New Tomorrowland Rumored for DL

That’s really not my understanding of what’s happening. Eastern Gateway needs to be done before Avatar happens and the fact is we’re still a ways away from that project being completed.

Of course, I get that we’re now at a point with this project that we’ve gotta see vertical construction for people to believe it’s actually happening. But my understanding is that it is very much in the medium to long term plan for DCA.

If Avatar was originally slated for 2029, maybe the new TL takes that slot while Avatar slips to 2030 or 2031 the latter date is when the final movie comes out. Then 2032 beyond is anything DLForward related.

This was the shock announcement of the event for me. I didn’t think they would actually do it! On top of that, prioritized over Avatar? Is it my birthday?? (Funny enough it’s coming up!)

But seriously, it’s great they’re finally doing it. I do hope that the refresh will be VERY extensive. They didn’t confirm anything but the vibe I kinda got was that they will lean into the retro-future theme.

I’m gonna be real, I don’t think this will be quite as extensive as everyone wants this to be. Everyone is hoping for Scorched earth, but let’s be real: that is not happening. At least, that’s not the vibe I get from this.

I think this will entail PM coming back, Astro Orbiter/Rocket Jets going back on top, and maybe a retheme of ST and Buzz. Maybe they’ll bring back Carousel of Progress.

They know people want PM back and Rocket Jets going back up. Why go above and beyond?

Part of me doubts the whole thing is going to be leveled. I do forsee a space mountain redo on par with Tokyo. Other than that, I can comment further.

But I do wonder how further back this will push Avatar. Perhaps they will have construction crews on them in unison.

I would LOOOVE to see Tokyo’s Space replace ours, but I don’t think that’s happening. The purists who don’t want to see any change would riot over it. I think this redo will be very modest.

A revised guess I have is something that reskins or replaces the subs, and a new dark ride that replaces Astro Blasters.

I mean, that sounds pretty extensive to me. You’re talking about every almost every ride in TL there.

My theory is that the south side (Star Tours & Space Mountain Side) is going to largely remain untouched besides exterior changes to fit the new vibe. I think Buzz is overdue for a re-theme and Launch Bay, Autopia, and the Subs are ripe for a total knockdown and replacement. Would also let them build in room for a Matterhorn redo if that is in the cards for later.

As far as nostalgia goes....I'd love to see the original (but updated final scene) COP and a new People Mover return. Disneyland fans would freak!

I think it's time for them to come up with a plan for Autopia and the subs. This is a huge area that needs a well thought out multi-step project. Can they do it in time for the 75th?

I'm fully expecting this to be the People Mover, Carousel of Progress, a Star Tours retheme, and MAYBE a new flat ride, plus updates to the Space Mountain queue and a new restaurant. That alone would be a massive upgrade.

See that’s not the coaster that I thknk goes under. Modern Space is still 21 years old and is relatively modern—it doesn’t need a major retracking and would better serve to get refurbished with modern lighting.

The big problem is arguably Matterhorn in my opinion. And that I wonder if they take this as a opportunity to finally tackle redoing it from the ground up.

Autopia and sub lagoon area is about 8.5 acres. I would use half of that for another Tomorrowland E-ticket (coaster?) and the other half to expand Fantasyland (Frozen, BATB).

it is specifically for fans. stockholders do not care about this no-details announcement about something that will happen at least three years (and more likely five years) down the pipe. it's just a tease! i'd also like to hear more details, but for at least 48 hours i'm happy to hear they've gotten something green lit at all.
