While this is really great to see, it sucks to subsequently find out that the other games Bethesda announced this morning are gonna be a code in a box. I guess they only decided to put their best game on cart since Microsoft is probably still pumping a bunch of money into AI :/

No freaking way man. I thought for sure this would be a game key card since it wasn’t even on the Xbox or PS5 discs! This is amazing!!! The other Bethesda games don’t bother me because I’m not getting them lol.

It is confirmed that the game will not have online functionality, battling and trading will be limited to local wireless. The game will have Pokémon Home support though, which allows for online trading and transferring to other games.

Meh. I’ve got FireRed on my Steam Deck with a mod that lets you obtain all the Pokémon between both versions without having to trade along with other things added.

So to follow up on this earlier news, insiders have been coming out saying that these smaller cartridges are indeed gonna be a thing. How much this curbs GKCs remains to be seen.

I wanna have hope we could eventually get non GKC reissues of games, because supposedly there were Switch 1 games that did start out as Code In a Box before getting cartridge releases (having trouble finding which ones though), but unfortunately vice versa with Octopath Traveler, Nier Automata, and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.

Also, I think it's possible that this is another avenue of technology that AI has been f-ing up, considering RAM prices, GPUs and other stuff I'm probably missing have been getting messed up by AI. :x

I forgot to share a small update on this, but there is at least another score on more proper physicals following this news. This was a game that got announced in a previous direct, mind you.

I tried it last night playing Diablo 2 and didn't see any difference. Which by the way, if you told 10 year old me that I could play this in bed via handheld later in life, I would have lost my mind. This is quickly becoming my most played Switch/2 game and I haven't even started a Warlock yet.

Anyways, back to the update... I have about two chapters left in Alan Wake, which is a pretty blurry port as it is. I bet that would benefit greatly from this update. Might give me a nudge to jump back in to finish that one. Other than that though, I can't think of any original Switch games that just didn't look good in handheld mode on 2? I know people were complaining about that before, but it just isn't something I've encountered.

I can imagine the Switch versions of Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal looking better played in handheld vs. blown up on a 4K TV with this setting turned on. A lot of concessions were made for those games and Switch games that didn’t get an update for the Switch 2 already get a bit of a blur to them on a 4K TV. I noticed it recently when playing Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe.
