the answer to this, but has the Hollywood Mummy gone under the knife for an extended refurbishment in the last ten years? Most coasters have expected service lives of approximately 20 years when they're run year-round, but those indoors tend to last a bit longer since they aren't exposed to the elements. It's unclear to me if ROTM West is still running on its original, mid-aughts computer equipment, or if it at some point was overhauled to a new ride/show control system.

If it's using relatively modern equipment and they've patched the tracks over the years, I could see them getting this to 30 years (though again, not an expert). If it's still running the old tech...

I do think the ambitions of tying the attraction into the would-be Dark Universe film franchise played a large role in saving it the last time it was on the chopping block.

-The ride is clearly aging with its mid ‘00’s tech
-USH finally has a “real” coaster now
-The ride looks out-of-place considering its plan to have themed areas.
-The four smaller sound stages behind it are slated for park expansion and the Mummy is in the way.

I seriously doubt this ride will be renewed for another 20 years even with the new movie coming out. I personally don’t think it fits with the longterm plans for the future of the park.

Darkmoore with an indoor coaster version of Monsters Unchained would be a solid replacement in my book. You can even sneak the Mummy in there in some way!

A version of Darkmore with an indoor coaster, a small street with a restaurant, and a show replacing Mummy and the soundstages would be a massive win for this park. The only thing is how they would connect it to the rest of the lower lot. If I had to guess, an entrance next to Transformers, an entrance at Jurassic World, and a double-sided set of buildings, like the ones at The Simpsons and Harry Potter, to separate the two areas would be what they would go with.

It wouldn't surprise me if they'd wait and see how the new Mummy sequel does; if it does gangbusters (which I'm sure it will, the nostalgia is absolutely there), I can definitely see them reinvesting into the ride in some way to extend its life, but if it underperforms/disappoints, the scythe will probably lower sooner than later.

I'm more on the side of mummy going to allow access to an expanded lower lot. If USH does try again with a mid tier coaster, it will probably if the gain access to falls lake for theme park expansion.

The new Mummy movie in 2028 is our ONE chance to get a refurb of that final room, maybe we'll get some new projections matching whatever happens in the new movie. One can hope.

I feel like there is a solution to Lower Lot that perhaps, say, allows Revenge of The Mummy to be replaced by a more modern equivalent, while allowing the park to expand in the process without even touching Revenge of The Mummy.

Would be interesting to see them lean to a idea of making "Nooks" that define specific areas of the Lower Lot, like how Jurassic World has it's nook.

As we've seen with FFN, its not to hard to enter the backlot even with Mummy in place. A mummy spiritual successor paired with a mini land could work, unless Universal wants an entirely new land in that acreage that would involve razing Mummy.

I’m totally onboard with replacing the Mummy with something far more modern (Like Uncharted at Port Adventura and the upcoming Londomonium at Parc Asterix). As a matter of fact, I think they should get on that after F&F opens! I just don’t see scenario where they’re keeping the Mummy building. But since I’m procrastinating now, I’ll bite. Let’s entertain both scenarios where the Mummy building stays.

Gutting the Mummy building again for a new coaster makes no sense for the park’s longterm vision, especially since we know they are eyeing the smaller sound stages behind the ride for expansion. Even if you do keep the Mummy building and used the sound stages behind them just for a standalone ride or a mini land…that’s not a lot of space to work with at all. At minimum you would need a restroom, an eatery, and a gift shop and then the ride itself. Not to mention it would be pretty awkward and cramped to get back there. Doable for FFN and HHN? Absolutely. Would it work for a more permanent pathway for normal ops? Not doable at all.

The other option would be to create a separate mini land in front of the Mummy and then use the building for whatever that IP calls for. That space is so small there would literally be no point in doing that. You would have to theme the Mummy replacement to Jurassic World because there is no way you can sell another IP being in that “nook” where the Mummy is. If you were to have the have a JW-themed indoor coaster in the Mummy building, would you want another ride that involves dark woods and animatronic dinosaurs? It would literally just be JW River Adventure but on a roller coaster. I wouldn’t hate it, but at a park where space is at a premium, I would prefer something different (Ahem, UNIVERSAL MONSTERS). Not to mention, they would be stuck to the confines of the building.

This post is already getting long, but the only way forward is to go scorched earth on the Mummy building and the outdated food service stands that are right up against it. Combined with that and the sound stages right behind it, you have a very healthy amount of space to play with. That’s enough space to widen the path to Transformers a little bit, to add restrooms, a small plaza, and a new land with a new indoor coaster. Yeah it would suck in the short term with how crowded it gets but it will do wonders for the lower lot in the long term. That breathing room would come into clutch so hard for HHN and Summer.

So yeah, once the Mummy’s time comes, start over from scratch and do the indoor coaster right this time. This ain’t 2003 USH anymore.

I say this with love, but Hollywood's Revenge of the Mummy feels like a solid effort from a regional park, not a world-class theme park.

When it debuted, it featured some pretty cutting-edge technology (indoor coaster launch, backward coaster section, guest-facing turntable, custom projected media, dropping mummy figures). Now, over 20 years later, most of that tech is old hat. The charm emerges from the attraction's more bizarre qualities, not necessarily its intended merits -- again, quite like a regional attraction. Nostalgia's pretty powerful, so I'm fine with it staying in the lineup in the short term, but long-term, it's served its purpose and then some.
