Not to stray to far off topic but here’s a couple of ideas to bring more entertainment to CityWalk:

1) Escape rooms! Kinda surprised why they don’t seem too keen on doing this yet. It would be easy money for them. Hope they bring those Escape Rooms from Florida over here.

2) Arcades. There’s a cool arcade place in Pasadena where you pay to play there per hour and you have access to as many arcade games as you want. Make it a bar as well and I think you would have a hit here. Sounds perfect for CityWalk.

3) Bring back the bowling alley. Did some bowling with friends at Disney Springs when I went with some friends and it was great!

4) Mini golf. It would probably have to be indoors but something like this could work.

Of course the corporation who owns the land wants their own hotel. I'm not arguing that this is a bad business decision, they want part of the pie that's fine. I just don't think this hotel appeals to the masses due to the price and tourism habits. Like I said already, I don't think it'll go under or anything, I just don't think it'll be some crazy success like Cabana Bay or something. I'm literally not saying "DON'T BUILD ITTTT".....

This is USH making the jump from "Regional Park" to "Destination Resort". They will be able to help fill rooms with AP discounts and perks.

What activities does CityWalk have other than movies?

I don't think this park can really be a true destination resort personally without really eating into the movie studio, but sure yeah it can be closer to it. I do wonder how AP's will interact with it since the base seems to be more local versus Disneyland or Universal Orlando. I will admit for HHN it would be useful if you wanted to splurge and not drive if you wanted to be inebriated.

Hotels offer more than just a place to crash for the night. They usually have at least one restaurant and a bar.

As a local, I never stay at SoCal resort hotels but have enjoyed their other amenities.
  • Bricks Family Restaurant, checking out the disco elevators, play area near the lobby at Legoland CA Hotel
  • Storytellers Cafe at the Grand Californian
  • Goofy's Kitchen, Steakhouse 55 (RIP) at the Disneyland Hotel (still need to do Trader Sam's)
  • Cafe Sierra's seafood buffet and champagne brunches at the Universal Hilton
Just because you'll never stay there doesn't mean you can't benefit from it.

Hotels can also host weddings/receptions. Universal Hilton makes so much money off lavish Asian 10-course wedding receptions. I've been to 3 wedding receptions there. They're one of the few hotels in SoCal that offer that style of wedding receptions. I'm sure USH would like a piece of that pie. I'm also sure some theme park fans would love to have their wedding at a Universal-owned hotel.

Universal Hollywood used to get a ton of foreign tourists before the pandemic, especially from Asia. This hotel will come in handy for them.

There's enough hotels everywhere and those people will be seeing more than just USH, it's not like this is filling a huge need. Like sure it can be built and will be used, but let's not act like this is some huge game changer for consumer accommodations in the area, it's gonna be expensive.

Don't you got a drone in Orlando to fly?

But anyways really tell me as a consumer, if you bought early access and stayed at the hilton today, what major impactful difference are you getting besides not having express (if that even does come with this), a character breakfast, and being able to charge/send things to your room (today the park does offer a holding service, but I'll give this as a connivence)? And to clarify, I say this in response to the sentiment that this is some crazy game changing thing in on-property accommodation experience for the consumer, not to argue why people would stay at hilton over the universal hotel.

Metro isn’t that great at connecting to everywhere efficiently or at all, as much as I would love it to be. It is easy to get to Hollywood to and from there though. Also if Metro can shake off the image of being unsafe, I would say that hold more weight in being a driving sell for tourists staying directly right in Universal if you take the tram down or do the hill walk (either way this does take some time).

Side note it would be a dream if LAX was more connected via Metro

Activities for CityWalk is something USH really needs to improve upon. And hopefully with a hotel comes expanded CityWalk hours. No more of the 8 or 9pm closing time.

CityWalk Hollywood needs something to draw the crowd in. Not sure what that would be, but it pales in comparison to Orlando. The 9pm close doesn’t help at all

Because people will. Same reason people buy Oreos instead of "Chocolate Creme Cookie Sandwiches". Same reason why Disney and Universal offer different levels of amenities with Value or Deluxe. It all is depending on what you want your vacation to be. People will pay to be "officially on property".

Yes I have said this in prior messages, brand loyalty. I’m responding to the sentiment that this is an extremely new/novel experience that doesn’t exist today as I said at the end of that rant, not why people would choose which one over the other (and I added that disclaimer cause I knew someone would think I’m trying to say that).

I mean, brand loyalty is a thing. Why do we need to ignore it?

Universal would offer vacation packages and exclusive perks all while staying "on-site" to provide a connected, rounded "Universal" experience for the guest, which also helps Universal's bottom line in comparison to now...

this is a straw man.

it's perfectly fine for you to not think this is a game changer for the resort! I don't think most anyone here thinks it will be either, but you've made your feelings clear. I don't know why you keep trying to argue with people about this lmao.

I’m just responding to being misunderstood on what I’m saying. People thought I was thinking they can’t multi-task, thought I only want a bunch of rides only, thought I was arguing for the Hilton over the Universal hotel, etc.

I just merely think this isn’t extremely novel to what exists and that it’s not this wide appeal hotel that will be slammed booked all the time or is extremely practical for an overall LA trip, that’s all.

If you go on the website today they do bundle these current on property hotels with a package that is similar to the Orlando set up for that (not as good of course for consumers and Universal’s pockets). Yes I know the new hotel will be a bit of better version of a package, again I was just responding to the sentiment that this is completely novel to the consumer who would want to stay as close as humanly possible to the park to warrant a “finallllly” response across social media.

We'll there has to be at least a few places that cater to adults or a more adult aimed crowd at the very least. Even Disney Springs sort of has this in a few places. At a resort as large as WDW and UOR, you have to have places for people to drink and socialize, but I don't think they want too many of them.

Most of CityWalk is sitdown restaurants, not a ton of bars are easy to find like in Disney Springs for instance where they're around every corner, so of course Red Coconut is going to do well if it's advertised and it's one of the only places left to sort of just walk up and drink along with the DJs they have in there, although I mostly see people sitting in there.

IDK if anyone is saying it's a novel idea, just that it's a step of growth for the park. The 'finalllllly' may have to do with the fact that it was planned/announced 11 years ago and fans have been waiting.

It also doesn't have to be "slammed booked" to be successful.

extremely practical for an overall LA trip

Again, depends on the person. For you, maybe not. For someone that wants to visit USH from out of state... probably, yea.

If Universal is the focus and they want to spend the extra money for it to get all the bells and whistles, for sure 100%. I just don’t think general Olympic or “I wanna see LA” focused tourism fits under that completely but that’s beside the point.

Not exactly sure what we’re fighting against on here, but adding an on-hotel would be a win for everyone. It would incentivize the park to expand, out-of-towners can stay at the park if they want to visit HHN, they can probably increase HHN’s budget and capacity pushing hotel packages….to quite Professor Hulk, “I see this as an absolute WIN!”

I mean I can understand being apathetic about it if you live close, but this will incentivize the park to expand and add more rides. Isn’t that what we want?

I think some of us are worried that building a hotel will eat into that expansion budget, but if anything I think this would increase it.

As a reminder - park attraction money isn't being spent on this. Just like how new DVC isn't taking away from new attractions at DLR or WDW.

I mean, I do that already with the Hilton. If Universal adds a hotel, I'll do the same with them.
